  1. “Too much democracy” – the number one reason that socialists run out of money.*
So what’s the number one reason conservtives run out of money?
BTW there RHTerryTory, you seem like one of those people when playing poker and you get a pair of deuces the whole table knows straight away. Did you ever hear about walking softly and carrying a big stick? That’s what Obama’s doing and what maintain his excellent standing with the American people.

  2. “too much democracy”
    oyph.
‘magine if Arnie was a Democrat. the missus is so apparently that’s good enough to claim “too much democracy” in the great state of californicate.

  3. “Productivity unexpectedly rises in Canada”
“Productivity by Canadian workers rose unexpectedly in the first quarter of the year as the economic downturn cut into both production levels and hours worked.
Statistics Canada said Tuesday that labour productivity -the measure of employee output per hour – edged up 0.3% between January and March.
Economist had expected productivity to actually drop by between 0.3% and 0.4% in the first quarter, following a revised 0.1% decline in the previous three months. The fourth-quarter declined had originally be estimated at 0.5%.”

    Gotta love that “unexpectedly”.
    Go Canada.
    Go home, Iggy.

  4. Lorraine: “But Ignatieff says he has not met with Harper since January????
    “Why not?”
Peter Mansbridge asked Iggy if he had contacted the Prime Minister at any time to ask for a meeting and, as per usual with Count Iggula, Mansbridge got a non-answer.
This morning, listening to Ignatieff on my way to work, I was struck by how many times he used the words “I” and “me.” He didn’t so much seem to be talking as the leader of a political party but as an ivy-league prof from a much more august aerie: his me-myself-and-I-ivory-tower ego. His arrogance is Gargantuan and his foolishness, even greater.
He’s clueless when it comes to real, hard politics, he’s a dilettante politico who’s been AWOL from the Canadian scene for over 30 years, and seems to think “Oh, what a good boy am I,” just for standing at the mikes and threatening to huff and puff and blow PMSH’s house down — with that ridiculous, smarmy smile on his face, like a benediction to the rest of us.
    What a poseur!

As the article says,“notice, by the way, that the U.S. media has totally ignored this story—even though the securities in question are allegedly U.S. instruments.”

Mountain rescue crews mull quitting over lawsuits
“Some search and rescue teams in British Columbia have stopped operating and others are looking at packing it in over concerns they may not have insurance against being sued.”
-later- “Duffy said it’s the first time a British Columbia VOLUNTEER search and rescue team has been hit with such a lawsuit and that realization has forced all teams to reexamine their insurance policies. ” (capital letters in VOLUNTEER are mine)

    Iggy’s a wuss*.
    …-
*”1. He’s a wuss. Iggy threatened last week to bring down the minority Harper government this Friday, then retreated quicker than a long-tailed cat escaping a room full of rocking chairs. In the main, Iggy’s caucus doesn’t want to force a summer election. As a British statesman once jokingly said, “I am their leader. I must follow them.” Iggy’s a follower, not a leader. No Chretien he, rightly chiding his caucus as “nervous Nellies” on the cusp of leading the Grits to a third consecutive majority. Ignatieff is so afraid of his own shadow that, as Liberal advisor Rob Silver wrote Monday: “Michael Ignatieff has given Stephen Harper possibly the easiest opportunity to continue governing as Prime Minister a minority leader has ever faced.”

    “Bermuda protesters denounce Guantanamo decision
Hundreds of protesters called for Bermudian Premier Ewert Brown to step down on Tuesday and accused him of acting like a dictator in allowing four Guantanamo prisoners from China to settle on the mid-Atlantic island.
Some 600 people gathered outside Parliament in the island’s capital Hamilton, waving banners and chanting “Brown must go” as they marched to the Cabinet office.
Tuesday’s protest was aimed not so much at the Uighurs as at Brown for his failure to consult the island’s people or governor and his perceived snub of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, whom the governor represents.”

  9. fritz, baby, I missed Jon Stewart last night but watched his rerun today. If you think he was serious with his quip about Iran’s “vibrant” democracy, you need to take your sarcasm detector in for a tune-up.

  10. not stirred – could you provide some evidence that Obama is ‘walking softly and carrying a big stick’?
Also, did you know that his popularity now, is lower than Bush’s was at the same period in HIS first term. Bet you didn’t know that. Obama’s ratings have reduced to hard core Democrats; he’s lost the Republicans and is losing the independents.
Waiting for your explanation about that ‘soft walk’ and ‘big stick’.
