Perhaps the computer geeks can disconnect the POTUS’ TOTUS and watch him um…er…ah his way through any given topic. Then they would see the emperor for what he is, an empty suit that can’t function without someone scripting his every word.

Look at this article in the National Post today. I’ve been concerned about this for some time and this is the first time I’ve seen something about it in print. Actually, I’ve figured that the way the markets have been acting since 9/11 that there was too much manipulation going on by very big players- besides Soros. The only people with enough clout to attempt steer global markets any way they want are: 1. the USA. 2.Middle Eastern Petrodollars perhaps in conjunction with shared interests from Russia and 3.China. Personally- I don’t think China wants to see the demise of the western economic system and I don’t think the USA wants to shoot itself in the foot.
I see Obama as pandering to the middle east, attempting to verbally pacify them (and believing his own rhetoric) but simultaneously looking for a way to defend our economic system from further onslaught. He may need a way to shut things down instantly and perhaps this internet method may accomplish that but I don”t feel that he is competent enough to play this game. You can’t pacify the enemy by pretending that he isn’t your enemy.

Right of Center…I remember the day that Bush did that ‘phone tap’ announcement. It was on page 6 of the Chicago Tribune nestled neatly below some advertisement for Macy’s big sale. On the front page was the long lost news of LISA BENOIT’s latest murder details and…wow Lisa WHO? If this was so bad why didn’t Obama immediately rescind this…wait..no. They Will NOT because they enjoy using it themselves.

Wow Joe C., thanks for basically giving GW’s actions regarding national security the two thumbs up! Should give the Leftards pause to think…if only they were rational enough to make the connection.

Regulation of broadcasting, as with regulation of printed media, is a violation of free speech, free expression, free press, “free media” as in the Canadian Charter of Rights, or some combination thereof. Period. Unfortunately, it has been going on in the U.S. as in Canada for decades. Solution: abolish their FCC and our CRTC.
Incidentally, isn’t this comment functionally identical to the Alberta law that its human rights commissions’ violations of freedom of speech should not be “deemed” as said violations?
Another Sunstein comment: “I have argued in favor of a reformulation of First Amendment law. The overriding goal of the reformulation is to reinvigorate processes of democratic deliberation, by ensuring greater attention to public issues and greater diversity of views.”
When the government controls or regulates “democratic deliberation”, you can bet there won’t be “greater diversity of views” for very long.
And finally: “… we must doubt whether, as interpreted, the constitutional guarantee of free speech is adequately serving democratic goals.”
Free speech does not “serve” democratic goals or anything else. It’s a right that we have by virtue of our being born.

Google “clinton, wiretapping” and then come back to us with a summary of your findings. He also increased ECHELON spending considerably. Meantime, bush authorized wiretaps of suspected individuals making OVERSEAS calls, particularly those to the middle east. I guess that’s not relevant, eh?

For the record, I would support an enforced lockdown of Joe Citizen’s IP address; it would reduce unnecessary bandwidth waste and the absence of his posts would elevate the discourse of blog postings, everywhere.

Interesting move by the establishment elite. Implementing internet II earlier than expected. When the feudal elites are done with the net it will resemble nothing more than a glorified cable TV system filled with mind numbing drek and political propaganda from all the usual corporate suspects. It will be limited to government approved commercial sites and to access anything else will be financially prohibitive for the average surfer.
Interesting also that it is a Rockefeller providing the fist legislated stab at the free net. Not that we couldn’t see it coming with all the denouncements his uncle Dave and the CFR elites have been making about “unprofessional unregulated” (citizen run) information networks.
Let’s face realities people, the establishment elite (political, academic, economic) do NOT want the soiled masses to have access to an information tool as powerful as the internet. It spoils all the best laid plans of these influence brokers and their political puppets and it has broken the monopoly on public information that the elite’s concubine, the MSM, has had over us for generations.
Be honest. This is another “us versus them” scenario from an ongoing historic saga of large effete polities always gravitating to controllers and the controlled.
The free net has to go. Just as they advocate most civil freedoms must go for our own good. Our social engineers have mused openly that China has the best political system for controlling large masses of people and that they would like to adapt it to governance of a post industrial America. It stands to reason they think the Chinese internet model is ideal as well.

Joe Citizen is fervently pretending there is no moose head, in the hope it will go away on its own.

I’m fairly certain the Internet isn’t some building in LA or Washington or somewhere that you just go and lock the doors. I agree with the posters stating if ‘W’ did this, media and civil liberties groups would have gone bonkers. But now they just get a pat on the head like a little puppy, which is what they want, I guess.

Fly: There are just too many people around who like the net the way it is now, and there would be hell to pay. People just won’t be happy with glorified cable TV after knowing this freedom.

Maybe if someone would have shut George W’s “Google Earth” down while it was till time—-he would have gotten his bearings straight, and invaded the right country after 9-1-1!!

Er…Joe Citizen…are you trying to convince us you’d be UNHAPPY if terrorists or Iranians or whoever breached security at a refinery, power station, airline, or explosives factory?
