  1. You might like to know that these two protesters had NOTHING to do with the anti-prorogation rally and only turned up to get some photos taken by a so called Progressive Conservative supporter. I can assure you that they are not students of the UoW and quickly ran off when approached and asked to remove their signs. Their faces were also obscured by masks…it wasn’t that cold.

  2. Hilarious … 220,000 people can hit a button on facebook and it’s a movement … I wonder how many of then actually voted in the last election. In reality three people who can’t spell turn up at Winnipeg … My newspaper said 1000’s accross the country … but the TV the images were laughably spartan … I can say with certainty about 5000-7000 people showed up at Olympic plaza for the torch last Monday night less than 10% of that turned up at the Prostest in Calgary … We know what more important. Go CANADA Go.

  3. So I’m assuming all of you would be out in full support of a Liberal government if they decided to prorogue parliament under similar circumstances?
Much of the support for the anti-prorogation side undeniably comes from partisans, but the same is true for most people posting here. In fact, had this occurred under a Liberal banner Kate would be having a field day with it.
My vote is usually up for grabs come election time, and in saying as much, I think there is a good case to be made for the detriment to our democracy that has occurred in using this procedure. Last year I could see the justification, this time I cannot.

  4. Speaking of Nazis and Facebook again:
Update on my earlier mention of the Nazi Brotherhood site on Facebook:
The bastards have been vanquished… the site is terminated, wiped out of existence.
Hey, cool… I went to war via the internet against the Nazis, and, now, a little while later, they’re finished, period!

  5. Of course, the stunning irony — so delicious — is that the anti-prorogue “forces” (sic) got tons of free advertising and cheerleading from the Canadian media, but could only round up a pathetic posse hell bent for leather to … what?
Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s proroguing Parliament (for a total of roughly three weeks) isn’t the Liberal$’ biggest problem: l/Liberal inertia is … despite an enthusiastic media peanut gallery.
Count Iggula must be scratching his head more than usual tonight.

  6. Hey Jon,I saw the cbc Skype thing too,and thot it appropriate that the couple were at a place called the Monkey Bar..I think in Costa Rica. The woman said they were going to have ‘unhappy’ hour in ‘solidarity’ with other Canadians.Funny, she seemed to imply that there would be a few others, but I didn’t see any follow-up,so that must have been a dud as well.I’m sure cbc would have run the clip repeatedly if it had been a big success! The old guy looking over her shoulder appeared as tho he’d already happy-houred himself into stupidity!
BTW,did any of you see Iggy Munster and some of his Que MP’s show up for a photo op at a Haitian church today? Where’s all the media outrage over this big phony show? ..especially at a church?

  7. God, do any of you people have points?
Not a single one of you has a coherent argument. Just ranting. Blah blah blah, Toronto is evil.
Hey, here’s an idea for your so-called “Citizen Journalist”, get the names of those two protesters. That way, we know that they actually are protesters who can’t spell. Until your journalist can prove otherwise, I will assume that the two people are just plants meant to drive losers like the rest of you crazy.

  8. What a total load of crap from a bunch of conservative red necks obviously west of Ontario.
I have voted consevative in the past but you bunch of yokels give the party a bad name. Heaven help us if any of you ever gain a free education with free medicare and become voting adults.
It’s enough to make Dief, 13th Prime Minister of Canada for those who don’t know, turn over in his grave. All I see here is a bunch of dissatisfied left over reformers.

  9. So I’m assuming all of you would be out in full support of a Liberal government if they decided to prorogue parliament under similar circumstances?
If the Liberals prorogued for three weeks it would not bother me. In fact they have done that lots of times in the past.

  10. I love it when lefties come here b.essing about voting con in the past. You lefties are too stupid to vote anything but lieberal or dipper,it’s great sport watching lefty heads exploding though.I hope Harper drives you all insane, lord knows it will be a short trip.

You’re telling me that If the photographer asked for their names that a) They would have given them? and b) You’d be fine with people taking pictures and asking for names at a protest?
    Puh-leeeze.
Just face it, these people in the picture idiots, it’s funny, now move on.

  12. Its been my experience the longer Parliament or any other Legislative bodies. The better off my wallet. The less BS you have to put up with. So porogie away.
    Its good for Canada.
The only crisis I see in Canada, is the suicide rate of AGW believers.

  13. “You’re telling me that If the photographer asked for their names that a) They would have given them? and b) You’d be fine with people taking pictures and asking for names at a protest?”
That’s called journalism. It’s the difference between newspapers and the pile of horse shit known as the blogosphere.
“Its been my experience the longer Parliament or any other Legislative bodies. The better off my wallet. The less BS you have to put up with. So porogie away.”
If democracy bothers you so much, then why don’t you move to North Korea?

  14. albertaclipper @ 12:11, you got that right and it would be Roland Penner.
Coalition spelt as “coaition”, by a University of Winnipeg student? My, my, these people should be taking a few English classes rather than being steeped in Marxism.
This protest is in anticipation of their future unemployment. They all know how generous the Libs are to the unproductive!

  15. What a person it takes to extol the virtues of the MSM on this site, albeit late to the thread.Try posting about the virtues of Canadian journalism early on in the thread then see where that gets you.

  16. If democracy bothers you so much, then why don’t you move to North Korea?

Your mixed up. Big government is the place you guys wanna be at. The bigger & more intense the bettor eh?
Seems to me most folks don’t need a bureaucrat to tell then how much they should make, what their kids should believe, or other intrusions into a free Mans or Womens life.
Government breeds regulation to grow which stops production.
Less government equals more personnel freedom. Get it now?

  17. Let’s get this straight – Alberta Clipper and Ken Kulak imply “Manitoba” Penner = Communist.
Interesting – I’ve just forwarded this info to former Conservative Party President and now Conservative Senator Don Plett. His mother was a “Manitoba Penner” – OMG I guess that makes him half-communist!!

  18. In looking carefully through the Winnipeg rally photos, http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/photo_search.php?oid=275343198311&view=all I noticed a couple of things:
No-one else in the rally except these two (M/F? oh wait, fingernail polish, probably women) had their faces covered. It was 2 degrees out. Around here, that’s March or April weather. Who wears balaclavas in springlike weather?
These two were wearing quite distinctive jackets. They don’t appear in any of the other photos, I know because I did a “where’s Waldo” on those pictures, even the pics taken very early in the rally, and couldn’t find jackets even remotely similar. If the organizers hadn’t said they had spotted these two and said they were out of line, there’d be no proof this pic was taken at the rally at all. C’mon, a single photo provided anonymously, of anonymous people, on a snowy day? Yeah, that really proves something.
Finally, if you look at all the other placards prominently carried at that rally, (for the whole three hours — boy, are my arms tired) I defy you to find a mis-spelled one. It’s possible, but I didn’t see any.
I have to ask, I can see you’re having fun, but don’t you have anything better to do?

  19. @ Noni Mausa
Have a gander at the picture that accompanied this story:
    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Over-300-protest-progogation-downtown-82516817.html
Protester at left of photo: “NO VACATION FOR PARLIMENT”
My spell checker says it should be parliament, the top of this typo sign can be seen in picture 20 of the 42 in the link you provided.
Here’s a link for more pictures of the Winnipeg protest:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnstondigital/
The typo sign is shown in picture 5, being held right behind the speakers’ platform.
    —————————————————————————————————————————-
And here’s the reason for my post today, this comment from the photographer, of the flickr linked photos, made on Facebook:
“John Johnston: I will gladly make you a copy of all my High Res RAW images taken at the rally. I posted the edited version on the wall of the main group. The only thing I personally edited out of my shots was the people holding up the “Vote Green” signs. I wanted to keep our memories as those of a non-partisan group.
For the record,… I am a professional freelance photographer. I work with Style Manitoba Magazine, The Free Press, CanWest and many other publications.
My goal was to capture the spirit of our rally and post it for all of us to remember. I am furious about this”
    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&ref=mf&gid=268315242169
He states: “The only thing I personally edited out of my shots was the people holding up the “Vote Green” signs. I wanted to keep our memories as those of a non-partisan group.”
To his credit the “Vote Green” signs do show up on his Flickr page. But why deny/hide the fact there were partisan persons there?
(Btw, for those outside the Province of Manitoba, the Winnipeg Free Press and CanWest (aka Global, co-founded by the late Izzy Asper, one time leader of the Liberal party in Manitoba) are known for being very Liberal friendly media outlets.)
So Noni Mausa, I’ve taken up your minor challenge, and proved you wrong.
Now my challenge to you, I defy you to tell me how this protest in Winnipeg and across Canada could be called non-partisan, when everywhere there were partisan signs and speakers, and organizers.
I’d say the protest was more back-room, than grass roots in nature.
