  1. Beginning of shopping list: gold, shotgun, firewood, candles, horse …

  2. Relate this equation to D. McGuinty’s Ontario. How many thousand windmills, build on prime agricultural land, at what cost, would it take to shut down one coal fired generating plant? The sums are similar to the answer for the transportation riddle. Unfortunately, Dalton promised to close the plant, a number of times, so giant windmills must be the answer. A lot of urban voters seem to buy into this nonsence.

  3. I read somewhere that in order to generate electricity to New York city using windmills would require the largest ones built, positioned nearest to each other possible, covering a land mass the size of, wait for it: New Jersey.
Of course, also providing that all are turning from wind blowing constantly.
There’s a reason why mankind went from sail ships to steam…

  4. It must be an early morning confusion, but I am thinking about Mack truck footprint on 3rd hole green.
    Mike
You may not know it , but you can not eat gold.

  5. Funny that Google thinks people interested in an article about renewable energy will also be interested in an ad for Q-Ray bracelets.

  6. Before investing in a power source such as wind power or cow farts, please insist on reviewing a bankable feasibility study sealed by a professional engineer with permission to consult in your jurisdiction, complete with corporate certificate of authorization.
Your subsequent conversations will most likely be held in a bullshit-free zone.
About the only way I know of to get the kind of transport efficiency of a diesel truck without burning fossil fuel, is perhaps a canal, or maybe river rafting. Less hilariously, perhaps electric rail would work.
Still, people use rubber-tired diesel powered haulage for a reason: it goes wherever it has to when it must and the cargo isn’t held hostage by a rail union.

  7. Hi xiat,
I suppose eating the gold would be one approach but sooner or later I’d probably figure out how to use small bits of the gold to purchase comestibles and/or, perhaps, seeds and a plow.

  8. We are truly in a sad state of affairs. Many of us have long known, almost self-evidently, that the promise of renewables such as wind and solar, is far off into the future. Barring a technological breakthrough of some kind, neither wind nor solar make any sense, economically or environmentally.
The sad part is twofold. First, it is sad there are folks out there too thick, dimwitted or just plain ignorant, that an article such as this is what is required to convince them renewables make no sense.
Sadder still, however, is that there are people who, even if they read this article, will still cling to the notion of “moar wind and solar, NAO!!!! — oh, and teh subsidies 2 plz.”

  9. Could have used the Mack during my commute this morning. Matter of fact, I could have used a Mack during my last golf round. The streets are for the living and so are the golf courses.

  10. electric cars are a fantastic idea
it’s the 5000 mile extention cord that sucks

all you nasty, knuckle-draggin’ neocon troglodytes
are simply refusing to see the light.
this isn’t about kilowatt hours… it’s all about
    generating good karma

    ohmmmmmm.

  12. I like one of the questions in the comments “How many wind turbines would it take to make one wind turbine?”.

  13. The greenies want 6 billion of us to vacate the earth by Marxist methods and the rest of us to live in caves and eat grass (with dandelions in Ontario).

  14. From the Edmonton Journal:

Alberta faced down a possible power crisis Monday after three major generators went off-line, adding to an already existing power deficit and virtually no access to imported electricity.
By the start of rush hour, Alberta was out about 1,700 megawatts of power supply off a demand load of 8,600 MW after the Sheerness 2 coal-fired plant powered down mid-afternoon.
The Alberta Electric System Operator issued a level one energy emergency alert by 2 p.m., calling on several industrial clients to reduce their power consumption, spokeswoman Dawn Delaney said.

    And now the money quote:

And there hasn’t been a breath of wind in southern Alberta to help out, either, noted Sheldon Fulton, executive director of the Industrial Power Consumers Association of Alberta.

  16. Golf carts, solar panels, and wind turbines are “green” especially when they’re manufactured in China. The Chinese use coal-fired power plants, but these Chinese carbon emissions are (Kyoto declared) more eco-friendly than Western carbon, don’tcha know.

  17. Believing that windmills can supply reliable, efficient power to Ontario, is like trying to power your house with 20,000 D cells linked together. In theory it should work, but practically, it doesn’t make sence. In Ont. we have a Premiere who very much believes, and a party who also thinks all the electricity desired can be generated without burning any fuel.

  18. Well the only slight issue i have is they make it seem golf carts are the only option My biggest issue from three years ago is let’s say they used an electric big rig ..o.k. just for practicallity purposes. Well that would solve the 1000 golf cart type scenerio my issue is how far would you get hauling all of that on one big electric truck, and how often would it need to recharge and again where would the elctricity come from.Probly coal fired power plant’s lol.
I argue with even my conservative green friends wind energy is a sham and so are solar panels on a large scale. If you wanted to try to reduce your energy consumption in your home you could alway’s build a small wind turbine but really even that is a sham as well same with solar panels becasue of cost. The steel needs to be mined to build the wind turbine and the solar panaels are just to big of a cost to recoup your money your looking over 20 years in some cases.
The green weenies are really like a bunch of little baby birds in the nest waiting for mommy to come home and “feed” them .
Sorry i tried to be a greeny on this i tried to take there side but i could feel myself getting stupid at least i tried .
