The Ontario Human Rights Commission petitions to restore muslim women to their proper display of subservience.
The Ontario Human Rights Commission is arguing that a provincial court judge failed to recognize the religious freedoms of a Muslim woman when he ordered her to testify at a sexual assault trial without a veil known as a niqab.
The government agency is asking for special permission to be allowed to intervene at a Superior Court proceeding hearing an appeal of the lower court decision, because of its 45 years of “expertise” in the area of human rights.
(Note that “expertise” is in scare quotes. Heh.)
The commission says it can assist the court in interpreting the Ontario Human Rights code and help explain issues of human rights.
“The Commission’s intention, if it were allowed to intervene, would be to articulate the current state of the law in respect of the duty to accommodate religious beliefs and practices and to explain how Mr. Justice Weisman’s ruling is inconsistent with the current state of the law,” the government agency argues.

Today’s National Post editorial noted that public sector workers make 8% to 17% more than private sector workers. And we know that the swivel servants in regulatory agencies like the CHRC or CRTC produce nothing of value in return (as opposed to, say, the crews that tar the roads).
If things get really bad and the people filling these worthless jobs continue to get paid for doing nothing productive, there could be riots in the streets when Joe Citizen figures it out …
I don’t think they’ll get that bad though. Unless we have a surfeit of “stimulus”.
Covering is traditional and not religious, particularly niqab. As for hijab the views are divided, some hadiths state that it is proscribed some say not. Quran itself does not specify hijab. But the court is in Canada so everybody has to follow Canadian laws, muslims included.
There are some muslim women who do not wear hijab but not many. I think that it is because many Muslim women, particularly in the west, want to show to everybody that they are Muslim first and everything else second.
As for HRC it only follows UN in allowing religiosity and the values of certain middle eastern religion to come first and everything else – their own law, their own country, western values – second.
