  1. They asked George W. Bush why the cat crossed the road.
He answered: “I don’t really care why the damned cat crossed the road. I just want to know if the cat is on our side of the road, or not! There’s no middle road here. He’s either with us–or against us!

  2. Buster the cat didn’t think that was very nice.
He is however learning how to yowl in Dutch.

  3. PS: I’ve seen that cat before. I think it was on an Eveready battery or a pack of smokes! Not sure?

  4. I’d like to have every blogger on this subject comment on the cat – then – comment again if the animal were a dog.
I think that would reveal alot.
I have a dog and two cats. Guess what – you don’t have to choose. You can love both species.
Jaeger – would you care to comment on why you thought this was worth posting? Would you have done so were it a dog that got run over?
Tell us what is inside your mind. I do hope it is honorable.

  5. I never ran over a cat with my bicycle but I did run over a rat with my motorcycle. Does that count?

  6. Dad told me about an old timer in a Model A that hit a pig. The car was a write off. The pig escaped with minor injuries.

  7. Horrible video. I’m both a cat and dog lover, and this video made my stomach turn. Really wish this hadn’t been posted. 🙁

With few exceptions, most folks have much more empathy for a dog than a cat……perhaps that’s been imprinted in our DNA after so many thousands of years since we started sharing our caves with them. Cats are a fairly recent addition…..

  9. I second Colin from Mission’s motion. I ran over a coyote one night many years ago near Chaplin. It feels terrible – I can still see the flash of it’s eyes in the headlights. There is a difference between newsworthy and just plain sad.

  10. I agree with Colin…there really wasn’t a good reason to post this. Being amused by the death of another creature that was just trying to make it’s way and wasn’t hurting anything is sick.

  11. I am a cat lover and I regret watching this. I don’t know why I did, I usually never watch videos online. I will keep in mind that Jaeger posts this sort of thing.

  12. It’s not like Jaeger ran over the cat himself or anything – and the blog is called Small Dead Animals, so I guess it doesn’t do to be too sentimental – but still, poor kitty. I love cats. That was obviously somebody’s pet.
I’m weirdly gratified by how many of the posters who disliked this video are male.

  13. Watching the cat get run over isn’t as bad as the thought of no one finishing it off….

  14. Which part of “cat lovers may not want to watch this” did you cat lovers not understand?

  15. I can’t see the video, as I’m at work, doesn’t let me. I can assume from reading the posts that a cat was turned into roadkill. Can anyone send me the location? I have these 2 cats that belong to wife and one has a broken leg or something. Vet wants 1500 to fix it, I said no way, a .45 bullet is much cheaper. Wife won’t let me shoot it.
So the question is, do I just let them play on the highway?
*disclaimer* I don’t like to kill cats, only when necessary

You do realize that more cats get road killed than dogs, yes?
Why? Because dog owners licence their dogs and are required to keep them from running at large while cat owners don’t licence their animals and aren’t required to keep them from running at large.
The majority animal at the impound? Cats.
The majority animal that is put down at the impound? Cats.
The animals that deranged pet hoarders prefer to pack their home full of? Cats.
The pet owner that pays for the impound to operate through licencing fees?
    The dog owner.

It(getting hit in the street) wouldn’t be one of my dogs because, unlike most cats, they are under control.
Are your cats under control special bob?

  18. Jaeger – would you care to comment on why you thought this was worth posting?
I thought Kate had higher standards than that.
    PUKE!

  19. if my black and tan coonhound kills a cat, does that make me a bad person? I’m just curious. Or does that just mean that the person who owns that cat should keep better tabs on their pets? My dogs don’t leave my property unless they’re with me.
I think in lieu of all the animal shelters being full up on cats we should start a new sport, something akin to skeet shooting, only … I’ll leave the rest to the imagination.

  20. Cat’s are not really domesticated—-they occupy a twilight world of wild and tame.
Years back, after getting bit by a rabid cat I invoked a shoot on sight policy and then was over-run by rodents…..
    Wadda-ya do????
I recall a picture of a road kill cat on a road shoulder with a sign “free cat.”

    Get a terrier or chihuahua.
They out-kill rodents 10 to 1 over cats.

  22. Useless post
Nothing to learn, nothing to discuss, nothing to enrich
Worse than watching “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (sic), and seeing people getting soccer balls kicked into their crotches
The cat looks like it was paralyzed (back legs)
    Never again, thanks

  23. That’s Dion’s cat at their summer house in France.

    Ferrets rule…..

  25. Bumper stickers:
Missing your cat? Look under my tires.
I love cats, they taste like Chinese food.
Ask me about microwaving cats for fun and profit.

  26. Ferrets are not really domesticated—-they occupy a twilight world of wild and tame.

  27. ok, watching a cat get paralyzed.. real nice…
so again what was the point of this?

  28. At least no people were hurt. I thought the peloton was going to go down.
    >> Vet wants 1500 to fix it, I said no way, a .45 bullet is much cheaper. Wife won’t let me shoot it.
Animal cruelty in the name of sentimentality is still cruelty.
It would have been kinder to shoot it than to throw the cat into a basket, jostle it around, bring it to the vet, put it on the table, and THEN kill it. Plus, the vet’s poison ruins the meat.

  29. Was this video posting supposed to be some form of entertainment? If so it raises grave concern. To take pleasure in watching the suffering of any animal is evidence of mans evil nature as can be attested by some of the comments here. For shame.

  30. Walking around the community last night I heard what initially sounded like a wounded jackrabbit screaming. The poor creature just did not want to stop. Decided to check it out and voila, there was a small shadow moving on the nearby road.
When I jumped a wire fence, I realized that it was in fact a puppy raccoon in the middle of the road, alive and well, but scared sh1tless.
It is amazing how the little body size of Subway sandwich can produce high pitch noise for so long!
He saw me approaching and instead of running away, limped towards me. Don’t know what his motivation was, he probably was a very confused creature at the moment. As I had leather work gloves on, I grabbed him by the collar. Although he tried to bite me at first, he immediately calmed down in the air and allowed to carry him into the bush on the roadside, where he sat breathing deep and fast, looking at my wife and me on the other side of the fence. You should have heard deep roar that he gave when trying to bite my hand!
We thought that his paw was run over, but no – he was probably scared by a vehicle that drove very close.
How old is a 10″ raccoon? Should not be wandering around without mommy I reckon.

  31. another example of the higher intelligence of cats. See cyclist coming, go anyway; believing attitude will save the day over prudence & intelligence.
    Typical liberal errr sorry cat.

  32. Well then, I should get an Award !
Why just the other day while headed into town taking my 7 year old daughter to Daycare. I was watching the trees and Tar Button Road where the local sheriffs hide and try to pick us Tax Paying Citizens off for a high priced ticket. If it says 35 mph you better be going 35 mph, and you better let those wheels come to a complete stop before plowing thru that stop sign.
Anyway, my radar is on and all of a sudden my daughter screams out, at the top of her lungs, DADDY ,,,,,, PUPPIES ,,,, and sure enuf there were, two chijuajua looking things, Man, I hit the brakes and seated those new ceramic front disk pads in real good. I came to a stop sideways and temporarily block traffic till them (2)puppies could get across. My daughter got a lil upset that I would not pick them up , but hey, there were two lanes of cars and trucks behind us and was not even going to chance my daughter jumping out of the truck.
But, don’t worry, the Lady in the Pontiac Vibe pulled over and picked them both up. Which is good for me seeing as how I have 5 outside dogs and 2 insides ones.
Yea, my two inside ones are a female 25 pound 1/2 breed 16 year old gip, her name is Ratt, she is deaf, and a 14 year oldish one-eyed ZshitZu that has lost most of her hair, and just about all of her giddy-up. She can still eat pretty good. Yea, we rescued the Zu from a pound in Tyler, Texas. She was a left over from Hurricane Katrina. She looked like she had been rode hard and put away wet, and both eyes were looking real bad. I took her home anyway. Two days later my Vet calls me and says he can’t keep her under sedation much longer and asks me which eye do I want to save, because he is running out of time and can’t save both. I picked the right eye, because it had looked the best. To our surprise two weeks later taking the bandages off my Captain Jack Sparrow Zhitzu she was blind in the right eye.
My daughter, God Bless Her, said Dad; ” We can shortened her name from Scarlette to just Scar.” Ya gotta love a kid like that !!!! Besides; as long as you don’t re-arrange the furniture to much she gets around fine.
Next time, I talk about the 5 outside ones.

  33. Though Mustela nigripes is not domesticated,
Oz, Mustela putorius furo most certainly is,
indeed, it has been for two to three millenia.

  34. Vitruvius, I was just replying to sasquatch at June 9, 2009 10:49 AM in kind, but thank you anyway.

  35. Brings me back about 25 odd year; my brothers and I had set up a ramp in front of our house and were jumping over it with our bicycles.
As my younger brother was peddling for all he was worth, a cat came around the back corner of our house being chased by dog, my older brother just had enough time to say “Is he going to…?”
Bicycle over cat over ramp; cat howling like a banshee before continuing to zip across the street; dog freaking out and revering course back behind the house and myself and my brother rolling on the ground in laughter.
One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
