  1. Well Mulronic was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. PMSH is doing the right thing by the wait and see method of the inquiry. The more PMSH speaks and appears in public the more prouder I am of PMSH. Have a good easter weekend.

  2. Small L liberal spouse has on CBC.
Peter Mansbridge holding his little forum. Andrew Coyne, Chantal Hebert and Alan Gregg.
In a smooth voice Mansbridge intones ( Oh I love that word) For the first time….. dissent within the Conservative Party. The subdued murmer of pundit’s name, as he calls the pundit to tell us about the misfortunes looming for the Conservative Party.
Another damaging quote about losing respect, within the party.
    Now Chantal mentions Iggy.

Oh yes, our local newspaper two days ago, had a large picture of the said Iggy. A twice repeated column by someone calling Flaherty a liar, throw in Stephen Harper. I think Sun Media owns it.
I will have to try to quote the actual name- a woman journalist, I think.

    The drumbeat continues.

  3. Just as an aside.
I’ve seen a couple of comments floating around of late on some blogs, and seeing some polls propogating that the two parties are in a “virtual” tie (which I guess is the pollsters way of getting as close to the result as possible to what the unnamed sponsor wanted).
So I ask myself, there seems to be a sentiment being pushed that the libs may have a chance at forming the next government. Under the circmstances, and Iggy’s rejection of the coalition he once agreed to, I doubt very highly he would be in majority territory.
So who does that leave in the HoC that Iggy can get support from to keep his government alive?
    The Bloc? Just kidding.
The NDP? Jack has already burnt that bridge.
Yeah, thats right, Harper would be in the drivers seat.
So getting to the point of my dreary boring post, who is the leader that has the skill to manage a minority government?
Harper you can feel confident about his judgement.
Iggy, its a guessing game, and his motives don’t seem to include good governance.
Iggy, less like Obama, and more like Hillary.
Please return to the previous thread theme.

  4. Interesting that Liberals continue to try to exploit Mulroney as a personality in the hope of causing trouble for Stephen Harper.
    Big Bingo, LindaL.
When I first read Bourrie’s reference I thought, “WTF does an arms dealer have to do with Harper?” (having forgotten, what with all this Climate Change Catastrophe Going On).
So, yup, it worked on me, and I’m a bit embarrassed.

  5. Anyone get the sense we’re going back to politics as usual in this country? Doesn’t matter who’s in charge you get bribed with your own money to vote. I know we were backed into a corner by a bunch of leftards but if we had pushed back and said NO! We are not going back to trudopian BS programs for union blockheads from cheronto we could have gained some ground. The auto sector isn’t so popular right now guys. These bailouts aren’t gaining support.

  6. This Mulroney/Schreiber thing is hanging around like a bad smell.
I asked my husband a few minutes ago: “Who the H*ll cares anymore?” AND, if Canadians do care — that is, “Canadians” as distinct from Canadian journalistic hacks and leftard political partisans — then how come they don’t care about the million$ the Librano$ stole from us? Where’s the outcry and outrage about THAT, a much worse miscarriage of justice than Mulroney’s questionable $300,000 loan from Karlheinz.
This is just a pile of crap being pushed by the MSM and the Lib$ to discredit Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his party, which is quite distinct from the old, tired, and morally bankrupt “Progressive Conservative” Party.
And anyone who can’t see this is blind, deaf, and dumb.
Brian Mulroney was/is “Conservative” in name only. He’s a Quebec lawyer whose strings were/(are still being?) pulled by the Desmarais Boys at Power Corp.
Iggy’s pretensions of being oh-so-caring about Brian Mulroney’s reputation are phony; it’s not at all difficult to see what he’s trying to do: divide and conquer. He’s a transparent poseur who hasn’t a hope in H*ll of being an authentic leader of the LPC, let alone Canada’s PM, UNLESS he can make the Canadian public think that PMSH is a cheerless, heartless, meanie.
    GIVE. ME. A. BREAK.

  7. I would like to see a little more investigating on this story. Like maybe,an interview with KHS about how he is doing, and maybe a reaction from the Germans and how Canada has pleased them.I won’t hold my breath.

  8. On the other hand, maybe Iggy’s pretensions about concerns about Brian Mulroney’s reputation aren’t phony but, rather, are the result of the close ties each of them have to the Desmarais Family and Power Corp.
Perhaps being horses in the same stable creates a certain allegiance.
Stephen Harper’s not hitched to the same post.

  9. When a party advocates the abolition of the HRC’s then I will get on board. Until then I recommend Keith Martin to those in southern Vancouver island.

  10. Batb: “maybe Iggy’s pretensions about concerns about Brian Mulroney’s reputation aren’t phony but, rather, are the result of the close ties each of them have to the Desmarais Family and Power Corp.” You mean Iggy is in with the Desmarais too??? This is too much!

  11. I don’t care what anyone says. Mulroney destroyed our families livelihood. he doubled income tax as a “temporary measure” our income group was the hardest hit and paid the most taxes. Income tax time was a nightmare during his term in office. The man was a shister and crook. We were utterly gauged under his lead. Out of any Prime Minister Mulroney was by far the worst regardless of whether you are a conservative or liberal. I will never for get the Mulroney years – worse years financially I ever experienced. Under his leadership food banks became necessary.

  12. remember the Reform party was created as a response to the Progressive Conservatives , not in response to the Liberals. The left side of the political spectrum was fully covered by the lieberals and the dippers. the PCs were getting there too. Reform was to give power to the people with such novel ideas as recalls and referendums and responsibility and accountability . some of us Reform have not changed our root beliefs even after fixing the Conservatives by pulling from the centre.
I still have 6 of the largest Stephen Harper Reform party posters up on the outside of my house. They are covered with tarpaper and siding since and will make an interesting discovery for an archeologist some day.

  13. Well, this speaks volumes…today I get a flyer in my post box from the PEI potato farmer, Wayne Easter, no less, headed “THEY WANT IT DEAD” with a stone “In Loving Memory” and the inscription “CWB”
Third question on the inside, postage paid back to him in Ottawa, “Do you agree with the federal Liberals that the CWB’s future should be determined by farmers, and not by the Harper government?”
Unbelievable flyer when you read it all.
The Liberals just don’t get it; perhaps in the West (Alta, Sask and Man.) we should have free marketing choice like Ont., Que., and the rest of the country enjoys.

  14. Are there any lieberals out there who are not embarassed by the cbc/msn 24/7 public hand job?Right,I thought not.
    Royaly pi$$ed east coaster

  15. Lindal…that ‘connection’ would be the puppet handlers behind Iggy…Cretin,Rae and Co.
Iggy is along for the ride
No wonder Iggy seems so disoriented, all those puppeteers trying to talk thru him…do you feel sorry for him sometimes?
    j/k

  16. LindaL: “You mean Iggy is in with the Desmarais too???”
Perhaps not as directly as Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretien, and Martin, but, let’s face it, everyone in the Librano Party is connected to the Desmarais Family, as they’ve been pulling the strings of the LPC for almost 40 years.
That would be a good investigation: Check out Power Corp’s continuing influence on the LPC and whether or not Iggy has ever distanced himself from the Desmarais. To my knowledge, he hasn’t.
Until the Librano$ pay back all they owe Canadians, and until they publicly disengage themselves from Power Corp’s influence (all backroom stuff; heck, most Canadians don’t have a clue who Power Corp or Paul and Andre Desmarais are or that Bob Rae’s brother, John, is a Big Wheel at Power Corp) it would appear that The Iggster is under their sway too.

  17. A question: What is Robin Sear’s doing being the spokesman for Brian Mulroney?
He’s always been the spokesman/spokesperson/spokesperdaughter for the NDP on CBC’s Politics with Don Newman.
Wow! These “progressives” like to cross-dress and change shapes a lot, don’t they?
I kind of like Sears. I find him thoughtful and informed, but could anyone tell me why Mulroney has chosen him as his mouthpiece? ‘Seems to demonstrate that Mulroney is definitely dressed up in his “Progressive” Conservative suit, which has very little to do with the new CPC, and which is why Prime Minister Stephen Harper is very wise to be distancing himself and his Party from this brouhaha.
The Reform/CPC Parties were formed to return “Conservative” to its original roots and as a repudiation of Brian Mulroney’s Red Tories.
Trust the Librano$ and the Canadian MSM to deliberately bypass this reality. If honesty in reporting meant anything to them, they would have to acknowledge that Iggy, the LPC, and Brian Mulroney are much more in cahoots than are Stephen Harper and Mulroney. Brian Mulroney is a bona fide Quebec/Power Corp/Desmarais Family alumnus and, IMO, used the “Conservative” label as a beard for his left-leaning, progressive agenda.

  18. No-One — Re Mulroney: “The man was a shister and crook.” — we don’t this, and quite frankly I can’t believe anyone was a bigger crook than Chretien. Not just Adscam, but deals on napkins, people getting fired who would not knuckle under, untendered contruction projects going to relatives, expensive “special” museum exhibits going to Shawinigan, jobs moved to Shawinigan, a million dollars a week going to China, Kyoto nonsense (which I suspect he knew would screw Canadians), Demerais connections(an important factor influencing his decision re Iraq), Digby Wharf (local, but the Chretien Liberals would have been a part of this), all those “foundations” and special interest groups getting funded by the taxpayers — it was endless — I never felt that Chretien had the best interests of Canadians in mind. Unfortunateley, too many Canadians are in the dark about all the abuse of power that took place under the Chretien Liberals.

  19. batb: “The Reform/CPC Parties were formed to return “Conservative” to its original roots and as a repudiation of Brian Mulroney’s Red Tories.”
Exactly! I really wish the Reform/Alliance name had stuck.

  20. Lindal – I do not doubt that what you are saying is the truth. However, I did not experience utter theft of my hard earned resources under Chretien who I do and did not like. Mulroney utterly raped our family of resources. I think of families now under Harper who have children the same age we did at the time. They are benefiting as they should be. Nice deductions for children and nice tax credits. Good incentives for Mom’s who want to stay at home an raise there children instead of the nightmare of trying to find god child care with absolutely no subsidies under Mulroney. Under Mulroney we lost the right to claim our children as deductions. The child tx credit he introduced did not even begin to cover the losses, my taxes were doubled. It was an utter nightmare. Either you are too young to remember or you did not have children during his leadership. he was by far, the worst prime minister Canada ever had. My spouse lost his job due to his privatization of government owned operations – spouse was a mechanic who repaired government owned equipment. We were so close to homelessness despite two persons working it was ridiculous. There was no such thing as food banks b4 his leadership. don’t tell me. i lived through this assholes policies and our whole family suffered massively – it took years to recover. My best friend started the campaign to impeach the bugger and rightfully so. He was an utter failure and embarrassment to all Canadians Conservatives or liberals. The man was an utter crook. He owes me big time. Our hard working not lazy family barely made it through his terms. I have never worked so hard for so little in return. It was utterly horrible. Don’t you dare tell me anything unless you had small kids during this term and worked your frickin ass off and earned under $30, 000.00 per year. The man totally ripped of the poor. Closed all mental institutions and untold number of hospitals. Obviously you were not around and did not experience this assholes destruction or you were one of the lucky making over $70,000.00 per year in which you received countless benefits and deductions. Don’t tell me-I lived it.

  21. Lindal.
Just to make a a point i deided to enter into the 3008 tax programs our income and earnings we recived during the Mulroney years. Despite barely making aliving. Interest rates were high under Mulroney – gaas prices equivalent to today. No claim for children. Inccome tax doubled as a “temporay measure”. Harpers government gives me back $4200.00 dollars with kids the same age as with the Mulroney government. this does not include the transit pass deduction which of course I paid for my kids to be bused to school. With Mulroney I owed $973.42 in taxes. With Harper I get back $4200.00 including the payments for child tax credits. I have deducted child tax credits with Mulroney as well. Same income. However my tax deductions are percentage wise way less under Harper. My spouse alone not including my income, paid over $10,000.00 in income tax. the equivalent in the 90’s was $13000.00 for his income bracket. Don’t you dare tell me Mulroney was better than Chretian. During Chretian we actually recived a samll return. Albeit small, but at least we did not owe the government money as we did under Mulroney. I challenge anyone under the mulroney years to input thier tax info in the programs available for free online and see what a huge difference there is. Mulroney, although conservative, and i am a conservative, was ahuge mistake and sisapointment. Try doing the same under Chretian tax wiswe and you still pay $2000.00 less than Mulroney. The Proof is in the pudding.

  22. No-one — I did not mean to challenge your claim that you suffered a lot under Mulroney’s tax policies. I am a bit confused, though, such things as subsidies for child care are usually made available provincially. Hospitals and mental institutions are also provincial jurisdiction. Now I know that institutions in Ontario were mandated to close — and that policy has continued, but it was in fact initiated by one of our favourite socialists, Bob Rae. There was also a lot of suffering caused as Liberals cut transfer payments to the provinces, and that is the context in which I hear most people complain about loss of social services and major impact on the working poor. Again, I am very sorry to hear that you had to experience such difficulties. Could some others in addition to Mulroney have contributed to this?

  23. Memories…thanks for reminding me No-One…
We were ‘audited’ on our farm in the Mulroney years. Hubby worked, so it was just a ‘hobby’…expensive albeit. He’d get home from the construction job and run around doing fencing and haying all night. No summer vacation for us …too much work to do.
Our reward? Could not claim tax expense, because he worked off the farm. They demanded far more than we ever claimed, sold the cattle to pay the tax bill…all the while watching welfare homes being buit in the ‘hood, for people who didn’t work.
We should have bought a boat instead of cows.
Those were the Mulroney days, and that was one reason the Reform Party took off.
    Cretien was just plain crooked.

  24. Yeah, No-One and bluetech, the Mulroney years were pretty grim. My husband and I were bringing up two children on one income — his, and he’s in a “helping profession” so despite three university degrees, was making a very modest salary — and I stayed home with them: ‘Best thing I ever did.
But, did the government recognize the contribution stay-at-home parents make to not only their families but the community at large? I was a mega volunteer in my town, and I knew what my kids were doing, and with whom, thus saving them and my husband and I a lot of potential heartaches as they hit their teen years.
During this time, the government, beginning with the Liberals, taxed our family unit to the max and made life very difficult. I applaud the CPC $100/month/child 6 and under; it would have been like Manna from heaven for our family.
I had thought that when Brian Mulroney’s Conservatives were elected in 1983, things would change. I had thought he was pro-life, I had thought he would put a lid on the out-of-control feminist agenda, I had thought his government would be family-friendly (after all, Mila stayed home with their kids), but what a disappointment. Mulroney changed nothing and continued the Librano agenda, keeping high-profile feminists — who had their big guns out for women who didn’t follow their power-for-women-is-financial-power-women-don’t-need-men-and-anyone-can-care-for-your-kid agenda — in positions of power.
The Librano$ were awful but in some ways the Mulroney Conservatives were worse because they should have moved Canada away from the brink of a socialist, feminist wasteland and they didn’t.
