Open thread on the men’s hockey final (and the Olympics in general).
GOLD!!!
The nattering “own the podium” critics seem rather quiet of late… somewhere out there a Husky gas station is missing their flag.
The only thing that could spoil this is if there’s drinking after the game.
Heh – “Where was Iggy?” He left after Russia was eliminated.
Via email;
As you probably have noted I’m a very old man who lives in kelowna B.C. I have family yet in Saskatchewan. Yes, I did do a term as Postmaster, Regina a long time ago.
I, as well as most Canadians swelled with pride through out these Olympic games and my heart was glad and the tears did flow. To experience this euphoric National pride was beautiful.
I want to share with you a glimpse of something else that I saw as these games came to a close.
Since 1968 our land and it’s people have been brow beaten into a submisive quiet, almost too humble a land in which National pride was not only frowned upon, but was ridiculed. That lengthy and undeserved humilty was forced upon us by the intellect and bullying of Pierre Elliot Trudeau and the rest of the so called elite who felt they new best.
Today that era has been put to rest. We have now shed that false and pious humility and can take our place as a proud people who have earned the right to stand tall. For this old guy to have been around to see this change has given me a sense of relief.
To finally say goodbye to Pierre and bury him forever is something I only dreamed about.
God bless our Country and thank you to our Olympians for giving us so much.
Yours truly
Mel W.

Regarding Sutherland and his “just got out of bed” look, did you see him at the curling match yesterday? He is also very naive to the idea how freedom is achieved and maintained, or he is like every other liberal quack who believes that you can piss on the States and expect them to defend you.
I really do hope Canada wins this one, would be nice to rub the whiney limey’s media with the fact we hold the record for most golds won at the winter games.
Harper gave the bang on analysis to this game.
JJM: “Speaking of vacuous personalities, how about that oddly-tanned Ben Mulroney?”
His parents, Brian and Mila, spend most of their winter in Palm Beach, Florida, where they’re fixtures in the high society circuit. I’ll betcha that’s where Ben picked up his tan.
As for Donald Sutherland: He’s Tommy Douglas’s son-in-law, at least he was when he was married to Kiefer’s mother, Shirley Douglas.
You know how it goes in Canada? Circles within circles. They’re small circles, too.

Funny I think that every time “equalization” comes up.
I hope the boys drink a beer and smoke a cigar after they win.
Go CANADA!!!
Hey, is this hockey or roller derby? They’re checking each other every five seconds.
I just hope that whoever wins is gracious in victory and whoever loses isn’t sore, like the members of the American women’s hockey team. THAT was a really poor showing. Sure, they won the silver but lost any respect Canadians might have had for them.
Easily the very best ad during these games is the “welcomehome” tim hortons ad. The key – the desire on the families part to ASSIMILATE into Canada. Great, great ad the tugs at my emotions every time I see it. I would like to congratulate it’s creators if I ever get the chance.
Whoops! The game hasn’t started yet! I was watching footage of one of the other games. This is what happens when you’re blogging and watching TV at the same time. ‘Good thing I’m not crossing the street.
Re the Tim Horton’s ad: Agreed, Gord. It’s very touching.
…am I ever glad I didn’t waste even a second on this sham of a scam. Hope Soro’s made as much off of it that I think he did.
Shame on all true believers in freedom financially supporting these taxpayer rip-offs.
I could go on and on but for some reason all the crimes committed for this show to happen don’t matter to all those who claim that……….
sure which someone put a sock in mcquires motor mouth
Who’s bright idea was to schedule the game at a time when I’m in church?
If you are a Lutheran in Marquette, you’d be watching it in church (eating pizza and drinking pop) on twin 67″ screens! PS – good luck to my Canadian brothers and sisters…
Yuck.
They showed Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant in Toronto, and up front … was Jack! Layton.
An alternative to CTV online which keeps freezing up;

Winnipeg boy Toews with the first goal!
Nooooooo
yeahhhhh. go canada go.
Bobby Ryan’s slew-foot on Dany Heatley was cowardly and vicious. It was an attempt to maim, and it should have been a five-minute major and a game misconduct. If he did that in an NHL game, someone on Heatley’s team would have taken Ryan’s head off.
Oh well. The Sharks and the Ducks play against each other a lot, so Heatley won’t have a hard time finding Ryan.
Me No Dhimmi at February 28, 2010 12:44 PM:
Amen, Brother! How long do you figure it’ll take for the hatted ones to discover that constant wearing of a hat (sweat) leads to premature baldness. Look at the number of cops who are balding. My dad warned me about that over 50 years ago, and subsequently barbers have confirmed it.
Oh boy, olympic hockey!! Usually, Sunday PM is my time at the gym. I guess the gym will have to “weight.”
The US go to battle with “Remember the Alamo”
The Canadian battle cry was coined by Montreal’s Toe Blake “Remember the Rats”
Stanley Cup 1906/7
2-0!
GOOOOOOAAAALLLL! Canada 2-0
He shoots!!! He scores!!!
Yea, Perry! Yea, Canada!
(Sorry, Orlin from Marquette. Thanks for your good wishes.)
I don’t like the way this is going ~~

Jack Johnson is having a great game for the U.S.
hang in there orlin….it only gets better.
Did Kate do the USA goalie helmet? Looks like it.
I’m with you, Me No Dhimmi and DaninVan, re the hat thing. It gives me a warm fuzzy to know that guys who keep their hats on indoors — zero class, no respect — tend to go bald faster than guys who don’t.
Retributive justice. I’m smiling.
Can’t let goals like that in.
What Orlin said.
Oh, no! Too close for comfort now.
Congrats, Orlin from Marquette!
Eyeeee, there’s wind in them there sails!
A quote shamelessly stolen from the SDA blog: “Life, liberty and pursuit of hockeyness.”
Looking at those flags side by side above the rink, the Stars and Stripes and Canada’s Maple Leaf, made me think with gratitude how blessed both of our countries are and what good friends and allies we are.
How many neighbouring countries can boast an undefended border (more or less) and the kind of ties our two countries have enjoyed for centuries?
G*d bless Canada! G*d bless the U.S.A.!
batb, Amen. Long live my Canadian brothers and sisters.
What’s with the breaking sticks on the Canadian side, just when the guys are trying to score on a breakaway????
Who was in their dressing room last night? 😉
Here I am, drinking my pint of Molson made in Canada. May the best on the ice win (at the end of the 2nd). Canada you are awesome, and cheers and two thumbs up to you…
EBD- Maybe Dany can talk him into ‘going for a little drive’. Ok, that’s low!
We should be in for a terrific finish though.
GO CANADA!
What Joe said @ 11:17
What batb said @ 4:35, well, except for an arguments in 1812-14 and those Irish Fenians that drank too much. Second the motion on the last sentence.
All these guys look like me after shoveling wet heavy snow for 3-4 hours today, exhausted. Oh and “Johnny 100 Pesos” I missed church today too.
“I wish we were more like Costa Rica.”
Only a maroon could be so stupid as to wish for something like that. He probably thinks Obama is a great president because with him at the helm the US is looking more like Costa Rica every day.
Yahoooooo…..
YIKES!!!!!!
Just before sending the “yahoo” message, I was composing a “congratulations Canada message” ~~ WOW, may the best team win.
oh noooooooooo
Miracle needed urgently……..
Is anyone church in Canada?
Perhaps, you should go back to church…:)
Talk about a nail biter, I’m down to the cuticles
What is this? A Rough Riders game?
Someone will be a Hero!
Great game. Fast moving and a pleasure to watch. Go Canada. One more period to go!
On another note, I am a little sad ’cause CTV will revert to their usual programming after tonight- Count Floyd and piped in dreck from the US- time to start reading again and rummaging through the DVD collection. Sigh.
