  1. “The air quality was poor enough that even a healthy person could feel signs of irritation,” said King. “The eyes are usually the first to get it, the respiratory system. But those are passing symptoms. They will disappear when the air quality improves. It is not something that requires medical attention.”
And that folks, should have been enough to keep scores of public servants at home…..

  2. Just like they did with the swine flu the Chicken Little Chief Medical Officers were wailing and wringing their hands about the health danger on TV…more we’re all gonna die scare mongering. Have these people ever burnt a brush pile in their lives?

  3. Gee and unlike the Supreme Court, they didn’t require all firefighters to be fluently bilingual. Odd, isn’t it?

  4. What’s the fuss? It’s a link to the local Montreal news section of the CBC. Smoke blanketing a city sounds like a legit local news story to me.
I realize you like painting Montrealers (and Torontonians, and Ottawans) as a bunch of coddled, weak-kneed, latte-sipping, namby-pambies — and frankly, there’s some truth to it (Have you ever had a latte? Beats Tim Horton’s drip swill any day) — but really, you can do better than this.

  5. Reminds me of how the locals react when it rains in Los Angeles. Chicken Little anyone?

  6. Speedy…burned wood makes for cheap potash in the ashes. Seeing how Saskabush is sitting on the Motherlode some of us gotta make do with what we can. 🙂

  7. The funny thing is that the smoky haze over the lake here reminds me of what summer used to look like when I was a kid, and there were actual smokestack industries like steel mills and other factories commonly operating.
Makes you realize how much the air has cleaned up in 40 years.

  8. Does this mean the Liberals have shelved their Carbon Tax? Think about it. Quebec would need to pay back all its equalization payments to cover off the carbon tax on the forest fires.
