Welcome to SDA Late Night Radio. Yesterday, on Memorial Day, Americans paid tribute to their fallen soldiers. Steve McCann, who was brought to the US after being orphaned in World War II, believes that citizens of other nations should be thankful as well:
With each new generation, the knowledge and experience of war and survival are replaced with the demands of day-to-day living and an unfortunate tendency to fall prey to the false but fashionable proclivity of blaming the United States for all the world’s ills. But the various countries of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East who have experienced peace and prosperity for years or decades would not have done so without the willingness of the United States to expend the lives and wealth of its citizens.
On Memorial Day, when Americans honor the memory of those who without hesitation paid the ultimate price to defend the United States, it is fitting that the people and their progeny around the world whose lives were so impacted by these same sacrifices pause and express their gratitude.
Indeed. Tonight’s song, George Jones’ heartfelt 50,000 Names, is dedicated to our American friends, including the families of fallen soldiers.

Eeyore – that’s exactly the point I’m trying to make about Obama. You said it perfectly.
I think it makes an enormous difference if one operates within an ideology that one, intellectually, believes is a valid ideology, vs simply using an ideology because it has certain results that you choose to have.
For Obama, as Eeyore points out, if Druidism had the same result, then, he’d be in that camp.
The next thing to watch, I think, is that Obama will move more and more into a Virtual World defined solely by His words. During his life, he’s managed to control his interactions with other people by his narcissistic tactics: lies, emotional manipulation, racist accusations or innuendoes.
He’s never put himself in a position where what he did…had an accountable result that was related directly to himself. That includes his community organizer, his stint as a legal lecturer, his being editor of the Harvard Law Review, his two years as a senator. He was not directly accountable and could continue to manipulate and mould his world via Words.
But being President has moved him into both direct accountability AND a requirement, not to simply campaign and receive audience cheers, but to ACT, to make specific decisions about real situations in the world.
He’s unable to do that.
He can’t handle being in a position where outside events and people do things outside of His control.
His first reaction is anger that these events and people don’t ‘obey’ him.
He’ll also blame others for these events.
His next reaction will be to pretend they don’t exist.
I think he’s coming to a threshold where he’ll retreat more and more to the Virtual World of Words where he alone defines what’s real for him. Who will take charge? What’s next?
That’s very funny, andy.
Kevin
I bow to your wisdom. Can never tell these Hollywood types apart.
ET-Eyeore:
That wraps it up, then.
There are NO actual socialists; not as such; defining socialists as people who actually, genuinely believe all that hocus-pocus about egalitarianisn and brotherhood.
I mean, then, NDP-ers who, say, put their children in private schools, they’re not really socialists, right? We need not rail on anymore about the NDP. They’re pro-free-enterpirse.
And clearly, Algore, with that sasquatchian carbon footprint, isn’t actually an environmentalist is he? I mean, he really doesn’t believe in it, does, he, else he’d live more modestly! And therefore, we should really give up knocking them, too, eh?
SO, whew, in conclusion: because you can’t find any socialists who ACTUALLY down-deep BELIEVE in the ideology other than as a vehicle to power, socialism doesn’t exist.
And all through history, because the great socialist leaders like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, the Castros, because they themselves don’t actually live in a commune and follow extreme egalitarianisn as a way of life, SOCIALISM DOESN’T ACTUALLY EXIST. Man, oh man, I’ve had an epiaphany!
So, ET, I must graciously concede: Obama’s not a socialist. Damn!
I think Obama is a true believer. His entire existence has been steeped in Marxism.
There is a classic C.S. Lewis quote appropriate to Obama and his ilk:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
Thank you Kevin.

Doesn’t this vile state of affairs stem directly from Kant’s categorical imperative?
…and German subs on the east coast (just off New York) and Japanese subs on the west coast…
I specified a credible threat of invasion, FREE – care to compare submarine-based invasions across the Pacific starting from the Japanese Home Islands or across the Atlantic, starting from -say- Brest to an actual invasion of a Continental landmass as seen at D-Day? Those subs were nothing more than harassment, and maybe a threat to shipping – they were never going to lead to a beachhead.
Me No Dhimmi / ET:
Can we compromise and say that he is a Marxist narcissist? I think it would be wrong to say he is a narcissistic Marxist because narcissism is what his consciousness revolves around.
Seriously, I think this is the distinction that ET is making. He’s a narcissist first and foremost and a socialist/marxist second. Strip back his personality to the core and you find a narcissist at the core.
If we agree on this, we can stop arguing. It’s like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Is Obama a Marxist? He lacks the discipline to be a serious, CPUSA card-carrying Marxist. On the other hand, he lacks the intellect to operate on any other basis than the knee-jerk Marxism he was raised on. A default Marxist rather than a serious ideologue.
