  3. One major issue the Americans face is the disproportionate representation of liberal judges on the Supreme Court. The country regularly polls at approximately 20% of people who claim to be liberal, yet they represent 45% of the judges on the court. This is something that must be remedied if the citizens are to keep THEIR country.

  4. It isn’t bad news. A few crumbs dropped from the Supreme Court’s table are better than nothing. However, it doesn’t matter, Komrad Kagen will get the train back on track in a year or so.
    In any event, the U.S. is awash with guns and ammo. The only question is, when will the citizenry stop hording this stuff and start using it for its intended purpose?

  6. I think its a safe thing to say that when it comes to citizens rights to gun ownership that if you aren’t prepared to use them, you eventually lose them.
    If / when this ruling gets overturned, state and local governments will go nuts with mindless and ill conceived gun restrictions all for the “safety of their citizens”.
    A common news report you don’t hear in Canada is: “the Seattle police are looking for a suspect involved in a home invasion attempt who is believed to have been wounded!” In Canada, the report would be more like: “Vancouver Police are investigating a home invasion and fatal beating of an elderly couple in East Vancouver…..”

  7. KevinB, that does seem the logical extension of the ruling, doesn’t it? I suspect that constitutional challenges to some of these laws are a pretty safe prediction.
    Here’s a quote from the Wikipedia article on one of the worst “anti-carry” laws, New York’s Sullivan Act:
    “Some question the constitutionality of the act, due to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. While the Supreme Court has only recently ruled that the Second Amendment prevents localities from enacting outright handgun bans, (See: Incorporation), the question of whether the Second Amendment provides grounds to invalidate local gun control laws like the Sullivan Act may be addressed given the recent decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in Parker v.     It was still a nightmare, Cabala’s shipped the 1,000 rounds to my place of work. A University. You would have thought that all kinds of RED FLAGS would have went up when shipping a 1,000 rounds of live ammo to a well known Louisi-Yana University. Jeeeezzz !!!!
    I called them and asked WTH ? Their reply ? We have .223’s and long colt .45’s on sale Mr. Johnston. Oh Good Lord, send me 500 rounds each. But this time, send it to the Daycare, 😉

    Oh ghod I hope so. Limbaugh just spent his first half hour on this. The argument for the decision quotes extensively from Civil War era law, which found among other things that a freed slave was not free without the right to keep and bear arms. Which, aside from being blisteringly obvious, is going to be absolutely AWESOME to hear the likes of Kagan, Obama, Clinton, Pelosi, Reid etc. trying to argue against.
    The media will naturally run silent on this issue, you’re not going to hear jackson about it on the news other than the bare fact of it. Behind the scenes you may be sure the liberals will be frantically beavering away on new strategies to grind this down.
    That is why it is very important to press onward with suits against cities, states etc. who try this crap, and also to press on with the Castle Doctrine campaign. Castle Doctrine is, basically, “A man’s home is his castle, to be defended with whatever force is required including deadly force.” Many places in the US require that you leave the house and run away, deadly force can only be used if the robbers follow you.
    Canada of course essentially forbids deadly force in any event, other than as a technicality. If you kill somebody defending your life you will lose every penny you ever had or ever hope to defending yourself from Crown prosecution, best be sure its worth it. If you kill somebody defending mere property (or even bend them a bit), they’ll nail you for the max.
    Of course if you are a drug dealing junky and whack another junky over a drug deal, using an illegal pistol for sure, that’s just bidness and you’ll be out in two, possibly out on conviction for time served. Bidness is bidness, liberals unnerstand that.

  16. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, when specifically asked if she believed in the right to bear arms at he confirmation hearing, said “Yes, most definitely”.
    She voted against the right to bear arms in the very Supreme Court she sat on.
    Did this really surprise anyone? Anyone….Bueller….anyone?

    The coming lectures we will hear here in Canada, if we hear anything at all, will be about the US awash in guns with quotations of 1980’s vintage stats to back the blarney up. Of course the Gun Control laws in Switzerland or Israel will never be discussed; nor will crime rates in countries with perfect Gun Control such as Jamaica or Mexico.

  19. I’m relieved they got this ruling on the 2nd amendment passed before kangaroo Kagan bounces behind the bench. Fully expect this Marxist spud to overturn dozens of previous constitutional rulings that have stymied the commie hordes from dismantling the constitution.

  20. As Kate said above, Kagan only replaces Stevens who is interchangeable with any leftist they stuff in his place. Of course any Republican worth voting for should oppose her nomination and use every rule of the Senate to slow everything else to a standstill. I predict “Cap and Trade” Lindsay Graham and his pal McCain will be the first to cave on her appointment.

  21. Yeah, Grahamnesty had no problems confirming the “wise Latina” nominee, so I’m sure Kagan will be rubber stamped onto the bench as well.
    I am glad the ruling went this way, but I am disgusted that 4 of the Justices were A-ok with states and cities overruling the Bill of Rights as they see fit. Activist judiciaries are the favored tool of liberals in the USA, because there is such widespread resistance to accomplishing those same ends via the legislative process. Look at the health care debacle as a perfect example. It was crammed through only by parliamentary muscle. The only thing bipartisan about it was the list of Representatives who voted against it.

  26. Interesting that Alito and Thomas take their reasoning from two different parts of the fourteenth. They both decided the right way, yet I think that Thomas’ reasoning is the solid foundation.

  27. I like Texas because if I choose to enter someones land and try to steel their property or attack their family or kids,they have the right to have a weapon and blow my pathetic butt off for the Police to pick me up and ID my body.
    It also allows me to do the same to a punk if they come on my land to take away all I have from my years of hard work,lazy thugs make bad choices every once in a while,but the RIGHT to do it can often end up being Dead-Right.

    4.Failure to conduct a competent administration of the Afghan War, the firing of his own General McChrystal for factual/truthful comments…The selection of a replacement, Gen Petraeus, who had a serious moment (incapacitated) the week before during his testimony before the Senate. The health of Gen. Petraeus would only be ignored by an ignoramus.
    The beer summit is Obama’s only successful endeavor

    I have talked with more wounded combat troops in our VA hospitals than our commander-in-thief,

    I stand all amazed at their professionalism and love for each other and their country.

  30. Some years ago, a cartoonist friend and I were musing and doodling about possible names for English-style pubs, and the appropriate pub sign for them.
    Our favourite was a pub whose sign would have a compulsory-right-turn arrow traffic sign, next to and pointing towards a bear rampant, like on the California flag, the both of them enclosed in an armorial escutcheon.
    The name of the pub would be “The Right To Bear Arms”.
