  1. ET, given the behavior of the White House in the Chrysler bankruptcy this week, I begin to take -all- polling with a large grain of salt. If only because the MSM is in full-on propaganda spin mode for Bary, and thus anyone who reads the MSM or watches the news is getting disinformed.
That will also bend the polls. If people actually knew what he was doing they’d freak out. Propaganda works.
However your point about the SCOTUS is well taken. Bary wants a rubber stamp there, so his next appointee will be someone he owns. If I were Clarence Thomas I’d sure be looking over my shoulder right about now, too.

  2. phantom – yes, the MSM – in large part, are sycophants of the Democrats and Obama. But, you are ignoring, possibly, that in the US, they have conservative news media – lots of small papers, religious news, and FOX news.
FOX gets more viewers than any of the CNN, MSNBC, etc, etc combined.
And, don’t ignore, in this era, the power of the Internet. It offers freedom of information, choice of information, analysis, commentary – that the MSM cannot do.
Remember, those Tea Parties, which had a massive attendance and even larger secondary support, was entirely Internet created. No, not FOX News, which supported it – but these Tea Parties were Internet created.
And there’s a LOT of criticism of Obama around. The latte-States, such as New England (my god, the seat of rebellion against George III!)..and California…but, a great deal of the country isn’t socialist.
Obama came in as an anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-being hated, slither. He’s a snake. He’s setting up a rogue state. And Americans are, suddenly, all talking about The Constitution. This is something that hasn’t been referenced for quite some time. Now, it’s in so many articles, opinion pieces, and..the comments of ordinary citizens in blogs.
They are saying that they want a govt devoted to the principles of the Constitution. That’s all. This is quite a remarkable statement.
It’s a rejection of what Washington, both Republican and Democrat, has become – a megalithic, interfering monstrosity. People are saying – Enough. We want our govt to be the way WE, The People, set it up. In OUR constitution. Not the way you power-hungry guys want it. We want it the way WE, the People, want it.
Which party is going to listen? The Democrats are engaged on a massive power grab and destruction of the freedoms and economic capacity of the middle class. This is Obama’s agenda; he (Michelle) hates the middle class.
So, it’s up to the Republicans to focus, not on being ‘moderate’. Or ‘all things to all people’. But to being a party committed to only one thing: The Constitution. It should insist that this is all that it stands for – the federal govt has the duties outlined in the Constitution. That’s all. And these are limited.
Anything else – all societal values such as SSM, abortion, etc..are to be decided by the people. Again, by the people, not by Congress. By the LOCAL people, in their States. it’s their business, not that of Congress.
So, I take Rasmussen polls seriously. The MSM polls are garbage.

  3. And they walked by the swing set! It is a Canadian built swing set! I’ve never been prouder to be . . . . oh forget it …I just can’t do that anymore . . . .

Thanks for the chuckle Erik. That was very clever. I presume you are referencing the Canada arm spacethingee? If not, I’m clever then eh?

  4. set you free – yes, I saw that. It will fluctuate. But the key statistical trend to notice is the slope.
The disapproval slope has been positive, going up, since Obama took office. The approval slope has been horizontal and is now, slowly starting to move negative, i.e., down.
If you click on ‘trends’ in that page, you’ll see the whole numbers for the period, and you’ll see that Obama moved out of the double digit ratio at the beginning of March. This is frankly to be expected; he came in on a utopian White Charger and rapidly deflated his image with his ‘stimulus’, his auto-takeovers, his bank take-overs, etc, etc.
BUT, this is still not enough for a population to turn completely against him. This would be also tantamount to turning against themselves; they elected him. And Obama is very manipulative; he deflects criticism. He rejects criticism, so, he’s blamed his ‘stimulus’ on Bush (??); all financial problems..on Bush.
He’s catered to the left exclusively – with his denial of the reality of terrorism, his constant apologies for ‘Being American’, his govt intrusion into everyday life. BUT – he’s alienating the independents and of course, has lost the Republicans. He’s reduced to the approval of Democrats.
Check out other polls. On health care, Americans are divided. The majority (72%)reject the govt/UAW running Chrysler. And 75% oppose the release of the guantanamo into the US. In other words, on key Obama decisions, the majority of Americans are rejecting those decisions; he’s reduced to Democrat approval.
BUT, Obama, as I said, is a highly manipulative person. He is extremely able at separating himself from the decisions. So, it was Congress and Bush who created the pork-stimulus. It was Bush who terrorized ‘victims’ and created terrorists. It was Greed that created the bank and mortgage failures (not Clinton’s insistence that banks lend to anyone for mortgages). Therefore, it will take a bit of time for people to separate fact from fiction. Obama spins a fictional world around himself – and it’s not easy to separate his make-believe world from reality. Certainly – he lives in a totally self-written, unreal world.
But, it will happen. And sooner rather than later.
It will be interesting to see how he handles the next Tea parties on July 4th. Obama creates divisions; he sets people up against other people, while he pretends to remain aloof, ignoring that he is the one who polarized them in the first place.

  5. ET:
    Understood.
I’ve been following Rasmussen for quite a while and have all the confidence in We The People.
Tea Parties on July 4 is something new to me.
The one I’m interested in is the Sept. 11 Tea Party in Washington.

  6. set you free – It’s Sept 12 in Washington. And elsewhere. Have you seen the web site?
    Tea Party
They’ve got all kinds of ‘blogger alliances’. It’s very much a grassroots event. And they are all around the country, not just in Washington.
And there’ll be protests on July 4th as well.
Now, what is interesting, is how will Obama deal with this? Remember, he literally cannot fathom anyone questioning, criticizing, dissenting from him. That’s his narcissism. If you do so, he feels that you are not under his control and he cannot, psychologically, handle that.
He has two possible reactions. Rage – where he’ll emotionally try to bury you. Or he won’t recognize you exist (same result). Now, with these first Tea Parties – his first reaction was to act as if they didn’t exist; he claimed he’d never heard of them. He left it up to his MSM minions to denigrate, smear, insult the people who were in those rallies. Finally, he’s acknowledged them, but with the same mockery of his MSM minions.
Now – how is he going to handle the next ones? I suspect he’ll try to create a crisis- that’s a frequent strategy he uses, to divert attention. Or, another diversion would be to have some kind of National Remembrance or whatever..to make it seem almost unpatriotic for anyone to engage in a protest rally. His agenda will be to belittle, demean and denigrate anyone who criticizes him.
    We’ll see.

  7. w was as popular and regan was more so. who the hell gives a rats ass what idiots think of the big o. things get really tough the big o wiil be GONE.

  8. et. the push to socialism as we know it began over 100 years ago.

  9. ET:
How long before the Big O uses ‘enemies of the US,’ much like our leaders used ‘enemies of Canada’ in an attempt to marginalized the Tea Party movement?
BTW, before anybody gets on about the report about right-wing extremists, a similar report about left-wing extremists was released a couple of months earlier.

  10. set you free – yes, but the ‘left wing extremism’ was far more general. It was just as stupid, but it defined the left as anyone focused on anti-capitalism, anti-globalist, communist, socialist. This is a factually valid statement.
But, the DHS memo on ‘right wing extremism’ focused on issues that defined you as a rightwing extremist – such as abortion, immigration. If you disagreed with the federal views on these issues, you were ‘right wing’. Now, this is factually invalid.
The DHS report didn’t, for example, inform us that the leftwing extremists were pro-abortion, pro-immigration. It simply defined the political philosophies of the left. The closest they came to a definition of issues was that they might be involved in environmental and ‘animal-rights’ issues. But so can the right (with the opposite viewpoints).
Plus, and this is an important issue – Obama made a clear political decision, to release the DHS report on Right Wing Extremism, a week early. The day before the Tea Parties. I don’t for a minute doubt that this was not a deliberate political strategy to define those who complain about the federal govt (as they did in the Tea Parties)..as an actual example of Right Wing Extremists.
That’s what added to the anger over the DHS memo. Not only its ignorant description of ‘what is a right wing extremist’ but its deliberate attachment of that definition to the Tea Parties.

  11. Wait til the economy works out which shell the trillions are hidden under and the hyper inflation begins. No blaming Bush for the trillion dollar stimulus and the multi trillions of dollars in deficit spending that Obama is planning.
The tea parties are not about tax rates, they are about hyper inflation. If the inflation doesn’t come, they will fizzle and disappear. I think the inflation is coming. I lived under these same policies from Nixon through Carter, and I know how it turned out.

  12. This is an excerpt from the White House Press Corps Glee Club official 2009 Songbook – “More Love Songs for Obama – Volume III” I think it is the source of the “enchanted” question, and possibly a plea for a public acknowledgment for a private favor bestowed, who knows?
    “One enchanted evening
    you may meet Obama…
    Remember it’s an honor
If he teabags your dripping chin…”
    Just a thought.
