Over the last eighty years, liberalism has been morphing into socialism, and perhaps reacting to the vacuum left begin, conservativism has been morphing into classic liberalism. When Ronald Reagan said “I didn’t leave the Democrats. The Democrats left me.”, it may have been more than just a clever rejoinder to an awkward fact.

The only one I can think of recently in NA is the Reform party… perhaps Reagan’s old Republicans were somewhat classical liberals.
Remember classical liberalism is both free enterprise as well as libertarian in terms of social issues.
langmann, wrong. The classical liberal holds to immutable tenets morals and principles. The libertarian does not. That’s why a classical liberal will be for example against abortion or gay marriage but a libertarian is willing to throw caution to the wind on these issues.

Having said that, social conservatism and classic liberalism are not incompatible, provided the means of implementing social-conservative goals are voluntary rather than through the government. As an example, declaring homosexuality to be wrong and making homosexuality illegal are two very different things. Classic liberalism does not demand that one be an atheist or approve all behaviour.
I think the left is now forcing conservatives towards libertarianism by the left’s efforts to impose their views though legal means. As an example, the Roman Catholic church has become an active voice for freedom of speech and religion as the right to practice their religion has come under attack. Conservative university students also get a lesson in liberty when they find how hostile the modern campus can be to their views, even to the extent of shutting down or denying facilities for conservative events.

Some people only get a few shots at a good job in their entire life and to deny them a job because of race is despicable. It hurts them and it hurts their family.
Why should a white man with kids be denied a job so that a middle class woman, who grow up privileged and is married to somebody with a good job already, can fill some kind of quota. Now you have a poor family with low income and a rich family with a double income. That isn’t fair.
The womens movement is always going on about the stats concerning women living in poverty and how it gets worse. Here a thought on that. You are giving jobs to women that aren’t poor and taking jobs away from men who have wives and daughters who are poor. Of course the stats are going to get worse.
I know a lot of families that have been affected by this and it ain’t pretty. It’s maddening.

It’s almost so sick that I wonder whether it’s true or not. To be denied a job that you are the best qualified for so that someone else gets it because they have or don’t have testicles, or because they have or don’t have a certain skin colour, qualifications be damned, is sick as hell. And that’s called progressive!!!
I guess the ultimate progression of this is to kill off all those without the required presence or absence of testicle and those with the wrong shade of skin. Hmmm? Seems to me that Somalia must be really progressive then. But then, it is the socialists that kill off their own.

When I and others moved to a new position and the reponsbilities passed to four people..with a token white male. That is the merit system we have. The philosophy was performance is dependent on ability so if they didn’t get the duties of the position it was ok.
Pat, are you kidding me? Try to get into U of T Physiotherapy (or McMaster, or pretty much anywhere in OnScario) as a straight White male.
I found out the hard way that the deck is very seriously stacked. No way, no hope, no chance for The Phantom’s big white male a$$ in any Ontario university for PT.
See, this is where stupid, liberal, university educated me got mugged. I got right up in the face of the sensible shoe wearing head of the U of T physio department and asked her flat out if I had any chance of getting in to that program as a guy. She said “nope”.
So I did the only logical thing. I left this F_ING bullcrap country and went to a PRIVATE school in the United States, where you can -buy- an education (assuming you’ve got the marks).
See, that’s the thing about Canada. If you don’t kiss the right booty just the right way, or have friends in high places, y’all ain’t gittin’ any.

They have no problem taxing you to death when you’re making money but you go to the end of the line when the jobs that were created by your tax money come available. Someone who never paid a dime into the system gets preferential treatment over someone who’s paid into the system for decades.
I’ll compete equally with anybody for a job but to be taken out of the competition solely because of my race or gender is just plain wrong.

The Charter was designed to override the Civil Rights laws not to enhance them. That what is so evil about the document. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into bringing in civil rights laws but the rich intellectuals from Harvard and Oxford had a different idea of what’s fair.
Martin Luther King Jr would despise people like Trudeau and Obama for their racially divisive actions.
…………It is my experience that I would rather trust people of average to very good mental ability in matters of ethics and morality than someone whose powers of intellect, persuasion and rationalizing are so great that they have been able to avoid confronting the bankruptcy of their creed. Their glibness and facility with abstracts may have made it possible for them to cover moral and ethical shortcomings in their lives with reasons and rationalizations………..
