Some free advice to lefty governments everywhere. You try to collect an obscene amount of taxes the first thing that happens businesses will either move or close that equals no tax collected to pay the bills. After businesses move or close those people now unemployed will be collecting tax money in the form of unemployment insurance or welfare they will not be paying into the tax base.
It is very very simple. Why can’t you see it?

The response to that is clear. Everyone in California, when sending in their tax returns and estimated tax payments, only need to enclose IOU’s to the state.

The truth is that California has been issuing IOUs, knowingly, since 2000
as ET would say; California is Asymmetrical in every way.. they don’t see the forest.. and it feels so good.. No body keeps score…follow the leader, WTF could go wrong….
This is not just a sour grapes complaint but goes along with Toronto ramping up its tax collections, fees and charges to pay for their social programs.
I am lucky to live in a small home on a quiet street several roads in from Bayview south of Eglinton for which I have to pay over $6,100 in taxes for the priviledge of living in Millerland. We have very little cross traffic and almost none at night yet on Thursday at 4:33am my car and several other neighbour’s cars were ticketed. Why, what harm were we doing parking in front of our own houses. This is just another blatant tax grab and I am sure there are thousands of examples worse than mine.
Try parking to shop on Bayview as the parking assassins scurry to see if you are a minute over. My buddy was ticketed with 15 minutes left on his parking slip and when he challenged the officer he just shrugged his shoulders and said he couldn’t cancel the ticket which required my friend to have to go downtown to have it withdrawn. Obviously the assassin hoped it would be too much trouble and as thousands do just pay the fine. Then park on a side street, cant for more than an hour.
Each and every municipal service cost is rising yet our city is deteriorating pandering to those who wont or dont contribute dime 1 in taxes or the vast public unions that are bleeding our city dry as 85% of the budget is for wages. Oh, by the way there is no one to complain to as they are all out on strike!
I just heard on the radio that Tim Hortons is moving back to Canada to be a primarily, Canadian company.
Why?
Lower tax rates and easier to expand globally.
Could this be the beginning of a deluge of US businesses moving north?

Lefty’s are so far divorced from market realities, that they don’t understand how those “junker” laws conspire to keep junk on the road.
A year back, we bought a 14 year old car for my daughter. Paid $1400 for a Cavalier with 145k on it. Now, if suddenly that car is worth 3 or 4 grand as scrap, then it’s worth that to sell to an entry level driver, or someone of low income needing a car. This inflation has a ripple effect upwards in the market, as it sets a floor price for every used vehicle out there. (If a 94 Cavalier with 270K is worth $3000, what’s a 2001 Intrepid with 200K worth?)
These laws also conspire to keep low income earners always driving junk, as they can never afford to move up. If it takes you two years to pay off your clunker, it’s likely used right up by then, and you can’t afford anything but another clunker, because you haven’t had a year of no car payments, allowing you to save for something better.
Add in that more of your income gets used up in repairs, gas, etc., and you see the vicious circle that clunker laws trap low income people in.
