Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Barack Obama, 2008 – “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”
WV Metro News, 2009 – Governor Joe Manchin says he was once willing to give the Obama administration’s EPA the benefit of the doubt, but now the agency’s direction is clear when it comes to coal mining. “Right now, my belief is that they’re trying to kill off surface mining through regulation what they cannot get done through legislation,”

this has always been the real underlying problem with the left when in power. While they can have their big legislative objectives frustrated by the democratic process it is their ability to put sand in the gears of commerce through not new regulations, but strict, over-the-top enforcemtn of those that alreay exist. the EPA is only one example (and Nixon’s greatest doemestic policy mistake).
During the Carter years Joan Claybrook was the head of the EPA and she was a complete disaster. It can be argued (and I would somewhat agree) that under her reign the EPA administered the fatal serum to the domestic car industry.
“Governor Joe Manchin says he was once willing to give the Obama administration’s EPA the benefit of the doubt…”
When he sat staring adoringly at his tv set while Obama spoke, did he not listen to what he was saying? He should have been fighting tooth and nail against Obama not sitting back hoping things were going to work out ok.
There’s going to be an awful lot of angry unemployed people wanting to talk to him.
It doesn’t matter what new coal technology is out there, the eco-zealots have a mindset and a vision of Casey Jones shovelling coal into the smoking economic choo choo whenever that four letter word (coal) is mentioned. And don’t even mention nuclear.
Texas,
Casey Jones was an engineer not a stoker. Later on in life he became a cocaine addict who ended up dying in a head on collision because a switchman fell asleep. If you don’t believe me just listen to the Grateful Dead song about him.
And you just thought it was Lefties who make stuff up!
Um, Not stirred, who really gives a flying f*ck about Casey Jones. Bottom line is that lefties are so rock hard stupid that most of them are completely hideboud by ideology, no matter how disasterous the results. The American economy is close to a death spiral, one of the few competitive advantages they have is cheap electricity from coal. China is adding electrical capacity from coal at the rate of one new power plant a week. Each tonne of coal combustion stopped in the US is simply combusted in China instead, and the resultant jobs that flow from cheap electricity follow.
GHG emission reductions: Zero.
Damage to already teetering economy: Enormous.
The only bright side to this is that virtually all lefties who are employed are paid with dollars which were first beaten out of a taxpayer, as those become fewer and poorer, the money runs out, or the Obamidiot and his band of ivory tower morons print so much it is essentially worthless anyway, giving the same result. California writ large. Unemployment there at 12% and headed for 20% soon. Awful lot of useless emoting urban liberals at food banks there.
This nonsense will continue for a few years yet. The EPA will use its powers to save humanity from a a harmless gas found in microscopic amounts in our atmosphere until one day, somebody will flick the switch and the lights won’t go and people will die because they freeze to death in some brutal winter storm.
Windmills and solar panels won’t keep people alive.
not stirred enough – the wikipedia article on CJ doesn’t mention anything about cocaine, and says he was a teetotaler. I believe you’re correct about the switchman, but controversy will remain about the exact causation of the accident. It think there was a lot of CYA by the railroad, and blaming of Jones because he was dead anyways.
Peter, I agree, and I think a tremendous lack of common sense and rational thinking by those in power in the US are going to crush their country.
The decision makers need to deal with things are they really are, not as they misinterpret or dream them to be.
Obama can’t kill the republic and its economy all by himself. Who’s the ‘coal’ Czar?
For every regulatory assault on American culture and commerse there is an assigned Czar and a ‘relief Czar’ warming up in in the Czar bull pen.
Anyone convinced yet that the Holy O’s real agenda is to create a government-dependent citizenry in a banana republic?
Maybe we will soon have to ask former East Germans for tips in how to scrape by a living.

Ssshhh … O’QuietlyStealthy. Don’t waken Baby O’Peace Dividend.
O’s “an unannounced move” in O’s War. Quagmire.

“Obama quietly deploying 13000 more US troops to Afghanistan
President Barack Obama is quietly deploying an extra 13000 troops to Afghanistan, an unannounced move that is separate from a request by the US commander in the country for even more reinforcements”

OK I’ll relent on the Casey Jones thing and agree that Lefties are rock hard stupid.
The only positive in this is that North American coal reserves will not be depleted and when China runs out we’ll sell them ours for top dollar!
Peter, I give a FF about Casey Jones and I like to remember him the way The Man in Black sang about him. It was totally unnecessary of not-stirred-enough to bring up the facts, yes we know that he was an engineer and not a stoker; If indeed he was a user of cocaine, it’s superflous knowledge. Texas Canuck was using him in a poetic sense. It’s like that Geraldo a**hole who insisted on telling the world that Perry Como had another side to him. These people are iconoclasts who like “stirring” things up for no apparant reason.
How come the nucler industry isn’t doing the hard sell? Ask yourselves that question, they are the obvious benefactors of all this in the end, being the only viable altenative. Perhaps they know something.
Now you’re talking not-stirred-enough, King Coal will reign for many years yet.
I have never met anybody who thought the Dead song about Casey Jones was intended as accurate biography. It was a stoner joke and seems pretty weak now. I guess you had to be there, although I often regret I was.
As for the governor’s words, how could a collection of W VA politicians and union types be silly enough to support obozo in the first place? The state will pay a high price for their misplaced loyalty.
I remember bambam saying something to the effect of ‘you can build new coal plants but they will never open’ in a speech. Where the people that live where the coal is are supposed to go he never said.
Jeesh, sorry Casey Jones.Perhaps an image of stokers shoveling coal into the furnaces of the Titanic might be better.
Meanwhile, new technology has been announced to hydrocrack natural gas out of oil shales. Cheaply.
Obama is going to get cheap energy in the USA no matter how hard he tries to f- it up.
The sad thing about the US is that government regulation is seen as the solution to everything – sadly it will lead to decreased business viability, then failure, then state control of the too big to fail critical industries.
Which may be the goal in the first place.
Actually, not really “the goal” – the sad fact is that the US has lost their manufacturing base to China, probably never to return – those jobs are forever gone. So, with credit tightening, people will sit on their wallets, choking the service industry, leading to a “jobless recovery” – which means price inflation of goods and the stock market prices with increasing unemployment.
I’m sure that some in the US Gov are saying, well, we have to nationalize a lot of industries, otherwise we’re gonna circle the drain (even faster).
If they are going to stop producing their own power, I say, build a 6 petawatt reactor on the border, and sell it for the highest price possible. Coal, oil, gas, uranium; whatever your base load power fetish, Saskatchewan has got you covered.
And Bob, the nuclear industry is happy to let government regulate the price of coal higher and higher. The more expensive coal is, the fatter the margins on the nuclear side. I am beginning to believe that nuclear has had their hand in this from the beginning.
http://www.ag.ny.gov/media_center/2009/oct/oct9b_09.html
The EPA will be tied up until 2012…..California will go for the Big swim long before that time… Any day Now!
Of Course when the Magnetic Poles Reverse….We will need that COAL & wood & Oil for heat…
Not to worry… Sask is fine
I am beginning to believe that nuclear has had their hand in this from the beginning.
Agreed , if the cap and trade thing passes, nuclear becomes extra profitabe with the sale of clean carbon credits. Thet are waiting silently on the sidelines waiting to give the shaft to greens. Can’t wait!
“If they are going to stop producing their own power, I say, build a 6 petawatt reactor on the border, and sell it for the highest price possible. Coal, oil, gas, uranium; whatever your base load power fetish, Saskatchewan has got you covered.”
Ed Stelmach has that in mind already and he want’s to hurry the process up. However, the taxpayers and ratepayers of Alberta are going to pay for it through the nose through a closed door process that sees ratepayers rates rising to build power line capacity to ship (probably discounted power, too – guess who makes up the difference) power to the Pacific NW.
http://www.pnwer.org/Portals/0/Presentations/2008%20summit/Cost%20of%20not%20building%20transmission.pdf
Who benefits? In Alberta try Transalta and ALTALINK, the biggest coal fired power generator distributer in this province. Not only that, but Ed wants the taxpayer to fork out billions burying Transalta’s coal fired CO2 emissions in your backyard, supposedly to grovel to the green movement on emissions from the oil sands. Ed’s government gets to collect the money, hive off a “cut” for him and his smarty-pants AEUB buddies and provincial employees. The rate payers get the bill for it all.
I should be cheered by this as I own Transalta shares, but more than likely the CEO will give himself a big fat bonus and leave shareholders sucking on a cheap dividend. I think I’ll write my MLA about this “government picking winners thingy” and taxpayers paying for it.
Oh, almost forgot: Ed’s government is considering adding nuclear to the”power mix”, but then who might be the fingered outfit to bring us those cost over-runs? Transalta, the owners of Bruce Power in Ontario.
Makes a guy go hmmmmmmm!
To those who think that nuclear is either behind this or stands to benefit from it, where exactly are any new reactors being built. Maybe I missed it but I’m not aware of any, nor given the litigiousness of the enviros are we likely to see any. Sorry, but rather than some hidden grand master plan, I see them driving the car off a cliff.
I’m just saying Nuclear is the obvious immediate solution the the “CO2 is bad argument” and I think it is being undersold, underpromoted and underdiscussed. The silence is deafening.
Erik, the biggest misconception around is that anything is “too big to fail”. Everything fails eventually.
bob;
I absolutely agree with you that nuclear is the way to go. It’s just that that has been true for decades and it hasn’t mattered. The enviro loonies don’t want oil, coal or nuclear. No reactors have been built, no licences for offshore drilling etc etc.
So who will Obama bankrupt when voters realise “greener” forms of energy are inefficient?
He wants to bankrupt people. He is no better than a common thief.
PS: If you want a bulb that lasts, use a traffic lamp bulb. They are clear, and they come in odd numbers. (Ex: 67, 69 or 115 watt.) They last forever. Another good buy is an incandescent “rough service” 50 watt bulb used by mechanics in trouble lights. They last forever, especially for a porch light or garage where the banging and slamming of the door will weaken the element.
Eventually, the few remaining saner heads in Ontario and a number of US states will realize that more wind (and other “renewable” energy) projects are simply not going to provide the energy security and reliability their economies require. They will realize that if they want to have adequate energy and still maintain their carbon delusions, that nuclear is the only answer. The lead time for planning and construction of nuclear plants is well in excess of ten years. Thus, a number of these jurisdictions are going to be facing the threat of energy shortages and possible rationing, along with erosion of whatever industrial base they have remaining.
Of course, by that time, the greenbots like Furious George Smitherman and Obama’s environment “czars” who created this mess, will all be beyond accountability. It would be much better to dump them hard at the first available opportunity.
Moe Strong said it clear enough for anyone…
“The only chance for humanity is the destruction of the western industrial economy.” (or words to the effect)
There is no doubt that this is the agenda.
CO2 AGW is just the tool to destroy us.
Plain and simple, the COLD WAR is not over.
Peter 11:25 said, “GHG emission reductions: Zero.
Damage to already teetering economy: Enormous.”
This is exactly what will happen when Canada adopts the Cap & Trade that the US is promoting.
This is a dangerous stance that the Cons are going to impose on Canada. Billions will flow out of Canada and Koyto will seem small in compairson. (They already baned a Polar bear expert out of meetings by saying the bears are doing fine and that Global Warming is not a factor.) IF – big if – this happens, then watch Canadians treat the Cons like the LIEberals on their Green Shift Tax … lose all credibility on the enviroment. I think the Cons are in denial of the facts but don’t want to say publicaly that they know it is just a money grab. (Well at least China will buy our coal.)
I was in Peace River area doing a show, wow, you should see the fear-mongering going on by the enviroMENTALists. The construction of a nuclear plant is hard with these guys.

“Obama Blames Bush for 13,000 New Troops in Afghanistan
The Obama administration blamed President George W. Bush for 13,000 new support troops headed to Afghanistan, even though Bush has not been commander-in-chief for nearly ten months.
The Washington Post had a front page story this morning saying Barack Obama had authorized the troops in addition to the 21,000 increase in combat troops he ordered in March.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters today, according to the AP, that President Bush, who left office 276 days ago, was to blame for the latest troop increase:
Later, spokesman Robert Gibbs rejected a published report that the president had authorized 13,000 additional troops that were now arriving in Afghanistan. He said those troops were part of a deployment ordered by the former Bush administration, but had not made their way to the Afghan theater by the time Obama became president. The Washington Post had reported those forces were authorized by Obama.”

Exactly!!!!! Notice all these would be saviors of the environment plus the Islamics all have in common besides the color green?
All American industry must be destroyed. Thus stopping any war capacity.

At least Obama didn’t lie ~~ he claimed he would do this ~ why are you surprised?

Wrong.. The above Quote was made by Joe Biden… and Obama denied it was true. YES Obama lied
Do you feel like a shit house rat?
