  1. dp..the point I’m trying to make is that a plant eater (cow) will quite happily choose to eat flesh (her placenta). Not the sort of thing expected of a herbivore.
Just like Mother Natured hard wired some other species that they will eat their young..why??.. who knows.
Joe is correct…cows can and do kill their newborns. They pulverize them with their heads and toss them around like rag dolls. They only get to do it once mind you…
And yes…they will do the same to a human very easily.

  2. OK Glengarrian, understood. I met an old chap in Northern Alberta, who used to hunt on horseback. He hunted everything from moose to grizzly bear. I asked him if he ever had a problem with horses being spooked by the smell of blood. He said he’d had a couple of horses that tried to chew on the carcasses. I guess it goes to show, only people are dumb enough to be vegetarian by choice.

  3. dp & The Glengarrian I have witnessed many cows giving birth and although the cow will nibble on the expelled placenta I don’t recall any cow eating the entire thing. Most often the dog would drag a frozen one up to the back step for later snacking.
I do remember helping butcher a yearling where we shot and bled the animal in the herd. The old cows became so agitated we had to take the carcass out with a tractor. The cows remained, sniffing the blood for almost an hour.
