  2. I assume this is a joke.
    The 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act prevented large scale Chinese immigration. Large scale immigration from China didn’t start until the 60s.
    Also the Johnson-Reed Act prevented a lot of immigration from the East.
    Furthermore, FDR basically shut down all immigration during the Great Depression. 1929 there were around 250 000 immigrants but in 1933 he reduced it to around 20 000.

  3. All Canadians seem to be migrating from Alberta. If it had been from Quebec, they’d be speaking French in Washington.

    The thing is there has been lots of immigration from Quebec to the United States. Specifically, the New England area. So much so that by around 1910 10% of the population of the ‘Boston States’ was from French-Canada. You can see traces of such a migration in the names of many American hockey players such as Leclaire and Desjardins.

  10. i wonder if someone could dig up and post that famous old poster that showed Napoleon’s grande armee heading east to moscow and then retreating westward…..it is able to show a developmental timeline even tho the medium is of course static…..
    what i mean to say is that in many ways the ‘old’ methods of imparting knowledge were as informative and interesting as the ‘new’….

  13. A steady wave of immigration from Australia to the U.S. starting from 1820??? Australia was a penal colony in 1820 and the aboriginals didn’t travel the oceans. If the video maker was serious he’s get the numbers accurate, make the video a couple of minutes long, and demonstrate the reduced immigration of the 1920s and 1930s and the changes after the 1965 legislation. Sorry but this one is a loser.

  14. Thousands of Australians & New Zealanders migrated to California in the mid 1800s, because of the gold rush.

  15. Most immigration from Canada to the USA has come from Quebec especially during the 1870s through 1930s. In rural New England, there are towns that are essentially copies of rural towns in southeastern Quebec. French even has status in some of the northern counties of Maine.
    For comparative purposes, I would like to see a map like this of Canada.
