Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Funny; when I read this story Gun Control comes to mind. I’ll bet the previous white government brought the legislation into Law.
Obamacorps!
What a pity. The great democracies have washed their hands to the fate of Zimbabwe’s white farmers – which somehow doesn’t surprise me.
I tell you one thing, if those folks ever decide they’ve had enough and want to head to these shores, I would hope that their refugee claims would be processed in double-quick time.
They can move into my neighbourhood any day.
Lots of room on the prairies for them to farm. As Ive been saying for years. It might even slow the farm industry from going completely under, for food factories companies.
This is the fruit of Socialism. Notice not a whisper from those who brought this about in a self righteous ejaculation of socialism.
South Africa is only taking longer.
Socialism lays waste Nations. Yet fools still follow this philosopher of death Marx.
This perniciousness fruit will kill us all if not eradicated as the fools gold of politics it is.
Multi Millions dead, yet this evil is the norm in our universities.

Africa is doomed. Withdraw all aid, help anyone who wants to get out, then blockade the continent for 50 years. After that, go in and see what’s left. In the meantime, ignore all screams for help and let them clean up their own human sewage.
We have good friends from Zim. He is Canadian, she is African (White). When they saw the writing on the wall a few years ago, they came here with the 4 kids. The government gave her an extremely difficult time. But her black friends…no problem. Blacks from Zim could claim refuge status here, not whites.
And their friends were trying to come to Canada to farm. Canadian government said no… he had spent time in the States as a teen on an exchange program. He could not prove that he didn’t break the law as an exchange student so back to Zim they went.
Many of their friend have been killed.
Would this be the appropriate time to remind Canadians that they don’t actually *own* their property either?

The story varies, but it seems Rhodesia was lost in the shuffle as the UK and US pushed aside the government so all the people could finally enjoy democracy: a choice between a Maoist (Mugabe) and a kleptocrat with Russian leanings (Nkomo). South Africa supported this move to provide more time for themselves.
In spite of a very statesmanlike acceptance speech of reconciliation and initially working cooperatively with the opposition, Mugabe has pushed Zimbabwe into a dizzying downward spiral. He has used “land reform” to enrich his supporters, but most of the land is soon no more productive than it was 500 years ago.
Education has stood up surprisingly well considering the poor economy but is now deteriorating as well. Mugabe himself is very well educated, having earned eight degrees and receiving a number of honorary degrees.
Yet the more I observe, the more inclined I am to believe that he is a saint to the watermelon green activists. An ecocracy would have been proud to have achieved the same results in 30 years.
Mulroney was a big push for this to happen. The watermelon crowd want this to happen here. You see, non-productive farms and farmland lead to mass starvation and would help to reduce the world’s population to 1 billion.
Had a Rodesian fella working for me way back when.
When he went home to see his folks…..he became a casualty….
If the machete mobs/war veterans are successsfully fought off….the gendarmarie/army arrive with guns….survival is futile.
Any resemblance to politics is pure sophistry by Mugabbe—-his tribe is the majority government, a majority enhanced daily by the 4 horse-men.
The minorities are murdered, starved, and denied medical attention. As time passes all tribes suffer…medical/food wise.
Elections don’t even qualify as farces….
If I was in charge, I would evacuate everyone who had not raped or killed anyone and wanted to leave, then wall off the entire continent. It seems a total loss at this point.
You are so right SDH – they don’t call it darkest Africa for nought, there is a malevolence there that seems to be undefined and the people cursed. Mugabe is just another Castro and the Garden of Africa is just another plantation. I really can’t blame Africans, white or black for doing anything to get the hell out. (Make that get out of hell)
I use to work in South Africa. A really beautiful place – so sad really. I seams like there is no hope in Africa. A beautiful little Zulu man once evangelized Christ to me. He spoke in Afrikaans as he was dressing me for work under ground at a diamond mine in the Free State. Though I could only understand the general drift of what he was saying, I could tell that he was troubled by the large urban centres where he could not see God. I smiled at him as I already was a Christian and I was glad to know that there are some kind and wonderful people in Africa. It breaks by heart. Is there no end to the evil that some men commit?
Lorenzo, now do you believe that the work of the left is the work of Satan?

“South African “White Supremacist” beaten and hacked to death.”
This “White Supremacist”‘s Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging party’s symbol looks quite familiar. Does it remind you of anything?
Not that this chap was a saint. He was recently in prison for aggravated assault and attempted murder. On the other hand, some claim he was a security forces double agent who helped neutralize other right wingers.
That said, you can’t go around killing people. Initial accounts suggest this had less to do with his views and more to do with his failure to pay wages.
Well at least they took care of all those racist white farmers. Now Zimobambawea, will be the utopian beacon of peace, and we can all live happy in that knowledge.
Real “hope & change” Africa style instead of that imitation Chicago hussle.
All men are NOT created equal. And like it or not, some things the racists say about blacks are true.
There is only one thing common to pretty much every fly blown desolate chit hole in Africa and every crime ridden slum places like New Orleans, Detroit and Washington.
I will leave it to the non-thinkers to puzzle out.
Revnant Dream: “Socialism lays waste Nations. Yet fools still follow this philosopher of death Marx.”
And the theme running through all of these thuggeries is G*dlessness, the lie that man is the pinnacle of Creation — or, what they would call, the randomness of being.
The West’s Achilles’ Heel is having forsaken the faith of our ancestors, which fortified and guided their family and civil lives and gave them courage to face down tyranny when it raised its ugly head, as it is wont to do many times in one day.
Without faith to sustain us, we stumble, we fall, we acquiesce to evil, we run from the battle, we lay waste every good gift, we surrender to violence and destruction. We betray our birthright and the future of our children.
The Good News is that every day is a new beginning, and that Jesus Christ has overcome the large and small sins and tyrannies through His death and resurrection.

jim;
Here’s a story you might appreciate. I’ve got a friend into scuba diving who works up here in the summer and fall and lives in Jamaica in the winter months. Been doing it for years and even married a local Jamaican girl.
There was a 5 year period where I didn’t see him at all when he decided to live there year round. He gave that up and returned to Canada a few years back. When I ran into him and asked him what had brought him back, he just shook his head and said, “Bob, Jamaicans are hopeless, a bunch of crabs in a bucket.” I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about so he explained it to me.
When you go down to the beach to catch crabs you bring a bucket along. You set it down and go looking for a crab. When you find one, you bring it back and put it in the bucket. When you go find a second one, you come back to the bucket to put it in only to find the first one gone.
A little frustrated by that, he was about to return to his house to find something bigger to put them in, but another guy out there doing the same thing told him there was no need. The bucket he had was plenty big enough.
The secret the man explained to him was to find two crabs before you put them in the bucket, not one. With two in there, neither of them would get out, because when one reached up a claw and started hauling himself out, the second would go right up its back with the combined weight pulling them both back in.
Is it race, Jim? Cultural attitudes? Something else? Who knows. My friend has no idea. All he can offer is until that changes, there is no hope for the crabs in the bucket.
bob c
That is a profound and accurate anology.
This is what is so often the case in the inner cities…..good students being attacked…even murdered for being “white”.
Ebonics(sp)…..
It’s Darwin in reverse.

[….Not that this chap was a saint. He was recently in prison for aggravated assault and attempted murder. On the other hand, some claim he was a security forces double agent who helped neutralize other right wingers.]
Too many assumptions…
I can only speculate but this sounds like a whitewash of a bad situation.
Hypothetically…if this guy had successfully defended himself against these 2 assailants….the current regime would likely have prosecuted him for assault or ???.
This previous conviction is probably evidence that he got busted for defending himself before.
Added to that is the assumption that he did indeed owe these 2 wages…..extortion is a common factor there.
There is a good chance it was simply premeditated murder/political assassination.
It’s like some jokes…ya just had to be there.
sasquatch;
The part I just don’t get is this. Remember the Rodney King incident. Blacks who were upset at the white jury in Simi Valley who cut the cops loose didn’t get on a bus and go burn down houses in the white neighbourhood, but instead put the torch to their own. What was that about?
In Zim, once they’d killed the white farmers who they saw, rightly or wrongly so, as usurpers of their land, they didn’t move into the houses after doing the dirty deed, but set them alight then built themselves a mud hut somewhere in the pasture. Huh? Why wouldn’t they move into the houses themselves, some of which were really beautiful places.
I hate to use this comparison, but a snake who crawls into a hole in the ground and eats whatever rodent he finds, will then make the hole his own, at least until he finds something better. It is an instinct the virtually any animal has, yet seems completely absent in the case of many black communities.
bob c
Yes what you say is nery reflective/thoughful…
The Rodney King incident was more a product of media manipulation.
The few seconds of edited video….was portrayed as police brutality when the reality was a drug influenced suspect who could withstand taser and billy club blows…..nothing was mentioned of his conduct prior to that few seconds broadcast for what now seems incitement.
The Rodney King riots were actually an opportunity to riot vandalize and especially loot the asian businesses.
Any body who thinks they understand either Africa or Watts…has not been properly briefed.
Looks like a natural recruiting center for ACORN.
Doug, I think the devil is alive and well at all ends of the political spectrum. The evil on the left seem particularly effective in terms of the numbers killed. Additionally, living with socialism seems to be demoralizing and soul destroying. Where there is no hope, all is lost.
On the day Rodney King’s cop friends were acquitted, I was getting my hair cut at a shopping mall. The hundreds of assembled protestors didn’t march to the state capitol – they marched to the mall to liberate Starter jackets from their oppressive owners.
I was the Dean of a proprietary college – literally the educator of last resort for many young minorities. A few of them were smart, hard-working, and ambitious. It was a full-time job protecting them from the other crabs in the cage. The saddest part is that the worst predators in their lives were their “friends and family.”
I taught in Africa 1989, just after independence. As Canadians, we were greated with great enthusiasm and kindness by Zimbabweans. At that time, everyone I came in contact with was optimistic and upbeat about the prospects of their new country and their new leader, even though they faced an abundance of problems needing solutions (e.g.,protein deficiency diseases common to most children in the countryside; lack of rain for crops, etc.)
But soon after my return, rumblings were beginning about Mugabe and his thugs. Some Zimbabweans (not many)were even having kinder thoughts about Ian Smith’s regime.
One irony is that when many Zimbabweans who had been biding their time studying at Canadian, American, and Britiish universities while waiting for independence returned to Zim, they wasted their brilliant minds to undermine their countrymen by through political roles in the thuggish Mugabe regime.
A once beautiful country turned to Marxism and for which there are not enough tears to be shed.
POWinCA;
I don’t doubt what you say having seen many examples of it on the news over the years. My question is, why? What explains it?
I mean, if you go back through the history of Europe for example, I’m sure the same thing happened in our more primitive days. Somehow or another though, we managed to climb out of it. The balance eventually shifted to a society that was more constructive with far fewer destructive types running around. Why hasn’t Africa changed.
There are those who say that colonialization and slavery served to retard progress but I don’t buy it for a second. If being colonialized and enslaved retards social advancement, then Jews should be a very unsuccessful group of people. Somehow or another though, they managed to rise above it. So too for any number of other cultures who were on the wrong end of being enslaved.
Why not Africa? What’s holding them back?
Thanks for posting that Kate.
Grew up in Zim, parents lost nearly everything they owned to that thug Mugabe.
What is remarkable, but perhaps not too surprising, is that not one of the politicians who helped bring Mugabe to power have ever been called to task for it.
Readers of this blog mark my words: South Africa is heading in the same direction, just a bit more slowly. White farmers are being killed there in ever increasing numbers.
The real truth about South Africa does not make the news because even after all these years the liberal left refuses to accept that Southern Africa was a better-functioning place in the past than it is now. This glaring fact of past-vs-present contradicts the deeply held liberal belief that all African whites are evil, so they simply omit to report it.
The media and politicians are as guilty for Africa’s mess as are thugs like Mugabe. Bastards all of them.
Isn’t it funny (odd) how in the eyes of Canadian leftists Ian Smith the last PM of Rhodesia was evil incarnate simply because he was white. Apparently the fact that the country was thriving, prosperous and law abiding was of no consequence. Strange indeed that post PM Smith we don’t hear a peep out of these same leftist commies despite the fact Zimbabwe is now ruled by a dictatorial, murdering, thieving thug that has turned the bread basket of Africa into a living hell hole.
And the lunatic left brag about their compassion. What utter BS.
bob c, I dont know the answer to your vital question, maybe ET can give us some understanding with her tribal focus.
The saddest example that sticks in my mind is the black police officers looting stores in New Orleans while the incredulous TV interviewer asks them why they are doing this crime and not stopping the other looters. Their response “We’s got to get ours too!”
As two SWAT officers at their shooting range told me years ago in Florida. The slightest civil breakdown is an excuse for blacks to go shopping.
Who will they blame when the last few whites are killed or driven out of Zimbabwe and South Africa? No other group seems to disparage education and the drive to improve your life as they do, which is why the bucket analogy is so apt.
Hah.
I love it.
Frankly anyone white in africa who doesn’t up and sell, or just run away, is living hope over experience, and will probably be murdered there within my lifetime.
Most dangerous profession in the world: White Farmer in South Africa.
Still you have to admire the out and out racism and murderous socialism all mixed together and how it draws next to no criticism.
Nevermind the predicatable rise of the nomenclatura, the complete trashing of the economy, and infrastructure; the the fact the it’s always the fault of outsiders and not enough socialism.
Most humans are idiots, the balance of those who aren’t are power mad lunatics, and the thin strata of civilized people who are a despised minority.
The ultimate irony has to be Mugabe’s invitation to lecture the rest of the world at the Copenhagen Climate Conference.
And yes, the MSM ARE complicit in the murderous thuggery in SA and Rhodesia. From the moment of “independence” there’s been a virtual news blackout.
The policy of the Left.LIE.

“Why not Africa? What’s holding them back?”
“If I was in charge, I would evacuate everyone who had not raped or killed anyone and wanted to leave, then wall off the entire continent. It seems a total loss at this point.”
I have been priviliged enough to travel around the world and interact with businessmen from various countries. I have always found their perspective of Africa to be very different to the stuff peddled out on this board. The attacks on white farmers are despicable, no doubt, but they are hardly representative of the continent.
I would urge you to speak to a Chinese or Indian businessman sometime. China and India are emerging economies and are generally in better shape than the west. Their businessmen are always on the lookout for new opportunities and virtually all of them agree that ‘Africa’ is going to be the next major economic phenomenon.
They dont see Africa as being ‘held back’. Almost to a man, these businessmen believe that its only a matter of time before Africa marks its arrival (much like Asia in the 1980s).
Consider the raw facts. Chinese state-owned enterprises have invested heavily in Zimbabwe. So much so, that the Chinese practically own Mugabe, as was evident in the rather embarrasing incident in 2008 when he was told at Hong Kong that the Chinese government felt his presence at the Olympics opening ceremonies would cause too much controversy. The message, delivered cordially, worked, because for all his pride, Mugabe relies heavily on Chinese investment. And the Chinese have made similar large-scale investments in a host of other countries.
Look elsewhere and you will see similar trends. Indian conglomerates are trying to buy out entire telecom markets in South Africa. Indian automobile powerhouses are setting up factories across the continent. Chinese companies, state-owned and private – are rushing into Sub-Saharan states. The trend is remarkable. Even the Europeans are fighting to get a piece of the emerging markets in Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda. Needless to say, the emergence of a market is a sign of growing prosperity.
For all the Congo’s and Zimbabwes of Africa, there are states that are doing exceptionally well, even in the midst of a global financial crisis. Five of the twelve fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa. Some parts of India have benefitted more than others. The same can be said of Africa.
The problem is that in the west, Africa is synomymous with aid programs (which it undoubtedly needs, just as China, India and aother developing nations do), but there has been a failure to acknowledge that Africa IS actually improving. The influx of Chinese and India investments in the region is staggering.Search for it on google and you ll get pages and pages detailing the scale. Take off your horse blinkers and you will see that Africa has changed. Take a look at any multinational telecoms company’s investment portfolio and you will see the billions they have pumped into Africa.
Of course, in the west, it is easy to say that this is crime-ridden Africa, but to be honest, I don’t see too much hand-wringing on SDA everytime an Indian student is attacked in Melbourne. Crime tends to be synonymous with poverty, not race.
“Biznessman”, could it be to those people a system of corruption works to their benefit?
Kind of like the way I find the Mexican system for dealing with driving infractions, it’s much more convenient than having to deal with the actual legal system.
“They dont see Africa as being ‘held back’. Almost to a man, these businessmen believe that its only a matter of time before Africa marks its arrival (much like Asia in the 1980s).”
I think you are seriously overestimating the ability of Africa to compete.Africa is a basket case.
“I don’t see too much hand-wringing on SDA everytime an Indian student is attacked in Melbourne. Crime tends to be synonymous with poverty, not race.”
… oh, so you’re saying those attacking Indian students in Melbourne, are themselves only victims of poverty?
I know a few people who have spent a little time in Africa as well, some of them both prior & post white-rule. It’s been said to me that blacks holding positions of power will often treat fellow blacks worse than anything they witnessed under white rule.
Perhaps those in a position of power are victims of poverty as well.
I know the people that made those statements well enough to realize they are a long way from being racists, so don’t bother to discredit yourself by going there.
I talked to a co-worker from Uganda. He felt strongly about apartheid. I asked if it was so bad why did people from all over Africa go to SA? He said jobs. I waited for the dime to drop but it got stuck somewhere.
Zimbabwe: a metaphor and a prophecy for the whole world.
Once the westerner walked proudly anywhere in the world that s/he wanted. In another generation, s/he will find no place in the whole world to lay their head.
And every regular on this site knows why.
“I think you are seriously overestimating the ability of Africa to compete.Africa is a basket case.”
A valid point. The problem for you, however, is that businessmen in two of the worlds more successful economies (in the current climate) are putting their money where their mouth is. Consider the following:
Foreign Direct Investment in Africa
2006 – USD 36 bn
2007 – USD 53 bn
2008 – USD 88 bn (Population 1.0 bn)
China FDI 2008- USD 92.6 bn (Population 1.1 bn)
In other words, FDI into Africa doubled between 2006 and 2008. Somebody must be seeing something, eh? China and Africa are roughly similar in terms of population and yet China has managed to muster only USD 4.6 bn more than Africa despite being a much more attractive destination market. Baffling, eh?
Foreign Direct Investment return (Avg for 2007 and 2008) – 31% (highest in the world)
India – Africa annual trade (2009)- USD 40 billion (expected to rise to USD 70 billion in the next 5 years)
China – Africa annual trade (2009)- USD 109 bn
Not that there’s any sign of slowing down. In March 2010, the Indian government organized an India-Africa business conclave in which deals worth USD 10bn were signed. This doesnt include a separate USD 10.7 bn bid that Indian telecommunications firm Airtel is making for stakes in various African countries.
These are not small numbers. If you are going to bash Africa, at least look at the facts first.
“… oh, so you’re saying those attacking Indian students in Melbourne, are themselves only victims of poverty?”
No, I am saying that crimes tend to derive more from economic opportunism than from race. I am not the only one saying that either. The Indian government insists the attacks are racist. The Australians insist that they are manifestations of economic opportunism.
“And every regular on this site knows why.”
Yep. The inherent contradiction between colonialsm and western notions of (classic) liberalism. Virtually every intellectual involved in the independence movements was educated in the west. And more ofthen than not, they had the support of large numbers of intellectuals in the west. And they haven’t done a bad job either. With the exception of a handful of countries, most former colonie are far better off than they were under western rule. India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia – all large populated countries that provide their citizens with a much higher quality of life than the western governments did. India had two famines during the 90 years of formal British rule. It now produces enough food for the entire population. Go figure.
This society still does not get the only truth that helped preserve civilizations over the past 10,000 years: if you don’t kill your enemies, you die.

Go figure?
That’s pretty simple.
The WHITEMAN invented FERTILIZER.
In fact Mr. Bizness man, the(colonial) WHITEMAN INVENTED practically all the food that people eat all over this PLANET!
Did you know that the vast majority of the rice that 4 billion people eat everyday was invented by a WhiteMan ?
Did you know Mr. Bizness man that every country(other than North America) that was colonized by the WHITEMAN,it’s population grew at an ever accelerating rate?
> Virtually every intellectual involved in the independence movements was educated in the west.
Virtually every ‘intellectual’ involved in brutal civil wars in the 3d world was educated at the Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, Russia

AKA KGB’s boot camp.
Mr.g
Sorry mate, but your automatic “whiteman” did this, “whiteman” did that reaction is quite pointless and indicative of an inferiority complex of sorts.
For what its worth, the Indian famines under British rule have universally been attributed to British adminitrative and economic policies. It will, of course, shock you to know that India was producing enough food to feed its population even under British rule. The famines only came about because of colonial restrictions on internal trade, heavy taxation (to support military expeditions in Afghanistan) and the seizure and control of local-owned farmland, which was taken over by foreigners who were more interested in exporting their products to other countries at inflated prices. No matter how much you want to argue about the benevolence of the white man, history shows us that the life of the native was secondary to the importance of the profit. I mean, England made most of its money in India by denying Indians the right to process cotton and make clothing. The cotton was grown in India. Taken to cloth mills in England and sold back to Indians at much higher prices. Sound economic policy? No.
That said, there were many within British government who could not understand the policies their colonial offices were implementing. All you have to do is go through Lord Lytton’s private paper to see how much criticism he got from his “whiteman” colleagues for his disastrous rule of the country. Not that it mattered to him. Thing with people like him and you is that you get so convinced of your superiority on the basis of some emotional and racial belief, that you lose track of rationality.
Colonialism provided many benefits to the some of the countries colonized, but only a deluded person would believe that colonialism was unconcerned with profit maximization at the cost of the locals’ welfare. The railways, which India benefits from to this day, were not set up to make it easy for Indians to move around. They were set up to make it easier to move British goods around India to sell to Indians at inflated prices.
Please avoid making comments without knowing what you are talking about.
“In fact Mr. Bizness man, the(colonial) WHITEMAN INVENTED practically all the food that people eat all over this PLANET!”
Are you playing some kind of practical joke on us?The WHITEMAN who pioneered the hybrid varieties that you so rightly extol, was an American. And for what its worth, America has never been in favor of colonialism. Something about being a former colony that decided to fight for its own independence. Bit lame, this.
Let me spell it out for you. Not all white people thought colonialism was a grand idea. Too much emotion. Not enough rationality.
“Did you know Mr. Bizness man that every country(other than North America) that was colonized by the WHITEMAN,it’s population grew at an ever accelerating rate?”
And they increased even more after the colonials left. On the other hand, WHITEMAN’s own countries are now seeing declines in population growth. So what exactly is your point?
Aaron,
“Virtually every ‘intellectual’ involved in brutal civil wars in the 3d world was educated at the Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, Russia”
While I am all for bashing communism, this assertion is particularly intriguing given that this thread is about Zimbabwe.
Robert Mugabe attended Oxford (heard of it?) and the University of Fort Hare (in Appartheid South Africa) and the University of London.
No apparent affiliation with Moscow.
Biznessman,
You apparently were never a student of any USSR university and inherently have no idea how many operatives for the 3d world tin pot dictatorships were trained there.
On the contrary, I have intimate knowledge of such institutions, for example the so-called ‘Higher School of Comsomol’, now ‘Institute of the Youth’ (heard of it? of course not)
The ‘Ve-Ka-Sha’ – short for Higher School of Comsomol was in reality a paratrooper training base, with mothballed MIG-21 sitting in front of the main building, where students from every Comblock country trained in combat and politics.
Help yourself to Google translation of http://bse.sci-lib.com/article007531.html if you are (unlikely) curious of Ve-Ka-Sha.
The Lumumba University, Ve-Ka-Sha and number of similar institutions pumped out the rank and file dictatorial bureaucrats. I bet my boots that there are dozens of graduates among the Somalian As-Shahab – the horror stories of Russian girls marrying into abusive marriages in Africa were abundant.
An important fact that I forgot to mention, Biz: The education institution of the former USSR used to be ‘attached’ to the administrative and political bodies. So, guess what Ve-Ka-Sha was attached to? Guess no further: KGB.
Its full name used to be: The Higher School Of Comsomol under the State Security Committee, or ВКШ при КГБ СССР, in Russian. Get a draft?
