  1. Hey Kate, living here in Vancouver, I wouldn’t normally get to listen to Adler until the evening so instead I just tune into CJOB live or via their Audio Vault early in the afternoon. It was great hearing you on his show!
By the way, I did write Thomas Grandi, via his website, asking him why on earth he was playing into the hands of a large number of people in B.C. who don’t want the Olympics. I was polite and sincere. So far I have not received a response.

  2. “Shouldn’t these athletes be the first to jump into the volcano”.
I almost fell off my chair from laughing so hard.
    Great job Kate.

  3. Random info:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/12/opinion/12blow.html
“For those keeping political score, Democrats were almost twice as likely to believe in ghosts and to consult fortune-tellers than were Republicans, and the Democrats were 71 percent more likely to believe that they were in touch with the dead. Please hold the Barack-Obama-as-the-ghost-of-Jimmy-Carter jokes. Heard them all.
The report is further evidence that Americans continue to cobble together Mr. Potato Head-like spiritual identities from a hodgepodge of beliefs — bending dogmas to suit them instead of bending themselves to fit a dogma. And this appears to be leading to more spirituality, not less. Cue the harps, and the sitars, and the tablas, and the whale music. ”

The Special Olympics tone deafness line slayed. You slowed up Chuck (no small feat in and of itself) and you hung up first.
    A hat trick methinks.

  5. Hung up first?
Charles speaks highly of Kate. It’s obvious you don’t think much of Adler. Well, to each their own.

  6. I didn’t mean to hang up first. I thought we were finished, based on past experience with how he closes out his segments.
    🙂

  7. I agree, the Superintendents and the teachers should be taken to task.
Exposing the students to this crap is a crime.

  8. “I didn’t mean to hang up first. I thought we were finished, based on past experience with how he closes out his segments.
    :)”
That is how I interpreted it and it yes does happen a lot.

  9. …and sorry for the confusion I was making reference to Syncro’s view of Adler, not yours Kate.

  10. Sorry to go somewhat off topic, But CTV news had climate protests as front page news…accompanied by a big picture showing a protestor holding a sign saying “Save the planet, SCRAP CAPITALISM”. There were a number of comments made about this after the story and…oh look, the picture has changed now! Guess somebody didn’t like the previous one.
Apparently, greenpeace activists have been told to ‘thumbs down’ all the anti-AGW comments (or so says a commenter, FWIW).

Please allow me to elucidate. Adler tends to dictate the conversational thread with a specific direction in mind. It’s one of the skills that sets him apart from the pack….one could even say it’s his stock in trade.
IMHO Kate made her points clearly and succinctly without Chuck setting the agenda and she knew when to quit.
Kate has since indicated that she thought all that needed to be said had been said and in light of Chuck’s preferred style the last word would be his.
I simply pointed out that Kate seemed to anticipate the same and acted accordingly.
So in summation…I think Kate made a brilliant observation, Chuck played it for the maximum social and business benefit and Kate responded by signing off with authority.
    Win,win, win.
    Is that observation problematic?

  12. Kate, great little segment with Adler. I noticed that you made him him chuckle three times. Missed it yesterday as we were doing our thing for AGW by cutting our Christmas tree. However, we planted twenty-eight young trees last summer.
mark, I suspect that “thumbs down” comment is correct, as when you look at the comments regarding an article, it does not matter how ridiculous it is, there are a whole wack of thumbs down or up and suddenly they stop and the votes go back to normal stream.
I suspect that T is the type that would like to enforce the “one child” program.

  13. That was a very good interview, Kate. I am working on my older children to reverse the brainwashing. My daughter is dual American and votes Democratic, so I will have to explain how important it is to vote Republican in 2010. That will be my Christmas gift, not mittens.
I also like the follow-up electrician who talked to Adler about pollution in Beijing. It made me think about all those red mittens and how we can not afford to make them competitively in Canada. For my MBA, I worked with one of the two independent Canadian glove manufacturers. I was going to buy some red mittens as gifts, but it does not seem right any more.

  14. My kids are all out of school but a few weeks ago I looked at the book students use to get their GED. I was gobsmacked by the AGW propaganda contained therein. I told the would be graduate if she were short on time she should just skip reading the book and take note while she watches Al Gore’s movie.
This is what passes for a science education?!?!?!?

  15. I think there is an exponential increase in the amount of ‘do as I say not as I do’.
tq Eric L for the link to the Bartlett lecture wherever that was. anyway I bookmarked it and just finished the final part 8.

  16. Great job Kate! Slay those eco-nutjobs. You were spot on target and Adler obviously likes you and your point of view or he would not have had you on the show. Keep slugging, and we will keep supporting the right side.

  17. Global warming’s true cause is… dyslexia. Good thing they didn’t get the Nobel for Literature!

The UN panel on climate change warning that Himalayan glaciers could melt to a fifth of current levels by 2035 is wildly inaccurate, an academic says. J Graham Cogley, a professor at Ontario Trent University, says he believes the UN authors got the date from an earlier report wrong: they “misread 2350 as 2035”.

My kids are just starting out in school, so I’ll be keeping a close eye on text books as they progress through the grades. But, a few months back we took the boys to Science World in Vancouver. I was unpleasantly surprised to see a display explaining the theory of AGW as if it were gospel.

And, like most good little foot soldiers, retroactively at that.

  22. Good on you Kate – you commuincated the message with strength and the proper amount of reserve.

  23. Time to repent & worship in the Church of Climatology: surrender to the totalitarian fascist rule planned for all earth’s children to save the planet from C02 & global warming. Mother Earth desires human sacrifice. We have polluted her womb & she has no other choice but to abort us all. Unite people; our very existence depends on it. We must give up all our individual rights and live as one collective mind and body and be one with our Mother.
Let us begin by holding hands whilst singing Kumbuya to Mother Earth. Forgive us Mother Earth for we have sinned against you and deserve your punishment. Show us mercy and compassion. We petition you with this humble supplication: instead of closing your womb, open up that enormous ozone layer hole above Antarctica, so the greenhouse gases have somewhere to miraculously go again and then no longer a greenhouse we shall be. Allmen.

  24. Diane Francis has changed the One Child Policy article-merged it with some new, maybe old article. The link to the story via SDA is still there, but if you f5 to see comments, you are redirected and if you look under Diane Francis – that article is no longer there and neither are the comments. It has been replaced by a article entitled “Over Population The Inconvenient Truth’ where there are 108 comments, emails I mean, that she has posted with at least 90% in her favour – even a so called Christian saying they she with her but added the caveat that she thought Diane should be excluded and that Diane should breed even more because the world needs more people with her intellect. I know, and yes I am serious.
She is obviously trying hard to spin the favour in her direction – shameful. I also noticed questions like Kates – as to which one of her 2 children was she willing to sacrifice were notably absent.
P.S. I noted my email was not amoung those she chose to publish and to think I emailed her with in five minutes after reading the article just minutes after Kate posted it – December 10th 10:30am pacific time – all for nothing – informing her that she had been screwed by the Church of Climatology and was no longer a viable sacfrice for the volcano – mother earth god…not verbatim but almost.

Prosecuting these brigands will prove difficult—-they own the judge and can chose the jury….
This is why the torch/pitchfork method is so so necessary.
Where is Pinochet when we really need him?????

  26. sasquatch ,
Just re-read it and it really sums up how rational people should approach the subject . Trust is like virginity — easy to lose, hard to regain.

  27. I appreciated the ‘flu-mongering’ discussion as well (just before Kate on Adler). It was good to hear a public health official speaking out on the hype.

  28. I like to think of this as the ‘Bono Syndrome’. Whenever I hear twits like that using their celebrity to promote their personal beliefs, even to the point of demanding audiences with prime ministers, I find myself screaming at the newscast, “Get yourself elected, asshole, THEN give us a call!”
