Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“Up to two million march to US Capitol to protest against Obama’s spending in ‘tea-party’ demonstration
Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.
The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.
People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.”

BTW, ET, what subsidy for forestry in BC? And which “people who work” get subsidized??
Rural Canada votes conservative…just look at any electoral map. Most farmers collect welfare. Just look at any provincial or federal budget. Most farmers vote Conservative. Rural conservative welfare bums. It is what it is.
Posted by: philboy at September 12, 2009 7:04 PM
Thanks for straightening something out for me, pillboy. Take out “farmers” and you have just described Tarana,Ottawa,Que,NB,NS,and PEI. All bastions of lefturd socialists/separtistes AND welfare bums. Now I know how they got that way!
See guys/gals. Retarded(no offense to the true mentally handicapped)socialist trolls can sometimes serve as more than just useful idiots!
On CBC (they actually covered this story), Susan Bonner referred to the protesters as “conservatives.” She said this more than once. Typical CBC reporting.
Lie of the week seems to be something like this:
Obama:
If you oppose my plan, you want to do nothing, and you have no plan.
In order for this to be successful, you’d have to have a complicit media ignoring more free market based and root cause based reforms, such as:
tort reform
insurance portability
opening state borders to increase ins. co. competition
“When will Canadians take to the streets and protest corruption, high taxes and excessive government? When?
Posted by: Brad at September 12, 2009 7:25 PM ”
Brad, do not dispair!!! I am positive the worthy allies of ACORN (Canuckistan),the NDP,Friends of Medicare, all the health board bureaucrats, unions, etc are planning a rally to kill our socialistic system right now! You just know how much they care about us and our health. Just ask them.
philboy – your insults and repeats of inanities aren’t an intelligent way to debate. Provide facts.
Aren’t you aware that forestry cutting stumpage fees are subsidies. Why do you think the US was imposing tariffs on that softwood lumber?
No farmer collects welfare. A subsidy is not welfare. Try to get your head around that fact. Welfare is given only if you do not work; a subsidy or grant is given only if you DO work. Try to understand the difference between working and not working. OK?
You really are astonishingly ignorant about this; how can anyone say that a subsidy/grant is comparable to welfare. Whew.
Dairy farms in Quebec are subsidized; hog farmers are subsidized, for example, providing financial assistance for vaccination; grain producers are subsidized..far less than in Europe and the US, but, they are; there are grants to offset capital costs for new equipment; grants to develop new farm businesses – ever heard of the Agri-Opportunities Program?
Oh – have you noticed that all of this requires WORK? Hmm. But you still don’t know the difference between WORK and NO WORK. Ah well.
No bleet, the Tea Parties were not organized by ONE person but by many, many people, and included Americans of all types. Don’t sneer at dissent, bleet; don’t denigrate opposition. And don’t accept an obviously biased LA Times description of someone (cholesteral..dear god..) as evidence of the validity/non-validity of a political movement.
Oh? What’s wrong with saying ‘Bury Obamacare with Ted Kennedy’? Why isn’t that a rational opinion? And if someone compares Pelosi to a Nazi, well, that’s because she viewed dissent with contempt, and used those terms herself, as well as ‘astroturf’ and ‘unAmerican’. As for comparing Obama to Hitler, that’s an opinion; just as it was done to Bush. So?
Oh, bleet, you are ignoring all the other signs, in your rejection of any and all who reject Obama’s style of governance. You are ignoring the signs that declared: Stop the Spending; Stop Cap and Trade: Small Government: No socialized Health Care…but..I guess, bleet, you have an agenda rather similar to that of Obama. You refuse to acknowledge the right of people to disagree. When someone does, you attack them as ‘idiots’, as ‘non-rational’.
Erik Larsen – yes, Obama is a polarizer. That’s part of his strategy: divide and conquer, so to speak. As a pathological narcissist, his way is the only way, and he has to feel that you are in his control..otherwise..he feels threatened. It’s incredible how he has polarized the nation; by party, by race, by profession!
bleet – your ‘statistical probability’ is irrelevant. This man wasn’t a statistic. And your suppositions about what he feels and knows are rubbish.
You cannot, logically, say that IF someone dislikes socialized health care, THEN this means that he ‘wants to deny some poor kid the same satisfactory health care he receives’. That has to be one of the most illogical IF-THEN statements I’ve seen in a long while.
Now, how about answering my questions, and providing some evidence for your insults about the people who went to these anti-Big Government demonstrations.
CTV News is now reporting that “as many as 75,000” people showed up in Washington. All the shots provided showed fairly sparse crowds, with no dramatic overhead shots.
They went on to cover the Obama rally in Minnesota with noisy and boisterous scenes.
I’m off to Michelle Malkin’s to see the news!
ET, one extremely dangerous thing about Obama (and there are some other concerning features) is that his polarization is going to make having a happy and harmonic US a very slow heal.
I’ve never been so despondent about the future of the US.
Economically, I’m very concerned too. If I was in the Chinese government listening to Obama and his massive spending plans for health care, I’d be pretty worried about the fact that I have to buy even *more* US bonds to keep the country upright, and further safeguard my already heavy ownership of US debt.
75,000? I’ve seen reports as high as 2 million people. And not just from Fox.
CBC got it WRONG again.
I saw some of this on the television. Fox news channel was covering it but nowhere else at the time.
Glenn Beck made an excellent point that the big problem today is corruption. The more government we have, the more the opportunity for corruption too. There is a need for character the USA. The people seem to be doing fine, but as soon as you get into government the quality lowers.
My challenge for this day.
Remember back at the inauguration of President Obama. The aftermath photograph which Kate posted on the 21st of January showed the beautiful debris from the big celebration. I thought it looked like the trash scenes at the end of the Woodstock movie.
So what is it going to look like after all these 912 people leave? I bet it will be much cleaner, and I do pray that I am right. It would be a bit of a bad showing on their part if they leave an equivalent mess, as these are people who care about what America really is supposed to be.
Philboy, bleetingtons etc. – look at it this way: ALL Canadians are recipients – and, if they pay taxes, financers – of socialized healthcare – just like those American oldies you were disparaging.
So your logic is what… because it’s been forced on us/them, we’re/they’re not allowed to protest it?
I saw this picture in above comment then suddenly I could imagine if sep 11 was really all people in early morning in 9 am must all people for work they were working in office
then all must jump come out office by hearing that noise and picture of all come out of office msut be look like above picture while photo showed in FOX the number scerma was very little incomere of real number was working and they must moer screaming like king Kong movies
while we saw less people in building died in compare of in building of twin tower can cover more than 58000 per each building could working in that time.
Therefore knowing each building cover
58000 people such as twin tower,
We must expect at least 1 million people work in down town New York and all knew about this accident and some was missing to get the news
Are all 3000 died?
And 430 fire fighters went to stop the fire and demolition from far put plug in and all are gone
This is proof more conspiracy that they know it is going to some thing happened but not knows the detail
USA is long way to go to civilized country method and I am sorry for American
But they must first unite to change their society first before do next steps.
And must all people who open this matter can calm down
We understand there might be some anger seen in Arab in Palestine or Afghanistan (Saudi, Yemen and Dubai) and Iran
If you want to made Afghanistan and Iran quiet made Azerbaijan and Afghanistan with Shai government to reduce abuse of Iran power to their own people
And cut the Wahabi from Afghanistan since Wahabi hate shai and only person can get rid wahai are Shia
Both can get punished and Saudi for send sheikh or Palestine and India with Wahabi idea
How we can stop Palestine Arab
By building of more than 200 big high rise in Palestine and Israel to cover all people for live and for building for work

“75,000? I’ve seen reports as high as 2 million people. And not just from Fox.
CBC got it WRONG again.”
They didn’t get it ‘wrong’ – they know what they’re doing. Good little MSM’ers
CBC is quoting the wire services, which like NY Slimes and Warshington Poost are saing “tens of thousands”.
Daily Mail is saying 2 million, which is probably a better estimate. Fox will no doubt have their own numbers soon, or may already.
Remember the first couple of Tea Parties? They were -completely- ignored by the MSM, you only heard about it on the web or on talk radio.
This propaganda war is heating up. Two million people show up in DC and the MSM flat out lies about it? That’s Soviet style. They are going all out, and soon will have nothing left.
Odd how the NYT headline describes the march as having “thousands” of attendees, while The Daily Mail says “Up to two million”.
Key final grafs from a fox news report:
The White House on Friday claimed it was unaware of the planned rally.
“I don’t know who the group is,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters with a shrug.
But a House leadership aide warned fellow Democrats that up to 2 million demonstrators could turn out.
“It looks like Saturday’s event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people,” Doug Thornell, an aide to Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., wrote in a memo obtained by FOXNews.com.
But conservatives believe the memo is ploy to inflate expectations for the turnout anticipating that it will fall short.
“It’s an old political tactic to get out in front and make wild projections and when they’re not met, claim their opponents don’t have the juice,” said Pete Sepp, a spokesman for the National Taxpayers Union, one of the organizers of the rally.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/12/tea-party-express-arrives-march-washington-protest-government-spending/
I got there late, but I would say that two million is way too high, one million is way too high and “thousands” is way too low. “Tens of thousands” to somewhere in the six figures is probably about what it was.
This is all just getting started. There is a lot of anger at “big govment” out there.
Bout time.
they will identify them to hit them later
the best thing both politican work together or wait until they got majority again
if they go to street with that population must get permsion by police for security purpose of all number of people are so many
The White House shows its utter arrogance, by its disdain, its contempt for the American people – refusing to acknowledge them, refusing to recognize that they’ve turned out, in the millions, all over America, to protest Obama and the Democrat’s socialist agenda.
The first Tea Parties? The WH and Obama totally ignored them and pretended they didn’t exist. Finally, they acknowledged them but only with disdain, calling them ‘radicals’, ‘tea-baggers’, racists.
These Tea Parties? The same – refusing to recognize them, refusing to acknowledge the hundreds of thousands in Washington..making sure that they sent Obama elsewhere to a carefully staged Obama-Love-In.
I don’t think this strategy, an Obama strategy of not recognizing people whom you cannot control, will work. I think that the Democrats had better rethink this grassroots rising. Calling them names and insults, calling them racists..as did several Democrat members of the Congress..won’t work. You can’t make Americans go away by such tactics.
If Congress continues to ignore and reject the American people…they’ll find themselves out of a job very soon.
I haven’t seen the picture yet that tells me that it was a million people or more. Time will tell.
In method of choose president with majority and close election taht both still lot of number were republican
how do you expect that both parties are agreed with each other opinion
and for each different opionion
how peopel can react wtih it
one to say htier voice or go to walk peacfull demonstration
while tehy can scream as they want
still majority are not with them
unless for each idea importatn for Amercian
made new election as well
it means
for so many disagreement over health care
they need new vot from people to see what they said or let their parlemetn fight it
these method are going to go wrong nd danger
never group can get some ting unless go to
long strike out of it
like Canda garbage to get their wished for bother all citizen they may win it but majority are lost to bring garbge not under control
the systme of capiltalism
are built this system
and they temselve can not control or made it peacfull way
or find any happy ended story at all
manging all differnet idea are not easy for any presidetn or prime minster
we saw worst in Iran oppostion fight
we saw in garbage trick strik for over month in Canda
this is not practicall right path to resolve thier differnces find new method
just think more less hate and better productive way
in D.C. CNN is conducting an interview, while the protesters chant “Glenn Beck Glenn Beck” …. Go to 1.50 in the video clip…

Ask one mathematician can help you well knowing some fact even by look at picture can find
The approximately you can find out the number of how many million people participate today
Know length area of street they are in and
Like Google map you know the size of street
And
Then put few people jam together / per in one area such as 1 x 1 m square such we have 15 was stay in that area
Then you find out how many approximately people are coming to that strike walking day
this is old fashion way can we go new way to resolve our differnces by scream less and let heart get closer more to able to hear thier voice more
they must work in team work and US are not like changes at all they like to stay in old fashion way but new method can bring them happy or made them more aggresive as we see them
nobody lik to change easy for benefit of others
Global News tried to report it as a ho-hum, run-of-the-mill tax protest. Little clarification of what it was really all about, no commentary.
“Gotta ask another question: does any one know welfare bums that claim to be conservative? In my neck of the woods they vote ABC.”
In my neck of the woods, they all vote NDP. And for good reason. The NDP will take care of them from cradle to grave and loudly proclaim this at every opportunity. Despicable behaviour … but good politics if you want to appeal to a certain segment of society.
As for philboy … anyone who can’t differentiate between “welfare” and “subsidy” is not worth a response. I choose to ignore bleet’s sage advice on debating and will go on record as agreeing completely with gord’s description of philboy as a “demic”.
GreyOne40 at September 12, 2009 8:46 PM….found this at Instapudit….”Meanwhile, a reader emails: “I’ll tell you what I find impressive. I’m watching the Fox news video about 15 minutes after the end of the event. The crowd has thinned out enough that you can see the ground and there is not a speck of trash on the grass. Absolutely clean. To contrast, google ‘pictures of litter on the mall after the inauguration.’”
Plus check out some of the pics he has up!!!Well worth the look.Kate has the link.
I am retired and keep the medical coverage I had when I worked. This is in Canada where we have no two tiered health care. I keep it because I can afford it though I don’t use it and it will help recover any future hospital and drug costs. Is Blue Cross illegal in Canada..no it isn’t. The senior in question may also have his own insurance and he could have better health care because of it. What he may not want is the health care in the VA and the native population where the US saying is ‘ don’t get sick after June’ because there is no money. Natives have died because the gov’t plan is out of money. I recently read of a native woman that was given emergency care due to a heart attack, Taped to her leg during the transfer was a letter stating there was no money for treatment.
ET:
It’s time for you to grow up and quit feeding the troll.
Interesting times… The problem for Obama is that normally hard-working people are now unemployed. Normally they would grumble under their breath about the state of the nation, but now they actually have time to make their voices heard. Think of them as “community organizers” but of a different stripe.
This OBOZO administration reminds me of the regime of Louis on the eve of the storming of the Bastille……..
As a Canadian—I always realize americans are revolting people….commendable……
“Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the group that organized the event, said on stage at the rally that ABC News was reporting that 1 million to 1.5 million people were in attendance.
At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as “tens of thousands.”
-ABC News.
Awwww, heck! 🙂
So what is it going to look like after all these 912 people leave? I bet it will be much cleaner, and I do pray that I am right. It would be a bit of a bad showing on their part if they leave an equivalent mess, as these are people who care about what America really is supposed to be.
I used to live in DC and still have friends there. One emailed me tonight and told me the Tea Party people had left the mall neat as a pin. She was amazed. She said it was left an absolute pig sty after the crowning of King Barry in January, and after all the anti-war protests. I remember trash left all over the streets after Gulf I protests.
I’m not surprised. The Tea Party people are responsible adults and citizens. Spoiled, entitled leftists are used to mucking up whatever they touch and leaving someone else to clean up their messes.
Interesting, though, that the “environmentalist” party is the one with the slobs and litterbugs.
I guess you are right sarge. An “unofficial estimate” from the DC fire department trumps my lying eyes every time.
Incidentally, if everyone would hit refresh when their post doesn’t appear, like just happened with mine, there would be a lot fewer double posts.

“Conservative Woodstock Rocks the Capital
Patriotic anti-big-government taxpayers blast through the 2 million protester mark.
September 12, 2009, Washington, D.C.
ABC News reports that two million Americans flooded D.C. in what people in the crowd were calling “a conservative Woodstock” Like the liberal Woodstock of the ’60s, thousands were rumored stranded on freeways. Some walked in to DC, ditching their cars and busses. I walked with a 5 deep 6 block long column of protesters from Pennsylvania Avenue who had walked miles from where they had to leave their busses. Networks including Fox News continued through the time I’m writing this at 8 p.m. local Eastern time reporting that “tens of thousands” showed up. Whasup with that? When will we get some reliable reporting out of the corporate media types?
This event had been promoted as a taxpayer “tea party” but the crowd’s concerns wide ranging, from outrage at ACORN and Obama’s socialist cadre known as Czars, to Obama’s untruthfulness. Protesters also displayed signs mocking Nancy Pelosi and others for smearing the grassroots movement as “astroturfers” and as an angry mob.
I think this gathering should be appreciated as the extremely important historical event that it is. This is the first great conservative anti-statist manifestation in American history. The conservative movement, which developed in the post-WWII, Cold War environment has now fully matured into the most significant political movement of the 21st century. I believe that this day could be referred to in the not too distant future as the day that changed America. This was the day the great silent conservative majority finally found its voice.
Many of the attendees were quite meek and timid and were unsure of exactly what to expect, this being the first time in their lives they’d been involved in a protest movement. Their fears evaporated early in the day and I saw people reveling in the camaraderie , the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event. Chants of “Freedom, freedom, freedom”, “No more czars! No more czars!” carried through the air without the slightest hint of rancor or unpleasantness.”
http://www.lookingattheleft.com/2009/09/conservative-woodstock-rocks-the-capital/
“No more czars!”
The chant heard ’round the world?!
Caution, boring stuff to follow:
(Distances from Google Earth, as much as I hate to use anything w/ Google on it, it is a handy tool)
Street in picture is approximately one mile long by 125 ft wide. I guesstimate an extra 10% traveled along the walks. Area would be 5280X125=660000 sq ft. Allowing for the street to fill and empty twice and using 10 sq ft per person that is only about 145,000 folks. There were, however, people who chose to not march who probably filtered in from other directions or arrived late. I think the ‘others’ could be as much as 50% or so of the marchers.
My guess is 200,000 to 250,000 realistic with 300,000 as a high side. Obama’s January 20 deal was supposedly a million personas, but probably it was similar in size to this event. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great to see Americans exercising their rights like this, I just like to use realistic figures.
The numbers come out the same if you use the Frankish derived units so popular these days. “Ppeople” can be SI or traditional units, I suppose.
maz2, thanks for that at 7:22am. “Their fears evaporated early in the day and I saw people reveling in the camaraderie , the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event.”
This was the experience I had when I moved from New York state to Arizona and Minnesota. In NY I felt besieged, anyone I talked to was a freaky Lefty except at the gun store. I couldn’t talk to anyone.
In Arizona -nobody- was a freaky Lefty except Ivory Tower types and some in the medical biz. In Minnesota even the doctors were gun collectors and hunters, the only Lefties were penned up in the university. Everybody agreed with ME!
The weight off my shoulders was incredible, it felt like ten years of suffering falling away.
Same thing happened last year when I left Hamilton/Ancaster for the country. Everybody agrees with me around here, and I find that the farther you get from Toronto the more sensible and courteous people become.
Ricardo,
While I agree that the still picture is about 150K people, you will note that the actual crowd was not still, but marched on for some time, moving, so you need to figure that into your count.
Over at Vodkapundit – “I did a back-of-envelope based on the photos and reports. A pretty dense crowd is about 1.8 people per square meter, and the National Mall alone is about 125 hectares, 1.25 million square meters. So that would be 2.3 million people. Given the report from Steve of an actual literal count of 450K early on, I think the 2 million number is *very* plausible.”
Tim:
I figured ‘Allowing for the street to fill and empty twice’, in other words times 2.
I will look back at the Obama annointment and recalculate it, but I did the same type of thing then and the figure of 400k comes to mind. Obama’s crowds were more dense, but only at the front, ie. people were there to see Obama. The point of this event was to be there and show the world/news. There was no particular reason to be at the front or near the speakers.
I think that 250k for this event is easily more impressive than 400k for Obama. Much of Obama’s crowd was college age meaning they can travel light and with little preparation. Younger families have to plan for taking care of the kids, middle aged people typically have work and household issues, and elderly people tend to have mobility issues. This rally is politically more important than many since these are largely tax-paying voters.
Ah, but you don’t hear any of those moronic teabaggers/townhall screamers demanding Obama do away with medicare, do you??
No…what I hear is them demanding reform. Tort reform. Going after wasteful spending and fraud. Bet that if we opened up interstate insurance, many seniors could afford – even on fixed incomes – to have a private plan.
The presumption by liberals is that just because we oppose socialized medicine (which seems to have serious flaws and problems in Canada, the UK, Cuba) we want nothing done. NOT TRUE.
We have three more years of Obama so keep in mind that 9/12 protest will likely be an annual event, a bigger and bigger annual event if the Dems economic idiocy isn’t checked.
It would be nice if conservative Americans, Canadians and Brits could coordinate a date for an international Down with Liberal Idiocy rally.
Reading the hundreds of recommends to anti-Obama comments in the Daily Mail coverage was heartwarming.
BRAD:
We here in canada will take to the street’s when the liberals get into power and follow suit with obama …you see we have a conservative minority govornment rightn ow so our Prime minister has to cater to the left ..other wise they will oust him …here is a fact ….even the left in canada is starting to move to the right ..ever so slightly but they are they are soo upset with boob rae ..and the count iggy ..that many of them are rethinking there ideal’s ..some are even wanting smaller govornment….beleive it or not …and so iggy want’s to call the 5 election in 4 years …and that is probably going to upset alot of libtars and force them to vote conservative ..and that may give us the majoriy govornment that we want and may allow our prme minister to radically shrink the govornment ..as taxes ..ect ect …rightn ow he has to govorn to stay in office …he has to give the dog’s sooo much rope that they choke themselves ..and it IS working …if iggy calls another election ..it will cost canadians another 300 million ..and that deos not sit well with the left or the liberals or the conservatives …harper has been doing a good job that is my opinion he has had to make conssesions on his beleif’s becasue he needs to stay in power and win over on the fence voters …witch he has done and is doing …he WILL swing over further to the right once he get’s his majority govornment ….and you will see canada prosper once again you will see the country and our dollar sore maybe even passing the u.s. .
