  1. I never understood how someone who killed a million Americans and millions around the world never has to stand for his crimes. I guess Dr. Mengele never went to trial. He outlived the hangman. Apparently so will Fauci.

  3. Fauci knew full well that the purpose of the senate hearing was to get him talking, catch him in a mistatement, and then charge him with perjury while under oath. A single misremembering of a fact might serve, no matter how innocuous. The only defense was to not talk.

    But even not talking — which Fauci has the constitutional right to do — might not serve, as Rand Paul now accuses him of contempt of congress. The good news for Fauci is that if the senate finds him guilty, it only leads to a real legal trial, which Fauci would almost surely win.

            Most of the federal restrictions concerned airline travel and federal employees. Most of the restrictions you likely felt were enacted either at the state or local level.

            And if you feel like your constitutional rights were violated, sue. You would probably lose, because the courts have allowed rights to be restricted in times of emergency so long as those restrictions are limited and justifiable.

        Why? Fauci’s 85 years old. He could well misremember something. Further, Republican congressmen would try to bait him into a screaming argument, and he might say something stupid in the heat of it. Even something that you know to be perfectly true might be made to look like a lie if it’s poorly stated.

        The only sure way to avoid a perjury charge is to remain silent, especially when you have opponents begging for an opportunity to ensnare you,

        1. To avoid perjury, he could have tempered each answer with, “to the best of my recollection…”, or “I don’t recall the specifics…”. But that would open him up to a questioner reading from his “diary” (official document) to remind him. Then he’s stuck and would have to admit to the truth. THAT’S what he couldn’t face.

      1. While Fauci can not be charged for professional actions before January 21, 2025, he can be charged with actions carried out today, including perjury while under oath. This is was a particular concern given Rand Paul’s comments before the hearing about wanting Fauci “behind bars”.

        Further, Fauci was only given a pardon for federal prosecution. He is still vulnerable to state prosecution, and his words in the hearing could well be used against him.

      But the pardon doesn’t cover current and future crimes. He is now exposed to contempt charges. Which he will be prosecuted for.
      Why plead the Fifth when there is zero possibility of prosecution for past deeds?Fauci is trying to protect others who are likely even more involved but are unknown. No pardon was issued for “unknown” persons.
