  5. BeerBellyBuddah, please tell us what mess we are in exactly. The auto industry is in trouble,how did Harper bring that about? Some, not all, of the manufacturing is in trouble,exactly what did Harper do to cause that? The forestry industry is in trouble,and has been for a long time,so tell me what did Harper do to cause that? What specific policy or policies caused our economy to be so baaaad? Its bad in southern Ont. and Quebec, the rest of the country seems to be chugging along just fine. As for stimulating the economy any damn fool can throw taxpayers money at it,but I’ll bet my last tax dollar that it won’t help the economy one bit.

    The Governor-General makes the call. Harper advises her. She doesn’t have to do what he says if she thinks he’s lost the confidence of the House and if there is another alternative ready to govern with said confidence.

  10. ET, Dion may not know he is destroying the LPC, true enough. But then, also might realize it, and not care. Or even be doing it intentionally.
    Regardless, the effect is the same. The political capital he is squandering is hard won, easily lost, like trust.
    This is a very crafty political move by Layton. The center is occupied well by the CPC, which is not about to move right anytime soon. Jack owns the left, where is there room for the LPC, and with such a weak leader, what better time to drive a wooden stake?
    It looks as though there is only upside for Jack and the NDP.
    I am surprised that the graybeards of the LPC did not see this, and step in. This coalition has brought the NDP camel’s nose into the tent. The LPC should have pushed the NDP even further left.
    By focusing all of their venom on Harper, they have missed their real threat: Jack and the NDP.

  13. It’s quite surprising how many people don’t know the liberals were the party that decided to fund the separatist Bloc.
    They don’t know that their tax dollars provide 86% of the Bloc’s funding.
    And they get quite bent out of shape when the find that out.
    Why would the liberals decide to fund the Bloc?
    Did they need the separatist boogyman to scare the voters?
    Without 86% of their funding, the bloc would have withered and died but that would have left the liberals without a separatist dragon to slay.
    The real spark of this crisis was when Harper decided that the government of Canada should not fund any of the political parties, including the Bloc.
    The bloc only raise 14% of their funding from donors, by removing yours and my tax dollars from the separatist bank account they would disappear and cease to be such a threat to Canada.
    Cutting their funding is a great idea, but it was roundly rejected by the liberals and the NDP and was the spark that started this crisis.

  16. Fact is, the issue of a coalition came up in the final weeks of the election campaign. At that time the idea was scrubbed by both the Libs and the ND’s. So, it is completely unethical and dishonest for “coalition” supporters to try to say that a coalition now is a reasonable solution.
    There is virtually no doubt that the voting patterns would have changed during the election if the concept of a coalition had been agreed to. So any coalition now is illegitimate.
    In any event, Dion is one of the biggest losers I have ever seen in the political arena.

  18. Considering that the vast majority of important appointments, decisons etc. come from the PM’s office, to say you don’t vote for him is idiotic. I couldn’t even tell you the names of the candidates that run in my riding because they are irrelevent.
    And yes I know how the ‘effing system works. We are 150 years removed from Britain. In this country, when a minority government loses confidence of the house, we have an election, not a palace coup.
    Obviously the laws need to be changed since the scumbag politicians have forgotten the difference between legal and right.

  21. I cannot stress strongly enough the SEVERE DAMAGE that this coalition will do to our country if it actually succeeds in securing power. Mark my word, the effect of this on our country will be devestating because of the reaction from the West. This is not an idle threat. With this Eastern power grad the West is being severely disenfranchised. Easterners and leftards may not think this is a big deal but they must realize that it is. It has taken us a long time to get to the point where we have legitimacy and financial power. Now that we are there we are not about to relinquish it.
    This Troika a Twits is talking about a “Cap & Trade” system aimed squarley at Western Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan in particular. No way, baby! Not this time! It is not going to happen. Ralph Goodale is a full partner and player in making this happen and he has to be defeated in the next election. He could not care less about the West.

  24. I am so disgusted by CBC and CTV, They are going on and on and on about how the poor people in Quebec are feeling about Harper warning about instability if separtists hold the balance of power for our federal government and the whole country.
    Nowhere do I hear them worrying about how Western Canadians feel about this travesty.
    You know, the people who are going to be PAYING for the bribes to the BLOC.
    Anybody else catching this?
    Why even bother with caring about national unity anymore.

  26. stan, I agree with you that the Liberals enabled and supported the Bloc; they did this as an election strategy. They set up the Bloc and then, defined themselves as The Only Way to keep Canada united and Fight Against The Bloc. Neat, eh?
    So, they use taxpayer money to enable the Bloc to exist – whose MPs happily take their salaries and benefits and pensions from the Canadian taxpayer – and serve to actually get the Liberals votes in, particularly, Ontario. Ontario was set up as Liberal because the Liberals defined themselves as The Only Party to Keep Canada United.
    As for your assertion that Harper’s withdrawal of taxpayer funds was the catalyst, you are ignoring that this putsch was in the works for months. I claim that the agenda was to keep it hidden (the NDP-Liberal-Bloc Hidden Agenda) until the day of the Budget. Then, suddenly, defeat the govt and immediately announce that they had a plan, were all set, and there was no need for an election.
    Harper knew about their plan; he had to make them put that plan out to the public. Something they had no intention of doing..as they wanted the element of surprise and ‘no time to think’. The only way to get them to react was a measure that would really shake them up – that was the stopping funding to what is their only interest – themselves. They fell for it – and announced their plan…but now, we have the time to criticize it and see how terrible and frankly, evil it is.

  31. I’ve been thinking about Dion’s video address,,, and something smells here!!! Professionals at that level don’t slap something together that poorly when so much is on the line. I think Iggy or one of his supporters were running the video camera(cell phone?) with the purpose of sabotaging Dion, making him look like a ‘two bit hustler’, for the sole purpose of having the coalition fall apart. This would provide two things for Iggy. 1)it would keep him(Iggy) from officially being in a coalition government with the Bloc and 2)it would save him from voting against Dion and publicly splitting the LPC

  41. There was absolutely NO introduction from Dion, it looked like they just cut in at the middle of his speech.
    The media was under the impression that Harper would give a 10 minute speech, and ended up giving a speech under 5 minutes. In the interest of fairness I bet the CBC had to tell Dion to trim down his own 10 minute message, and they cut in mid message and kept the end.

    – Long, knobby brown thing that looks suspiciously like a French baguette
    – Old photo of people in uniform: I say it is French president DeGaulle saying his infamous “vive le Quebec libre” in Quebec City.

    – Book “Hot Air” by G&M columnist Jeffrey Simpson, about global warming.
    Conspicuously missing is evidence, any evidence, that he speaks for the Liberal Party and not only for himself. Pitiful.

  45. Percentages mean squat in the parliamentary system. You can bend the percentages of the popular vote all you want, it’s the number of seats that count, and the Liberals combined with the NDP did not win as many seats as the Tories, and that is that.

Can we all spell “AdScam”? This is NOT about our economy and NOT about ordinary Canadians.
