Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle

And the amount of evidence offered by your superstition over that of any other, Joe? Not a single solitary thing. So, maybe it’s just that you “really, honestly truly BELIEVE” your superstition, while those who believe other superstitions don’t believe theirs quite as much? Nope; according to them, you’re just as “bound for eternal damnation” as I am, and since neither of you have any actual EVIDENCE (there’s that inconvenient word again) for what you believe, it looks like a draw to me. There is as much concrete evidence that a giant purple bunny rabbit created the universe as there is that your imaginary “god” did (ie. none), yet despite that lack of evidence, you are as much of a slave to your superstition as the Muslims, or the Mormoms, or the Scientologists, or the witch doctors are to theirs. The best argument I’ve seen against most religions (including yours) is to closely read what they consider to be “holy”, and having read your little magic book has convinced me that if there WAS a “god”, he, she, or it would have to be either insane or evil, and therefore unworthy of either belief or worship.
Now there you go projecting again SDC. Guess what you’re still wrong! There is thousands of years of evidence. Not that you really care because because your mind is made up and closed to anything but that which the society you live in tells you is true. Kinda pitiful when you look at it. But since you have determined that nothing beyond your physical senses exist I shall leave you to your folly. Should you desire to lift your snout from the slop trough let me know.
What happened to your “god” during that last experiment, Joe? I gave him his chance, and nothing happened, so now it’s the Great Box of Instant Mashed Potatoes turn; I’ll let you know how that turns out too 😉
SDC nice dodge too bad you’re still wrong. The Eternal is not bound by time constraints and thus while He didn’t answer you in the immediate doesn’t mean that He won’t answer you in the future. You really need to get out of your human centred universe and open yourself to Reality.
In other words, Joe, the only thing separating your “god” from pure imagination is your delusion that he/she/it exists; that’s one heck of a belief system you’ve got there; based on nothing, with no evidence to support it, and yet it STILL finds hordes of people so desperate to avoid the thought that they’re not immortal that they’ll line up to get sucked in. Once upon a time I wondered how cults could seem to find a never-ending supply of gullible dolts that would be willing to believe their nonsense, but I’ve come to realize that they don’t do anything that any other religion doesn’t also do.
But SDC you are still wrong. The evidence is all around you. All you need to do is open your eyes! Of course you don’t want to do that because that would require your admission that you don’t know it all.
and since neither of you have any actual EVIDENCE (there’s that inconvenient word again) for what you believe…
Or you are unable to understand it, like a kid in kindergarten is unable to understand higher mathmatics. There’s always that possibility…and then some are blinded for their own good…that’s scriptural.
Just imagine!! The great SDC snaps his fingers and the Powers that rule just shudder! “Give me proof right now or I ain’t gonna be nice you you anymore!!” Sounds a bit like a kid who’s having his diaper changed and he’s yelling at his mother because he doesn’t like the way she’s wiping his butt!
Hey, what more do you want? Should I just take your WORD for it that this imaginary friend of yours exists? If I’m willing to do that, why shouldn’t I do the same for every OTHER imaginary friend that has ever been made up? If the “Powers that be” actually EXISTED, and he/she/it/they actually cared what I thought, why wouldn’t they reveal themself/themselves to me in no uncertain terms? Since this hasn’t been done, there is absolutely no reason for me to kowtow to something that, in all likelihood, doesn’t even EXIST, any more than there’s any reason for me to kowtow to any of the OTHER “gods” that you or your delusional fellow travellers have dreamt up. And, Joe, I’m perfectly willing to admit that I don’t “know it all”; that’s the basis of the scientific method (as opposed to the religious method, which says “this is the way it is, lack of evidence or the existence of evidence to the contrary be damned”). Once upon a time, your ilk sat huddled in caves, and every time they wondered about something that they couldn’t explain, the natural “explanation’ that came to them was “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Lightning? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Bad weather? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Earthquakes? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Diseases? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Moving lights in the sky? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” Why are we here? “Well, an invisible magic man in the sky done it.” And so on and so forth. And as science has shown each one of these “explanations” to be the booshwah it is, your imaginary “god” retreats further and further back behind a further set of goalposts. I am a conservative first and foremost because I value rationality and consistency, two things which religion (ALL religions, BTW, not just your particular chosen one) has shown a remarkable lack of.
Well SDC when I was in elementary school we had to prove that moistening kernels of wheat would cause them to sprout. I found some wheat kernels and placed them between some moistened cloths and kept some dry. A minute later the moistened seeds hadn’t changed. My conclusion, moisture doesn’t cause seeds to sprout. Was I correct. An hour later I had the same results and the same conclusion. The next day the seeds looked a bit bigger than the dry ones but I still had the same conclusion. Several days later there were green sprouts coming from the moistened kernels but the dry kernels had not changed.
You know the more I think about it the more my experiment reminds me of you. Barely into the experiment you have reached a conclusion. And you think you have a scientific outlook.
Joe … you keep using the word “evidence” …. I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
I’ve got an experiment for you: I know for a fact that all humans can fly, unaided. I’ve seen the evidence – there are thousands of years worth of it. In order for you to test it, you must really, really, really believe that you can fly, and then throw yourself off of a big building. If it doesn’t work it just means that you haven’t tried hard enough, or that it’s not your time yet. When the casts and bandages come off, make sure you try again.
Atheists are like leftists, think fallible beings can come to infallible conclusions.
Being incapable of logic, they worship logic.
Joe, if your imaginary “god” needs 2000 years plus to provide indisputable proof of his/her/its/their existence, that tells me that they’re not all they’re cracked up to be; in fact, so far, your “god” hasn’t shown any more evidence of THEIR existence than any OTHER “god” throughout history, and your little magic book has so many inconsistencies that I’m unable to believe that any “being” that could somehow create the universe could be in any way responsible for it. That leaves you in exactly the same place as the followers of any other superstition throughout history; while I am perfectly willing to look at any evidence that may be available, your superstition has fallen so far short in that regard that it’s laughable.
WT…?
Now that’s funny Alex. Did you realize you just used one of the temptations of Jesus?
In answer to your foolishness I wouldn’t jump off any building because someone told me I could fly nor did I become a Christian because someone so told me. I became a Christian after a personal encounter with the Divine. I have been maintained in that belief by repeated encounters with the Divine.
What really interests me Alex is why you would try to tempt me with jumping off a building then equating becoming a Christian to certain bodily injury if not death. Have you been dabbling in the occult?
SDC: Your screeds are becoming more and more ridiculous. I could get a thousand people to all testify to the veracity of what I said and you still wouldn’t believe it. That you don’t understand the Bible doesn’t surprise me. You are missing a vital part. But then I don’t expect you to understand that either. Thus I leave you to enjoy your unbelief. Don’t be surprised though if some day when you least expect it that you find out that what I tell you is actually true. It happened to me.
What an interesting thread for a weekend.
Humans debating whether a diety exists from a plane of consciousness which in turn is a mystery and unknowable to us humans.
Mary Baker Eddy in the 1800’s seemingly had an insight into that mystery and produced a book on the subject.
Courage of her convictions, I suppose.
What if she was correct, eh?
“I became a Christian after a personal encounter with the Divine.”
Yeah, I hear ya. LSD’s a hell of a drug.
Carry on then. I can’t argue with a belief based on “personal revelation” because I have no way of examining such claims. In the same vein, you shouldn’t expect to change anyone’s mind based on an experience that occurred inside your head. I don’t know why you bother speaking about it – we can’t possibly exchange information if you’re going to use a hallucination as your source of information.
Hey Joe – I got your back on this one but remember one thing – the longer you continue to argue with an idiot the more difficult it is for the casual observer to determine who is who.
Time to say so-long to SDC.
Well, Joe, you know in order to believe that superstition “X” is the only TRUE religion, all you need to do is really, truly BELIEVE; that goes for every superstition, not just yours, so what is it that you think that puts your superstition somehow over and above all the others? YOUR “faith” is no more evidence for the veracity of your superstition than a Mormon’s “faith” is evidence for the veracity of their superstition, or a Muslim’s “faith” is evidence for the veracity of their superstition, or a Scientologist’s “faith” is evidence for the veracity of their superstition. For my part, I prefer to believe as many true things as possible, and disbelieve as many false things as possible, and the only way we as humans have to distinguish one from the other is scientific investigation.
Yeah I agree a different bob. Its hard to discuss science with an non-scientist whose only argument is, “It is not”.
So Alex in what part of the occult did you partake.
Joe – kind of reminds me of the Monty Python skit where you pay $5 for an argument. Right then – I want my argument! You didn’t pay the $5! Yes I did! No you didn’t!
Yes, I did! No you……….well you know how it goes from there.
Silly Joe. The occult is just another form of religion. It goes hand in hand with your fairy-tales, but has no meaning in the rational world.
Was I right on the LSD guess, or did you take some other type of hallucinogenic substance?
Joe – you’ll get a whole lot more enjoyment taking in the Jets – Cowboys game on TV right now than you will in a month of Sundays trying to debate and enlighten the likes of SDC and Alex. I like the Cowboys – how about you Joe?
Being perfectly honest Alex I have never used any kind of hallucinogenic substance. Oh by the way partaking in occult does not mean practice the occult as a religion. Sometimes people play on the fringes completely unaware of what they just did to themselves.
Well a different bob I cheer for any team that isn’t New York or Toronto. I watched the Blue Jays play the Yankees and deep in my heart of hearts I wished they both would lose.
“Sometimes people play on the fringes completely unaware of what they just did to themselves.”
lol. You’re truly a special case, Joe 🙂 You take care now. I’ll sacrifice a goat for you.
Did you know that goat sacrifice is another occult practice Alex? The plot thickens.
Well I had to work the Sabbath and then attend an evening Mass, and come home to this. Joe’s arguments are spectacular, and of course there is so much evidence for the existence of a God, a miraculous God, that it would be impossible to list them all here, or in thousands of libraries. There are none so blind as those who will not see. Congrats Kate, you continue to turn off supporters by your insensitivity to personal faith, be they Muslim,. Christian or Jew. None of these have a problem with disbelief, but I think most of them deserve some respect for their inner-most feelings, which for the most part are charitable towards those who disagree.
It never ceases to amaze me that this site can generate 80 plus comments through the mere posting of an asterisk.
Kate – are you dissing your commentators or just what is your point? Don’t keep us hanging here. Does that mean that every time you post something with an asterisk we should ignore it and just go on our merry way.
WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOUR MOST RECENT COMMENT???
As an aside, Larry – you use the word “supporters” as though there is some goal or ambition attached to what I do here.
There isn’t.
The fact that something I write or link to may offend you is simply the price of admission.
“As an aside, Larry – you use the word “supporters” as though there is some goal or ambition attached to what I do here.
There isn’t.”
More is the pity.
SDA is a beacon of fresh air (including asterisks) in this country of slobbering leftist media.
One can only imagine what Kate could do for an hour on CBC instead of Georges “HOUR”, lets say!
Oh come on Kate, you know your commentators can post 100 comments about a blank page!
BTW thanks
Sigh; It’s all about a kind of naughty girl syndrome. While women are the backbone of the Church and the ones who do most to keep the family together they do have another side. Eve it was, we are told (those of us who believe) who tempted Adam into eating of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, but it was Adam who had to work for the rest of his life. Eve just had to put up with a few menstrual cramps – oh, and the pains of child-
birth.
Hey, even with a post like this. Your still the “cats ass”. (O:}
Urban Dictionary:
A person, thing or event to be held in high regard. From the meticulous treatment and devotional attention a feline bestows on its hindquarters. Not in wide usage.
You look that good and can cook too? Damn if you ain’t about the cats ass!
For the record, the Jets do not play the Cowboys this year.
Larry Bennett @11:23 – that makes Adam seem kind of weak-willed, passive, incurious, fickle, easily lead and thick, doesn’t it?
But yes, you are wise to be cautious. Kate is using her wiles to try to tempt you into laughing at a picture of a cat’s bum.
If there’s one thing film noir has taught me, Larry, it’s never trust a frail.
RE: Kate at 10:28. Oh there’s ambition there, plenty of it. This is beginning to sound Faustian.
Genesis: …and we shall be as God… The price of admission is getting unconscionably high. I’m not sure I want to pay that price. As you suggest there are other choices, or I could decide to stay and torment you.
Larry – “…or I could decide to stay and torment you.” – that’s rather devilish of you.
I have no intention of taking anyone to the Human Rights Commission for this tasteless depiction of the G*d that I worship.
