  1. In the spirit of his separatist beliefs, may he be separated from Rideau Hall as soon as possible. The ingrate leaves a stain on the place and his wife too.

  2. Maybe Lafond is trying to gloss up his separatist credentials in anticipation of getting back with his “Vive Quebec Libre” pals when his gig in public housing ends.

  3. Remember, with Adrienne Clarkson, she of the famed “I’m Adrienne Clarkson. And you are not” image..there was her leftist sophist husband, John Ralston Saul, with his pontificating bafflegab books on whatever.

  4. The Queen should have said that General James Wolfe is on the phone and this time he’s coming in a Destroyer.

  5. Pretty unequivocal denial, including calling the remarks insulting. It wasnt a non denial type of denial.
But I agree with him, the remarks attributed to him are insulting.

  6. Why such a flip-flop, folks?
I thought you were all in favour of small government and everyone footing their own bills?
Now all of a sudden you all are royalists.
What’s conservative left about you now? Smoking and trucks, what else?
However after more thinking, it does not matter where she would be staying. Perhaps it’s even cheaper for the taxpayers at Rideau Hall, because we are paying for it anyway.

  7. The last thing I want to do is defend the Separatist Lafond. However, this appears to be a hatchet job by David Akin. I thought we were going to start getting political reporting done differently with the new Sun TV News channel. I know its not in existence yet but if this is how Akin is going to continue reporting then I won’t be watching Sun TV News. This thing of annonymous sources and people speaking off the record has got to stop. Either they let their name stand or it is not worth reporting. Once the media makes this clear those with a pure political agenda will be less willing to come forward.

  8. Beer Aaron. Beer. And popcorn.
But still, the spectacle of the GG’s husband suggesting the Queen stay at a hotel? Let’s just say you don’t have to be a Royalist to find that objectionable.
That’s like a visitor’s husband suggesting you stay at a hotel instead of at YOUR house. Because by law and custom, Rideau Hall is the Queen’s house.
Screw ’em. She can stay at my house.

  9. If this is true it is disgusting, but what else would you expect from a leftist.
BTW, I hope she lives long enough so that a grandchild get the monarchy, as I would become an anti-monarchist overnight if Chucky gets the royal nod. Eco wing-nut that he is. I’m all for producing products in a clean manner.

  10. > Aaron, you are getting to be tedious, move on.
    I recognize a freespeecher talking!

  11. Whether the comments are genuine or not (and I sure hope not), it’s true that a a representative of the Left lives at Rideau Hall. Not only is Lafon a Leftist, he also wants Quebec to separate from Canada.
How ironic that Lafond gets to live in a mansion and live the life of Riley all on the Canadian taxpayers’ dime. He doesn’t seem to object to his lifestyle.
He’s one of the major reasons I’m not enamoured of Michaelle Jean’s tenure as our Governor General. Her husband’s a traitor to Canada.

  12. Aaron it’s not ok to presume that all of the right wing supporters in Canada are royalist supporters, I doubt very much that SDA prefers it’s readers/commenting fools to all be cut from the same cloth, and that in good measure is what brings many of us here.
    Remember freedom.
I do think it shows poor manners on behalf of the GG’s husband, if this is factual. … having read that Mr. Lafond disputes it.
    marc in calgary, Republican/republican.

  13. > Aaron it’s not ok to presume that all of the right wing supporters in Canada are royalist supporters,
    Here comes another one:
    > Lafond is also a traitor to the Crown.
I don’t know and don’t care who Lafond is and what’s his background and affiliations. It’s the idea that the queen should pay her own bills that resonates with me.

  14. This little beer guy is getting his 15 min. Of fame for his Quebec buddies . Just so he can say he’s counted coup on the Queen. What a pathetic Jackass. Like being an Assmoleian is something to brag about?
Anyway hes only a prop, hiding behind his wifes dress.
This is so indicative of the moral & social stupidity of the times.
    Concubines should know their place.
I don’t even care about the English Queen.
A little respect though goes a long way.

  15. If Lafond objects to the notion of Monarchy then he should have declined his quasi-official status as the GG’s spouse.
    Phantom @2:03 – I read Voltaire’s Bastards, and I wouldn’t really recommend it.

  16. “It’s the idea that the queen should pay her own bills that resonates with me.”
Should Steven Harper pay his own bills?
“Ok, Mr. Harper, you’ll have to pay your own travel and accommodation expenses for all official duties.”

  17. > Should Steven Harper pay his own bills?
If you genuinely feel you’ve cornered me with this question, you have to play again.
The answer is no, those who elected Harper should pay his bills. And we are, however outlandish they sometimes are.

  18. Aaron – until we, the people, decide to do away with the monarchy, then when we, the people, invite the monarch to visit us – we pay the bills.
What’s your point with your definition of conservatives as ‘smoking, trucks and guns’.
And conservative does not mean just small govt and ‘everyone footing their own bills’.
There IS a role for commonality within the conservative mindset – that is, there IS an acknowledgment that we are not just individuals but also live within a community. Therefore, we want some communal services – whether it be police, fire, roads, hospitals, schools.
Therefore we don’t just pay our own bills; we pool our money to provide a common service which we might not even make much use of.
Your rejection of the monarchy is your personal opinion; however, again, until the Canadian people choose to reject it – when we invite the monarch here to perform various duties for us, then we pay the bills. It’s called principled behaviour.

  19. Well-said, ET.
Welcoming the Queen is also called hospitality, an “old fashioned” virtue that seems unfamiliar to a great swath of our population.

  20. Lafond is a Separatist turd. If these statements attributed to him are accurate than he’s a hypocrite too. Respect for Canada’s history and traditions is not something that one would expect from a Separatist sympathizer, and cheerleader. Just as one wouldn’t expect respect for Canada’s history and traditions from Marxists, Communists, and tribalists. Those ideologies are all about destroying, denying, dividing, and distorting history and tradition to the point of meaninglessness.

  21. With all due respect, Aaron appears to have dun lost his mind.
Just because someone doesn’t agree with you (Aaron) doesn’t mean they are whatever name or insult you throw at them. You could very well be correct, or wrong in you assessment of this issue. It’s subjective, we all have an opinion. What’s odd with you, is you’ve for some reason anointed yourself the judge of what the correct thing to think is, and also the labeller of the person you’ve deemed wrong. You’re starting to remind me of Hardboiled.
You opinions are usually well though-out IMO, but your haughty views of your own opinion is something to witness. Furthermore, you seem to have a lot more vitriol towards those whom you disagree with than say a year ago, unless of course you’re not the same Aaron I’m thinking of.
Regarding the Queen; there’s a lady that deserves respect.

  22. I vote Harper and hope very much that we sever our ties from the UK. There’s absolutely no point to having this old bag running around giving her boring and completely predictable speeches here. It means nothing and wastes taxpayer dollars, whether its through the GG or these latest tours.

  23. Aaron .. free to speak you are…. free to be mocked for assinine speach as well …!
The point is … knob breath … that by law and tradition the effin house in question is QE the Second’s to use any time she sees fit.

  24. lopal – might I say the same about you?
The point of a monarchy is as a symbol. This symbol represents the continuity of identity of the nation. The US has its Constitution and Flag; these represent its continuity and identity – for both were developed as a deliberate act of self-identification.
Canada did not develop in an act a separate self-identification – and please don’t suggest that Trudeau’s Charter identifies Canada. Canada developed over time; and took most of its legal system, parliamentary system etc from its origins as a colony of Britain. It identifies this continuity (parliament, legal, social) via the symbol of a monarchy.
We may well decide to establish some other type of symbol of our identity, but that decision is up to the people of Canada, and must be made by the use of reason – not the hostile emotion as expressed in your post.

  25. I would like to point out that Redeau Hall the site of the head of Canada, is populated by a seperatist and a foriegn national and visited by another.
What the hell does this say about Canada.
    IH @7.31
As a person I admire QEII but what has she actually done to deserve respect?

  26. Aaron may be someone who has just completed his freshman year in university (with its exposure to left-wing profs) and doesn’t have a summer job. So he has all this lefty ideology bubbling in his brain and lacks the life experience to understand it is total B.S. Plus he has lots of time on his hands. Look for several more weeks of Aaron.

  27. I don’t think Aaron is a Lefty, I think he is a Libertarian, is a little full of himself lately, and perhaps has forgotten his manners wrt visiting someone else’s place.(You typically don’t complain about a home you’re visiting).
    Tony
See Google. She has been the Queen for the largest portion of the 20th Century. I’ll suggest that her role in history is enough to deserve common courtesy and respect. After all, I respect you. What have you done?
