Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Twelve Days of Christmas shows, here is John Eliot Gardiner leading the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists in the opening chorus of the first cantata in Johann Sebastian Bach‘s Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248 (7:39). And for tonight’s flip-side, here are Musica Amphion performing the sixth and seventh movements of Arcangelo Corelli‘s Christmas Concerto in G Minor, Op. 6, No. 8 (5:56).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Interesting tidbit on Question Period today. They were joking about Craig Oliver being rumoured as a Conservative Senate appointment.
Oliver said that he already had a FIVE YEAR contract with CTV until he was 75 so he is not interested.
Five Years!!!!! I thought CTV was laying off 20% of their staff and they keep a blind guy who does not do any research except to regurgitate Liberal talking points for Five MORE Years!!!!
And, I’m guessing that Oliver would consider it totally beneath his , ahem, political acumen and intellect to EVER be considered a Conservative appointment.
Until his calibre of talking head is replaced with honest non bised true investigative reporters we will never rid this country of the elite brainwashers who seek to rule over us (Iggy, Dion, Chretien, Martin, Trudeau) rather than for us don’t you think.
This afternoon I helped a 5 year-old and 2 year-old build a snow fort. It wasn’t very easy because the snow here in Vancouver is dry, not wet. But I mustered all my engineering schooling and succeeded to their satisfaction!
While at my friends’ home I spoke to an aunt of these boys. She’s 35 years old, South Asian, and her father is a prominent figure in the Liberal Party of Canada here on the Left Coast. She has been a Liberal Party member all her life.
I was very surprised to hear her bring up the topic of The Coalition and then … condemn it wholeheartedly! I know she never voted for Harper but yet she went on & on about “Dion being defeated big time and then … suddenly he was going to be PM?!”
Just one woman’s opinion but it gives me further evidence that more than a few average Canadians were appalled by this UnDemocratic Cabal.
Breaking News from England:
Police probe mass Santa brawl
Detectives are investigating after a group of men dressed as Father Christmas got into a fight.
Police said the men became involved in a disturbance in Norwich which left one needing treatment for a head injury and another suffered cuts to his face.
Police said one group was “dressed as Father Christmas” and the other are described as being of African or Asian appearance. A man has been arrested.
Rumours about Harper’s senate appointments should be put to rest tomorrow when the announcements are made.
Here is a prediction: Carole Taylor, former BC Finance Minister who was recently appointed to chair (at $1 per year) the business roundtable of advisors for the Conservative Government’s budget consultations has just also resigned her MLA seat.
Scuttlebutt has it that she will chair this advisory group from her new seat in the Senate.
CTV’s website has an article where Buzz Hargrove takes the Feds and Ontario government to task for not ensuring that current car production levels are maintained in exchange for their cash. Um, these would be the cars that they are losing money on, and still can’t sell without huge discounts. I saw a commercial today that offered a $26,000 minivan for $18,000. They’re giving them away!
But old Buzz, true to form, insists that Canadian jobs be saved, while American autoworkers lose theirs. That’s union solidarity for you!
He also added that CAW members make $30-33 an hour, not the $70 that’s reported in the press. But that $70 figure was for the US, where approximately $30 is for pension, health care, and other benefits. Even so, $33/hr is close to $65 grand a year, and that’s not chump change. There are a lot of people in Toronto working for $10-15/hr, and trying to have a life – that’s hard work.

how about a glowing endorsement from the

I’m listening to BBC 4 Radio. Some economics “expert” just said that the British gov’t should keep on bailing out British automakers because … wait for it … “in 3 years there’ll be an increased demand in China”.
How many imbecilic things can you find wrong with that comment?!
For starters, do you think that Chinese workers won’t be producing the bulk of the cars for domestic use in 3 years???
Robert- The most popular nameplate in China is Buick. That’s why GM kept the Buick name in their lineup.
I’m not up on the British car scene, what do they build these days?
I doubt the Chinese will be importing many cars in a few years. Their ability to produce knock-offs of just about anything is bad news for exporters.
John Holdren has just been appointed as Obama’s Science Advisor. Let’s just say that Al Gore would be proud. God help the rest of Americans.
DP, it’s Jaguar-Land Rover that will be bailed out. They’re owned by Tata, a Mumbai based company.
C,mon Canada! Youse can do better.

Humbug to Sex Parity in [Quebec] Cabinet
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081219.wcogagnon22/BNStory/politics/home
Finally, a female reporter–well, any reporter would do–is admitting that having an equal number of men and women in Cabinet may not be the best thing.
Lyse Gagnon: Sex parity is “sending our governments down a very bad path, because it means that some of these appointments will be made regardless of merit and qualifications. … how many [women] were chosen simply because they wear a skirt? How many competent men were excluded simply because they shave in the morning?”
Gagnon’s reasoning is laudable but comes a little too late. Some of us redneck yahoos have been making the same point for over 20 years, but what did we know? We’re just, well … redneck yahoos … you know? Real women.
Headline over at today’s National Post:
“Out of the Shadows: When Belinda Stronach left Parliament Hill to return to her family business, nobody really expected it was the last they’d hear from her …”
Some of us only hoped it would be.

Federal Finance Dept has a Questionnaire online asking for input on ’09 budget.
Click just below pic of Flaherty, in centre column, on box saying:

And the site is working just fine this morning.
Liberal MP Joyce Murray – one of the few Liberal MPs west of Ontario – was on CKNW this morning viciously criticizing the upcoming senate appointments.
When she referred to Harper having a lack of principles, I almost upchucked my porridge!
Isn’t that rich, for a member of a Party Without ANY Principles to be lecturing others on principles.
Hey, I’m not ecstatic about these Senate appointments but I view them as a necessary block against Le Coalition handing them out like lollipops on the Island of the Lord of the Flies.
Sarah Palin: Conservative of the Year
by Ann Coulter
….
But if anyone on the McCain campaign chose Palin because she would drive liberals crazy, my hat is off to him!
True, Palin made some embarrassing gaffes.
She complained that we didn’t have enough “Arabic translators” in Afghanistan — not realizing the natives don’t speak Arabic in Afghanistan, but rather a variety of regional dialects, the most common of which is Pashtun.
Speaking to military veterans one time, Palin said, “Our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today.”
She bragged about passing a law regulating the nuclear industry that it turned out never became a law at all.
Some days Palin said Venezuela’s dictator Hugo Chavez should suffer “regional isolation” — but then on others she’d say she supported the president’s meeting with Chavez.
She told one audience about recent tornados in Kansas that had killed 10,000 people. In fact, a dozen people were killed in the tornados.
She referred to the “57 states” that make up the U.S.
Speaking of her eldest daughter’s pregnancy, she said Bristol was being “punished” with a baby.
As you probably know — or guessed by now — none of these gaffes were uttered by Palin. They are all Obama gaffes. Luckily, he made them to a star-struck press that managed not to ask him a difficult question for two years.

Why is browsing Black better?
“Blackbird provides African Americans with easy access to advanced features and services, greater visibility and access to hard-to-find African-American online content and a platform for sharing their entire internet experience on the web.”
What do you think of the Danny Williams/Abitibi spat? I am thinking about Saskatchewan. Newfoundland may be closed for business, but as I recall, there is a mill in Saskatchewan that recently closed.
Maybe Abitibi is interested in moving to a somewhat more business friendly environment?
Ctv.ca is reporting that Mike Duffy has been named Senator.
At church yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting one of our veterans of Afghanistan. When I asked him if he was going back, he replied that he had done two tours, so perhaps not. I shook his hand, thanked him, and welcomed him home.

She was naively right. There are not enough Arabic translators. The Quran, Hadiths, and Sira are mostly taught in Arabic to keep 90% of the Mushlooms in the dark.
Kind of like Latin and the original Roman Catholic Church.
neo: batb here. “batty” as in how?!!
Sorry I couldn’t go to your link. At least, when I do go to your site, it takes SO long for it to open, I run out of patience. (I have an old computer and for some reason it doesn’t respond well to your blog site.)
Last night, it did something it’s never done: It flipped me right back to SDA, after I’d waited two or three minutes to try and open your take on The Belinda.
And, BTW, what you quoted as me was actually the headline at the National Post! 😉
