Y2Kyoto: California’s Global Warming Solutions Act

Recognizing that “employment” is one of the primary drivers of global warming, California has been among the first to act. And things are turning around!

Green jobs compose less than one percent of California’s economy. That’s right, less than one percent. From 1995 to 2008, California added only 42,000 new green jobs. At that rate of growth, it would take 89 years for green jobs to replace all of the other jobs California has lost in the current economic downturn.

The project is being watched closely in Washington, where by all indications, the California example is set to go nationwide.

  1. In the same vein.
I understand that humans breathing out CO2 will shortly be looked into, and you will have a ration, if you exceed that ration, you will be asked/forced to hold your breathj until the next fiscal year.
This by itself, should reduced both pollution, global warming and unemployment in one fell swoop.

  2. The harsh and brutal reality of economic consequences about to whup the Pinheads, Progressives & Greenie Utopians up side the head . . . really hard.
The truth about living an “unsustainable lifestyle” economically not environmentally is going to be a massive shock to the legions of grifters and rent seekers currently enjoying their lip-lock on the public & greenie teats.

  3. You know what’s fun? Watching as more and more avowed Liberals watch this administration operate, and suddenly realize they aren’t trying to Fix America. They’re trying to -break- it.
When an American Liberal finally gets that, understands it, fully encompasses the reality of that effort to destroy their country, well the outrage is most enjoyable. Then you get to tell them “I F-ing Told You So!”
After 20 years of being dismissed as a gun-toting racist, that just rocks.

  4. Someone should tell Arnold about the Austrian School of Economics and the Mises Institute,he seems to have learned his economics from the NDP.
One million jobs have left California in the last three years! To any politician with half a brain that should indicate there’s something wrong with the way they’re doing government.
Schwarzenegger is a socialist in Republican’s clothing.

  5. A mirage all right !!
A mirage is not only a weather phenomena. A mirage is an essential part of any cult.
John Batchelor podcast guest, April 6; a contest to guess the next scam. He received 300 suggestions. Among the best; All the polyester clothing is building up a huge static electricity charge on earth that will result in a horrendous thunderbolt grounding to the moon. Moon shatters and pieces fall to earth, wiping out mankind. Also, pumping out oil increases plate tectonic friction resulting in massive earthquakes, of which Haiti was just a start.

But… But… You just cause Future Shop to donate $1 to the David Suzuki foundation! Definitely not worth it.

  7. Now isn’t that just so typical of those Yanks to forget all about us up here!
I mean, Dolly McGuinty is going to bring us to our knees in no time flat with HIS $8 BILLION dollar alternative energy fiasco.
We’ll be broke before you will…we’ll be broke before you will…nya, nya, nya na na!

  8. Re: Ken (Kulak), Here is my comment to Future Shop. I know Suzuki the socialist get $1, but I could not resist.
I mostly try to get by with less. For instance I have cut down on many of the consumer products that I buy. As a first step, I decided never to buy anything from a retailer who supports the David Suzuki foundation.
There is probably no need for you to continue sending me your weekly flyers. There, doesn’t that feel good. Idiots!

  9. Sorry to dump cold water on half-baked thinking, but a big gap in reason exists here in connection with China.
We have a TV program in Canada, [Dragons Den], where idea people present new products in the hope of winning financial backing for production of those new products.
A couple of idea men with a new type of hammer did win approval for $200,000 of production support. A few conditions for improving the bottom line were listed and first among those was the matter-of-fact plan to re-locate manufacturing from Canada to China.
This same matter-of-fact idea that, ‘we’ll make our product in China’, exists in California as it does everywhere in North America. It’s No wonder that everything we buy has that ‘made in China’ label on it.
No amount of screeching in favour or against green policies is going to make any difference in jobs and employment as long as we remain blind to the true underlying problem.
Manufacture in North America and face the competition like resourceful Americans have done before unions became greedy monsters. TG

  10. Here is a quote from a small business owner who recently fled California for Colorado. He sells a high end line of car/truck/motorcycle detailing products.
“”CARB” The California Air Resource Board. They are the fine organization that made it illegal to sell our In & Out Spray, and required us reformulate most of our products over the past three years. We were fined for not having dates on products which did not expire. (Our VRT, completely VOC compliant, which you can drink, didn’t have a date, which cost us $3,000 in fines.)
The California State Board of Equalization. There are 58 counties in California, and each and every one of them has a different sales tax rate. Once a month, our controller and bookkeeper meet for two days to calculate the tax owed for each of them. We collected the tax from the customers, but still, just the hourly pay to calculate the sales tax was over $400/ month.”
Think about that. They were fined $3000 for not having an expiration date on a product that does not, indeed cannot, expire.

California unfriendly for small/ any business?
    Example:
Coda Automotive also co-owns the manufacturing process with the “premiere Chinese state-owned lithium battery manufacturer” Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co., Ltd. Coda will use Lischen’s million-sq.ft. battery manufacturing facility in China to make the packs.
    =============================
Coda wanted to reproduce this plant in the U.S., but did not get any money from the $2.4 billion in Recovery Act battery grants that were awarded in August.
    ===========================
Too late now. California is BROKE!

  12. They hiring anyone to wipe down wind generator blades of blood, feathers and body parts? There is a green job right there.

  13. Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the greenest of them all?

    GREEN POWER
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell have been locked in a race for supremacy in the burgeoning market for green energy projects for the past year. On Thursday, Mr. McGuinty leapfrogged ahead of Mr. Campbell by awarding just over $8-billion in renewable-energy projects that will create enough power to light 600,000 homes. This is in addition to a $7-billion deal inked in January with South Korean industrial giant Samsung Group.
But Mr. Campbell won’t be sitting on the sidelines for long. He plans to recapture the lead by rolling out legislation as early as next month to establish his province as a green-energy powerhouse.
And in the past month, electricity utility BC Hydro awarded green energy contracts worth an estimated $3.8-billion and has another eight contracts pending that could bring the total to over $6-billion.

Electricity bills in Ontario set to rise $300 a year by the end of 2011

  14. Greenpeace is whining that they found evidence of a hundred and sixty some animals killed at the oilsands in Fort Mac. Wow… What a discovery. How shocking! They should drive any highway in the country. They would find evidence of a hell of a lot more than that. One of their beloved wind mills probably kills more than that in a given month. What f**king morons!!

  15. And our electricity rates here in BC just went up 9%. Plus the Gov’t took a substantial sum of “Surplus” money from BC HYDRO & ICBC and put it in general revenue. IIRC it was in the $100’s of million dollars they took.

  16. This State is Going to hell fast. So Obama wants to bring hell to all the others. Its a Nancy (Polosi) Nation now. California will do its bit to sink America. As quick as its done itself.
This is the blueprint for ignominy of America.
    JMO

  17. Schwarzenegger is a socialist in Republican’s clothing.
Arnold (as with many celebrities) lost his balls a looong time ago (and it wasn’t due to steroids). Have we all forgotten why many highly-paid celebrities “go forward” as socialists?
