Senior Ignatieff insiders are tantalizingly whispering to Bourque that the Toronto MP is having grave doubts about supporting the shocking Dion coalition bid, now labelled by many as the “Separatist Coalition”, given the defining support it has from both the BQ’s Gilles Duceppe and former PQ Premier Jacques Parizeau.One longtime senior Ignatieff backer, under condition of anonymity, confided that “Michael is in a tenuous situation and he is feeling a lot of heat from caucus colleagues and constituents alike. Frankly, we think we got snookered by Bob Rae on this one”. It nets out to this, according to this longtime Liberal and echoed by many other key backroom players: ordinary Liberals across the country, the card-carrying bbq-ing door-knocking envelope-stuffing phone-banking kind who make up the backbone of the party and who would need to be counted on to support his leadership aspirations, are vehemently rejecting the Dion argument that a deal with the separatist Bloc Quebecois is in the best interests of Canada. “Bullshit”, said one Liberal power-broker, who was quick to point out Dion is tilting at Liberal history for the sake of a short stint at 24 Sussex. “Dion is nuts”, he told Bourque, “I am ashamed he is leading the party of Laurier, Pearson, Trudeau, and Chretien – my God, Chretien, the guy who poured out his federalist heart against Rene Levesque’s country-killing forces so long ago – I am ashamed Dion is selling us out.”.

Jim Prentice was unequivocal to Mike Duffy, PMSH has support of the entire Conservative caucus as well as all conservatives in Canada.
Why the hell would anyone give Chretien any credibility in this fiasco when he was called in for advice by the plotters? He had to be OK with the Bloc being part of the troika. Now we hear about Parizeau resurfacing to support Dupe Dion. Wow, what a shmess!
This is proving to be some roler-coaster ride. First the con’s come out with scrapping the 1.95 (which all along I and it seem like lots of other people thought was 1.75) and I think yeah I can vote again. I might even vote con. The trouble with voting against is that your giving some turkey 1.95, about 10 bucks more than their worth.
Then the seperatists threaten to take over parliment. The last time the LPC & NDP got together they gave us aprox 30 years of deficit financing and a $600 billion debt. You can take it to the bank that the $30 billion would shoot up to $40 with the other $10 being blamed on the cons underhanded accounting. Anyway when I got my blood pressure and heart rate under controll I started thing that this could be a good thing, it could be the straw that broke the cammels back. It could get the west out of Canada.
Then that goof Harper backs down. What the hell’s with that? If he believed that it was the right thing to do he should have stood his ground. If he didn’t believe it was right why did he do it in the first place.
Now if speculation is right Iggy the Lib may come out the hero.
I don’t put any faith in the GG doing the right thing, she was bought and paid for by the weasel Martin and the Libs.
So where’s this roler-coaster going next?

This is a golden opportunity, perhaps an historic moment for Ignatieff to grow a pair and drag the Liberal Party back from the edge of the abyss.
Out of all the Liberals, Ignatieff is the only one who can purge the party of the creeping socialist takeover and bring it back to the centre.

The Conservatives have money to fight a new election. The other parties do not. And they won’t run as a coalition.
Harper’s biggest dilemma can easily be spun. Whether one believes that Harper made a partisan mistake in attempting to publicly defund MP’s, or not, is easily taken care of. Namely, in these uncertain economic times, elected officials must share the burden. Austerity all around. Public officials should not be protected by taxpayer money. Especially when those taxpayers are losing their jobs, if not their shirts.
Dion’s ego knows no bounds. He had the most disgraceful election result of any Liberal leader ever. Rather than bowing out with honour (if he understands that word) and attempting to rebuild his reputation, he’d rather destroy the Liberals for good, in order for his disgusting ego to enjoy a couple of months playing PM.
Let Dion stand as Canada’s Benedict Arnold. Let his name live in shame forever.

I agree that the gossip amongst MSM windbags re. Harper’s future allegedly somehow being “in doubt” and so on and so forth is pure nonsense.
But not surprising. Those windbags are to be expected to spin the whole thing against Harper and the Conservatives, even though it’s the Leftists who are the ones in big, big trouble in terms of public esteem and electoral support now.

To echo the sentiments above, even the Libs I know think this is a complete disgrace. I NEVER talk politics at work, because I am pretty much alone in my right wing/libertarian ideas, but we have been talking about this and NO ONE supports what’s going on.
Still, no matter how things fall out, PMSH has been tainted by this. I still strongly support him, but I am looking at the bigger picture outside the CPC and conservative blogosphere bubble, and his aura of invincibility and superior political skill has been broken.

The Government has not backslid on budget proposals, they are waiting for Obama to make his move and collaborate the amount they have to kick in. Obama doesn’t take office till Jan. 27. Unfortunately, those car plants aren’t owned by the Canadian government. They have always been a US company until Daimler took over Chrysler. Daimler being a German Co. Hell Mr Ford and Mr Chrysler both lived in Detroit and many of their family still resides in Michigan.
Now, Obama who is a protectionist, could very well order those companies back on American soil as part of his bailout package. If the Coalition Against Harper is to take power because it is the right thing to do for the people of Canada, then the GG must dissolve parliament and call an election, so the Coalition, not as separate/separtist parties, can, democratically, take their so-called economic stimulus/bailout to the people of Canada.
Colour me skeptical. This sounds more like ‘wishful thinking,’ than reporting. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Greg Weston on MDL said Ignatieff left the first coalition meeting smiling like the Cheshire Cat, and therefore initially supported the coalition.
If you think Iggy’s cut from different cloth than the rest of the Liberals, think again. He may be the only one smart enough to realize what the long term ramifications will be for supporting this coup. That might explain his backtracking and his claim to have been hoodwinked by Bob Rae.

Radio Canada and the Téléjournal are twisting the news as they did during the last election campaign to make Harper look like someone who will stop at nothing to keep power, while the coalition leaders are a bunch of idealistic savers of the little people.

Although I haven’t researched it, I wonder if there’s any inconsistency in the Big-Four’s(Lib, NDP, Bloc, Green) acquiescence to the monarchy, in this case the GG who is the “Queens representative” in Canada. My understanding of the “left’s” politics is that they have been somewhat opposed to the Royal arrangement, until now at which time they’re happy to invoke some kind of requirement for royal assent precedent.
Priorities for the GG:
To prorogue or not to prorogue; what a bunch of constitutional bs that the usurpers have brought to us.
Unless the coup’sters are willing to weather an election, tell them to pound salt – it’s the Canadian way.

Lori, this hasn’t been played out yet. It may be the boldest and most necessary move the PM could make.
These times require a majority government. They require Conservative fiscal responsibility. A steady hand. Not a minority. And certainly not THE BASTARD CHILD FROM A MENAGE A TROIS FROM HELL.
Think about how this is exposing the real motivations of the players involved.
This has far more potential in destroying the Liberals than any other party. While severely damaging the other two.
If they form a Dion/socialist/separatist coalition it will destroy the Liberal’s federalist credibility, western credibility and centrist credibility. They will never recover. In fact, the damage may have already been done.
If this ends up as an election – who will the Liberals run as a leader? Where will they get money to run an election, given they’re in heavy debt from the last one?
For that matter will the NDP and Bloc get funding? The NDP borrowed $18 million to run their last election, attempting to make Jack the official opposition. Who is going to lend them more?

Was one of the reasons that Chretien decided to fund the Bloc along with the other parties that the liberals needed a separatist movement they could claim to be fighting?
They get 86% of their funding from you and me, only 14% from donors.
Did Chretien want them to stick around so the liberals could always be claiming to be standing up for Canada?
Seems to me that if they only get 14% of their funding from donors they would fade away without yours and my tax dollars propping them up.
A couple of thoughts:
1. Russel Crowe’s character in Gladiator offering direction to his colonel at the beginning as they’re lining up against the Germanic tribes. “On my signal, unleash Hell.” With today’s radio adds and the PMSH’s attacks in the HoC re Libs lining up with separatists, I think it’s begun.
2. Just watched the first half of Mike Duffy Live and as I listened, I kept envisioning mushrooms clouds developing over LPC headquarters. Mike D saying to Jim Prentice that Iggy’s people having second thoughts, caught in a mousetrap. Jim replying that it’s a big mousetrap.
3. If we go to another election soon, how can the Libs finance it? Wouldn’t the Libs be considered sub-prime candidates? hehe.
4. Given the recent developments and the way things seem to be turning against the coalition, I can’t help but engage in wishful thinking that SH had this planned all along. Like a bullfighter who gets the bull so incensed, (party financing, unions), when it charges (coalition talks) it fails to grasp the futility of its actions (Libs forever tied to Bloc)
5. I’m still shaking in my core, but the way I see this turning out, I’m gonna offer up two “atta boys” to PMSH.
If there’s any truth to this, we should bombard Ignatieff. I just emailed him. If there is actually any remaining trace of decency in the man (the Liberal party destroys such decency given enough exposure), an outpour of pleas from Canadians for him to stop this just might have an effect.
I’ve emailed my MP, a Liberal, twice. I emailed the GG. I’m going to the rally in Halifax on Saturday (this is a politically lazy and socialist city, though; who knows what the turnout will be). How much more can we do?

I’m not really sure why the Liberals are against the public financing cuts. It would eliminate two of their competitors (Bloc, Greens) and hurt the NDP.
Besides, sooner or later they have to switch to private fund raising and the more they delay it the worse it’ll be. Of course, they have a lot of debt but that’s because of Dion.
Dion has proven he has the worst long-term health of his party at heart. I personally think there will be a mutiny.
I voted for this coalition back on October 14, as did a majority of voters in the country, but accepted Harper as Prime Minister. He has nobody to blame but his own power-hungry stupidity, as you all know very well. What is happening now is normal parlaimentary procedure, and one that will produce a result that most Canadians desire. The Conservative party’s current fainting-fit is a squalid attempt to use scare tactics and outright lies to save Stephen Harper’s skin. It is too late. Everyone is laughing at him now (no Canadian flags??). He’s done.
