  1. Word has it that Timmy’s is staying open, despite the “orders” from the new American command.
Someone, names being withheld, someone with a Maple Leaf on his shoulder, told the American Commander to “Blow Me”.
Let’s hope it is a true story.

  2. Minor typo lance. Last word of the first sentence should read “morale”.

  3. That video give a whole new meaning to “don’t ask, don’t tell”. Guys with -way- too much time on their hands, eh?
Maybe instead of fiddling about with burger joints, McChrystal should look into why -his- guys on base have time to burn. Fiddling around with music videos instead of keeping their sh-t squared away? My old RSM would have had a frickin’ Holstein.

  4. Seeing that video ought to give the Taliban some confidence…………
Looks like there wrists would get tired after pulling a trigger…….

    Precisely mine own sentiment….
I would have conducted a “reign of terror”….
What convicts call a “shake down”…
Morale is such a subjective matter….

  6. Come on boys, anyone with any time in the military knows that “down time” is inevitable and unavoidable. Whats worse, silly make work projects or sitting around bored with nothing to do? Thats a matter of opinion I guess.
The lady Gaga video certainly isn’t the first though. It seems to be some old bizzare tradition….enjoy the following:
One of the oldest I know of, and probably my favorite, Norwegian troops in Kosovo, complete with original lyrics:

A bevy of bored Brits in Iraq. Take note one of them hoists a G36 assault rifle at one point….special forces me thinks. Even the best gotta relax sometimes right?

  7. It’s great!! Gotta love it, that front line guys can still have a sense of humour and laugh out loud. And to all those who are offended by it, have a look at the ordinance that they pack in their on hours.
    Good on ya’ guys!!

I have a collection of programs put out by the POW’s of Stalag VIIIB which had the men playing both male and female roles in the plays they put on. If you weren’t there I would think it would be disrespectful to even allude to anything other than they were killing time and someone had to be the woman in the play.
As far as the food goes, my Father who survived almost 4 years in afore mentioned prison camp was almost killed by the American Army’s Catering Corps. after liberation.

  9. Hilarious stuff lance and Junker.
This is known as ‘blowing off steam’ in an otherwise stressful situation.

As one announcer suggested we need a new show for soldiers:
“So You Think You Can Fight?” with duelling videos…

  10. They’re just having fun! What kind of a lame brained S.O.B. would close a burger joint in a war zone where American men and women have given up their lives?? They had a little piece of home at Kandahar airfield and now that rotten bastard is taking it away! Gotta go, otherwise am going to write stuff that could get me arrested.

  11. The say they need the room, so who am I question but might be a case of some rooster strutting going on.
Or have their federal ‘health care czars’ silently banned all fast food outlets within their domain, but coffee’s still ok for human consumption?

  12. Joe Citizen has clearly never been a soldier.
Remember Abu Graib, Joe? That’s what happens when certain kinds of guys have too much time and too little adult supervision.
I hasten to add that the video in this thread has nothing to do with anything like that, obviously. HArmless fun, maybe attracting a bit more attention than they had planned.
But “the devil makes work for idle hands” has been an organizing principle of armies everywhere since forever.
Morale is managed in different ways. One way is by making sure the enlisted men don’t have time to screw around causing trouble. American officers never seem to have learned that one too well outside the Marines. I’ve heard many reports of joint US/Canadian exercises where the Canadian troops are busy every minute while the Americans pretty much hang out, eat and smoke cigarettes most of the time.
Canadians love being Opposing Force in joint exercises. Capturing the US commander and his whole headquarters is always a giggle.

[….Canadians love being Opposing Force in joint exercises. Capturing the US commander and his whole headquarters is always a giggle.]
    Yeah that’s good for morale.
I noticed a big difference in off time between the US service and Le Legion D’etrangere……..
The Italian Bersiglieri(sp) did that to a US unit on a joint exercise….HEE HEE….really….the Yanks hadn’t a prayer against the guys with the feathers in their caps…..a learning experience.

  14. Don’t know how my Old Man and the rest of his tank-crew made it from Normandy to Oldenburgh in ’44 and ’45 without fast food.

  15. So, you have to wonder about the real reason behind this closure of fast food joints. It doesn’t make sense that they “distract” from the mission,it’s only a burger or pizza joint, not a whorehouse/casino complex complete with burkha clad ladies of the evening.
Are the FF places being heavily subsidized by the government, and they don’t want to spend ever diminishing funds supporting them?
It’ll be interesting to find out what caused them to shut down a couple of joints that provided a bit of “home” to the guys stuck in a third world shithole, if some intrepid Reporter ever does his job.

  16. Funny, Funny, Funny!! Reminds me of the still photos my brother brought back from his UN Peacekeeping duties in the Sinai back in 1980-81. My other brother commented ” Ah yes, Canada’s Finest!!” These are America’s Finest and I think they did a damn fine job with the materials at hand – as an aside, I thought black people were supposed to be great dancers!
