Followed by the networks continued waiting… waiting… waiting… for Dion’s taped response…. air time filled with CTV’s Lloyd Robertson, Craig Oliver and “analyst” Peter Donolo spinning on behalf of the missing Liberal leader.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Update… and still waiting… though there are unconfirmed reports leaking out that a man of the general size and description of Michael Ignatieff was seen running down a street in Ottawa with something clutched in his hand….
7:29 Central… Lloyd Robertson: “Apparently the tape has not shown up yet, may not show up yet…. Goodbye for now”
Update … more unconfirmed reports that Dion is still working at the tape do-overs…
And he’s here! Incoherent (out of focus… wtf?) and …. live?
Webcam?
And it’s over. Marcia McMillan looks stunned…
From the comments – “Check out the book over Dion’s right shoulder. The title is “Hot Air”. No kidding !!”
This will be Youtube gold.
Note – I’m watching on CTV Newsnet, but apparently, the main network didn’t get it on air at all and finally cut back to regular programming. Yowza.
Jack must love that he had to take a back seat and wait as Gille “not mentioned in the coalition” Duceppe was able to respond first.
That whole “Three Stooges” thing is looking less like a metaphor all the time!
Update: The Leader of the Not-Quite-Ready-For-CTV-Primetime-Coalition addresses the nation from his bunker.

Hey are you guys spreading the astro turf.
Lizzie’s awfully quiet; did the Ho-alition offer her the Forests Ministry?
Who listens to Craig Oliver?? He’s a zero. he simply regurgitates meals left over by other lefties, whio aren’t bothered to eat that crap.
FlumnY? No… Bum-boy!
Does anyone have a link to the video with Dion and his gavel, saying “sign it!” or something to that effect? I think it was at the Kyoto treaty proceedings.
BeerBellyBuddah, please tell us what mess we are in exactly. The auto industry is in trouble, how did Harper bring that about? Some, not all, of the manufacturing is in trouble, exactly what did Harper do to cause that? The forestry industry is in trouble, and has been for a long time,so tell me what did Harper do to cause that? What specific policy or policies caused our economy to be so baaaad? Its bad in southern Ont. and Quebec, the rest of the country seems to be chugging along just fine. As for stimulating the economy any damn fool can throw taxpayers money at it,but I’ll bet my last tax dollar that it won’t help the economy one bit.
Geez – I really feel sorry for PM Harper. I heard he had the flu really bad for the past few days since all of this was happening and barely has his voice back. YOu could tell in his address this evening.
Talk about a week from hell.
we, the people, didn’t vote for a coalition.
And we the people didn’t vote for Steve Harper.
—manny,
Actually,
some of the people voted for Steven Harper
and NONE of the people voted for the coalition because it was NOT on the ballot.
The Governor-General makes the call. Harper advises her. She doesn’t have to do what he says if she thinks he’s lost the confidence of the House and if there is another alternative ready to govern with said confidence.
Mardigras:
by you metric the LP has seen their % plummet to close to single digits…
ET, Dion may not know he is destroying the LPC, true enough. But then, also might realize it, and not care. Or even be doing it intentionally.
Regardless, the effect is the same. The political capital he is squandering is hard won, easily lost, like trust.
This is a very crafty political move by Layton. The center is occupied well by the CPC, which is not about to move right anytime soon. Jack owns the left, where is there room for the LPC, and with such a weak leader, what better time to drive a wooden stake?
It looks as though there is only upside for Jack and the NDP.
I am surprised that the graybeards of the LPC did not see this, and step in. This coalition has brought the NDP camel’s nose into the tent. The LPC should have pushed the NDP even further left.
By focusing all of their venom on Harper, they have missed their real threat: Jack and the NDP.
Found it:

Haha, nice gavel there Mr. Dion
Full version of Dion’s address here:

It’s quite surprising how many people don’t know the liberals were the party that decided to fund the separatist Bloc.
They don’t know that their tax dollars provide 86% of the Bloc’s funding.
And they get quite bent out of shape when the find that out.
Why would the liberals decide to fund the Bloc?
Did they need the separatist boogyman to scare the voters?
Without 86% of their funding, the bloc would have withered and died but that would have left the liberals without a separatist dragon to slay.
The real spark of this crisis was when Harper decided that the government of Canada should not fund any of the political parties, including the Bloc.
The bloc only raise 14% of their funding from donors, by removing yours and my tax dollars from the separatist bank account they would disappear and cease to be such a threat to Canada.
Cutting their funding is a great idea, but it was roundly rejected by the liberals and the NDP and was the spark that started this crisis.

Good quesationing, there sysk. I note they couldn’t repkly.
“are Craig Oliver’s eyes glued open?”
Sandy Rinaldo held him down and Lloyd Robertson stapled his eyelids to his forehead back in 1997.
Fact is, the issue of a coalition came up in the final weeks of the election campaign. At that time the idea was scrubbed by both the Libs and the ND’s. So, it is completely unethical and dishonest for “coalition” supporters to try to say that a coalition now is a reasonable solution.
There is virtually no doubt that the voting patterns would have changed during the election if the concept of a coalition had been agreed to. So any coalition now is illegitimate.
In any event, Dion is one of the biggest losers I have ever seen in the political arena.
“Sandy Rinaldo held him down and Lloyd Robertson stapled his eyelids to his forehead back in 1997.”
THAT is laugh-out-loud funny!!!
Considering that the vast majority of important appointments, decisons etc. come from the PM’s office, to say you don’t vote for him is idiotic. I couldn’t even tell you the names of the candidates that run in my riding because they are irrelevent.
And yes I know how the ‘effing system works. We are 150 years removed from Britain. In this country, when a minority government loses confidence of the house, we have an election, not a palace coup.
Obviously the laws need to be changed since the scumbag politicians have forgotten the difference between legal and right.
“why doe he have the Polish flag in the background”
He believes that Steefan Harpuuuuuuuur has German Panzer Divisions ready to invade Parliament. The Eeeevil Harpuuuuuur wishes to launch a Blitzkrieg Election on Canada and only I Steffffan Deeeon can stop ‘im.
thanks Lucas Kenward @ 8:40pm and Canuckelhead @ 9:55pm for tracking down that video clip, i’d thought Dion referred to the Separatists rather than the NDP, but this is the clip i was looking for.
I cannot stress strongly enough the SEVERE DAMAGE that this coalition will do to our country if it actually succeeds in securing power. Mark my word, the effect of this on our country will be devestating because of the reaction from the West. This is not an idle threat. With this Eastern power grad the West is being severely disenfranchised. Easterners and leftards may not think this is a big deal but they must realize that it is. It has taken us a long time to get to the point where we have legitimacy and financial power. Now that we are there we are not about to relinquish it.
This Troika a Twits is talking about a “Cap & Trade” system aimed squarley at Western Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan in particular. No way, baby! Not this time! It is not going to happen. Ralph Goodale is a full partner and player in making this happen and he has to be defeated in the next election. He could not care less about the West.
Saturday. I’ve spent the past two evenings making signs for the Saturday demonstration on parliament hill. I trust you will all be there yourselves. My signs are two sided piecess with slogans and a wooden,36 inch handle,. (sounds like my 36 inch woodty)
There are many witty rebukes of Dion, Duceppe’s bitch, but, remember the chant:
BLOCK THE BLOC!
ELECTION NOW!
Duceppe’s bitch is a less important matter.
We have an opportunity to drive the liars into the dirt. Crush them and then contiunue until their very atoms no longer exist.
Dion is Duceppe’s bitch right now.
Humiliate him. in French, he is le poutain de Duceppe.
Dion is Duceppe’s bitch. Remember that. Bring it up at question period. Sir, isn’t Dion Duceppe’s bitch?
It’s up on YouTube:

I am so disgusted by CBC and CTV, They are going on and on and on about how the poor people in Quebec are feeling about Harper warning about instability if separtists hold the balance of power for our federal government and the whole country.
Nowhere do I hear them worrying about how Western Canadians feel about this travesty.
You know, the people who are going to be PAYING for the bribes to the BLOC.
Anybody else catching this?
Why even bother with caring about national unity anymore.
“why does he have the Polish flag in the background.”
He’s shamelessly whoring for the influential King of Poland John III Sobieski vote by appearing to take a tough stand against the Ottoman Empire. The fact that the Ottoman Empire folded close to 100 years ago means its a battle that Stefan is sure that he can win.
stan, I agree with you that the Liberals enabled and supported the Bloc; they did this as an election strategy. They set up the Bloc and then, defined themselves as The Only Way to keep Canada united and Fight Against The Bloc. Neat, eh?
So, they use taxpayer money to enable the Bloc to exist – whose MPs happily take their salaries and benefits and pensions from the Canadian taxpayer – and serve to actually get the Liberals votes in, particularly, Ontario. Ontario was set up as Liberal because the Liberals defined themselves as The Only Party to Keep Canada United.
As for your assertion that Harper’s withdrawal of taxpayer funds was the catalyst, you are ignoring that this putsch was in the works for months. I claim that the agenda was to keep it hidden (the NDP-Liberal-Bloc Hidden Agenda) until the day of the Budget. Then, suddenly, defeat the govt and immediately announce that they had a plan, were all set, and there was no need for an election.
Harper knew about their plan; he had to make them put that plan out to the public. Something they had no intention of doing..as they wanted the element of surprise and ‘no time to think’. The only way to get them to react was a measure that would really shake them up – that was the stopping funding to what is their only interest – themselves. They fell for it – and announced their plan…but now, we have the time to criticize it and see how terrible and frankly, evil it is.
“Nowhere do I hear them worrying about how Western Canadians feel about this travesty. ”
No kidding. Barely a word.
Newman is doing a great job whoring himself out to get that senatorship, though. He’s practically drooling out of his lipless mouth.

Actually Craggy Owl-liver is visually impaired… but he’s also a PARTISAN, BIASED, BOTTOM FEEDER troll.
Feel free to kick that unscrupulous c*%k sucker at any opportunity. Canadians need news, and inform, ation, not Libranno spin.
Still no sign of the $40 million stolen under Librannos watch. Any body seen a refund cheque??
“He’s practically drooling out of his lipless mouth.”
He still has to win a qualifying match in UFC 93 – The Green Wars with Dizzy Lizzy May. I understand Lizzy May has been working the heavy bag – Sheila Copps – pretty hard and is in fighting trim. Don Newman’s best strategy is to feint to the right and then whip out a Venti Double Whip Latte with extra foam from Starbucks.
While Lizzy snarfs down a cool 1,000 calories that she’s been craving since Election Day, Newman can hit her with a double leather gift set of the Hansard and then take her Senate posting.
I think that all of you from Alberta will enjoy this: http://pelalusa.blogspot.com/2008/12/if-youre-going-to-lie-make-it-really.html
P.S. Hey Kate, when are you going to automatically turn http text into actual links? I’ve stopped enclosing them inside HTML link tags because then the comment usually won’t display.
I’ve been thinking about Dion’s video address,,, and something smells here!!! Professionals at that level don’t slap something together that poorly when so much is on the line. I think Iggy or one of his supporters were running the video camera(cell phone?) with the purpose of sabotaging Dion, making him look like a ‘two bit hustler’, for the sole purpose of having the coalition fall apart. This would provide two things for Iggy. 1)it would keep him(Iggy) from officially being in a coalition government with the Bloc and 2)it would save him from voting against Dion and publicly splitting the LPC
The fact that the Ottoman Empire folded close to 100 years ago means its a battle that Stefan is sure that he can win.

Hannibal. Thank you. I’ve been kind of stressed out this week, but your post (quoted above) literally made me burst out in laughter. Thanks again. =)
“I’ve been kind of stressed out this week”
No one who looks like some type of special needs version of Mr. Peabody and his Wayback Machine from Rocky and Bullwinkle with a dollop of Fractured Fairy Tales thrown in can accomplish any kind of coup except in the Potemkin Village of the Liberal Party of Canada. For Dion, that’s kind of of like sex with an inflatable doll once you’ve let all the air out — a lot of thrusting without much of a rise.
Hannibal, as of right now I’m laughing so hard I have tears streaming down my face. Thank you!!!
“I’ve been thinking about Dion’s video address,,, and something smells here”
They’re going for the sympathy vote, tugging on the heartstrings of the overly-emotional.
“I’ve been thinking about Dion’s video address,,, and something smells here”
They were trying to do a handheld fight scene from the Bourne Supremacy and something went horribly wrong in the French Embassy with a can of WD 40 and the squeegy kid from outside the building.
“And we the people didn’t vote for Steve Harper” Don’t you mean Stever Hopper.
I want to “kill” as per Reid Scott (martin will know) forest Gump French frog and the commie ( the one who was cheating Toronto taxpayers – on housing )
I want them dead for my children future . should I call Osama?
Stephane Dion as Prime Minister????
And you thought George W was stupid????
This passing week was a peek into the Liberal mind of madness that no rational human should have ever witnessed.
The new generation of Canadian psychologists will have their hands full for decades to come and illicit drug use along with ramped alcoholism will soon plague our nation………someone needs to be accountable!
There was absolutely NO introduction from Dion, it looked like they just cut in at the middle of his speech.
The media was under the impression that Harper would give a 10 minute speech, and ended up giving a speech under 5 minutes. In the interest of fairness I bet the CBC had to tell Dion to trim down his own 10 minute message, and they cut in mid message and kept the end.
It is compelling to watch…
Kind of like a car crash or a train wreck.
Let’s do an inventory of the stuff on Stephane’s shelf:
– Book called “365 Jours” by French photog Yann Arthus-Bertrand
– Long, knobby brown thing that looks suspiciously like a French baguette
– Old photo of people in uniform: I say it is French president DeGaulle saying his infamous “vive le Quebec libre” in Quebec City.
– Kitschy plate with Canada arms
– Book “Hot Air” by G&M columnist Jeffrey Simpson, about global warming.
Conspicuously missing is evidence, any evidence, that he speaks for the Liberal Party and not only for himself. Pitiful.
“Good work on their math there from my blog! What you failed to mentioned to everyone were these two factoids:
From 2006 to 2008:
– The Liberals declined from 19.56% to 15.52%
– The NDP declined from 11.31% to 10.74%”
By these figures I reckon then that 26.26% of Canadians voted for the Liberals and NDP vs. 22.25% for the Conservatives last month. First past the post wins all, no question here.
Percentages mean squat in the parliamentary system. You can bend the percentages of the popular vote all you want, it’s the number of seats that count, and the Liberals combined with the NDP did not win as many seats as the Tories, and that is that.
Robert, thanks for the facts below. What they show is that the current Conservative minority government, with 22.25% of Canadians having voted for them in October, has the least proportion of Canadians expressed support for a government in history.

“Dear Mardigras Dave,
Welcome over here from the Pravda forums (oh sorry, the CBC “News” forums)!
Good work on their math there from my blog! What you failed to mentioned to everyone were these two factoids:
From 2006 to 2008:
– The Liberals declined from 19.56% to 15.52%
– The NDP declined from 11.31% to 10.74%
And while we’re at, in the entire history of Canada before that, here are the figures for every previous winner:

1926 Liberals 29.04%
1925 Conservatives 30.63%

Muddled and out of focus…kind of says it all for this back alley abortion known as the Coalition. My God, can you imagine this befuddled fool running the country? What a Dream Team…Dion the Doofus and Comrade Layton. Dion obviously can’t even organize a decent video op! Trust this ninny with our national economy…not bloody likely! Throw in Smilin’ Jack who exudes all the blustering bonhomie and oozing, oily trustworthiness of a used car salesman and we can just guess where our hard-earned tax dollars would end up. Can we all spell “AdScam”? This is NOT about our economy and NOT about ordinary Canadians. This is all about Roadkill Dion who was kicked to the curb by his own party and smarmy Layton who is always the bridesmaid and never the bride…two power hungry twits who would rather genuflect at the feet of the Separatist Savior Duceppe, than act as rational, non-partisan parliamentarians in order to keep our country on an even keel. What will this sweetheart Quebec deal cost us in terms of money, or unity? You can bet your derriere that ordinary Canadians will never know…after all, this was a Backroom Deal!
