Not Waiting For The Asteroid

But what about all the Obama gear that newspapers from the New York Times to the Los Angeles Times and Washington Post are selling? Can you really hawk Obama T-shirts, coffee mugs, framed front pages and maintain …
… any sense of journalistic impartiality?”

  1. “A similar “wall” has been maintained for decades between news and advertising departments” – from the article.
Hard to remember now, but that was the big worry when i was in the news business, keeping our selves saintly and pure, above all them greedy ad folks who got commission.
There were fights, but it usually worked; the ad guys were smart enough to know the product just went downhill if you sold out for a cheap ad. It wasn’t worth it.
So what happens? Now the editorial departments sell their souls without a thought and the ad people are probably pissed to see so many potential clients leave as the product deteriorates.

  2. Get your Obama as God pins now. They will be worth a fortune as the s*&t happens and Barrack goes down the tubes!
    As too impartilaty.NOT

  3. Each morning I walk by the New York Times building, and they actually have a stand selling their 11/5 paper announcing the annointed “one”. The NY Post (arguably Conservative) is the most egregious in their advertising for trailer park type crap.
In fact, there are stands all over the city of enterprising folks selling everything from Obama Ski hats to “Change you can believe in” posters.

  4. Obama and his party may become a ubiquitous as Stalin and the Bolshevik hammer and sickle.
(there, I managed to keep Godwin’s Law)

  5. I thought capalitism was a bad thing or is that another “Yes but not if liberals do it” thing?

  6. That reminded me of this:

Business contract between bigwig celebrity Leftist pretty-face propaganda tool Angelina Jolie and People Magazine: Baby pix in exchange for millions of dollars, plus all-positive/never-negative coverage of the Jolie/Pitt family…
Oh, and I’m also reminded of this post I did during the election (graphic proof of bias at US Magazine):

  7. No, but what is your point here, Kate?

Well, “jlc”, for me, the point is that this is evidence of the bias on the part of those major Leftist/pro-Obama MSM papers. It also raises questions about their role in the Obama propaganda machine that mesmerized people into voting for him even though they didn’t know a bloody thing about him or McCain.
Of course, the point will obviously be lost on Leftists who see nothing wrong with the media being Leftist and pro-Obama, for they think being pro-Obama is pretty much normal and appropriate, sort of like being pro-anything warm & fuzzy, you know, and that being the opposite makes one a nasty meanie… how can anyone be against warm and fuzzy? It’s like liking kittens and puppies, they’re led to think… they just MUST, if they’re nice, normal folks, like the warm-and-fuzzy, cute-and-cuddly Obama; gotta vote for him for the sake of niceness and smiley faces and stuff like that… must go vote Obama, Obama, Obama… Who cares if we don’t know what he has in store for America and the world? He’s cool, popular, the Big Cool Guy we’re all supposed to love and all that… so vote Obama… there’s no one else; no need to pay any attention to anyone else!
They may as well have voted for “Kittens and Puppies”… who cares whether kittens and puppies can run a country, either…

  8. The big irony is that Obama is likely to bring the “Fairness Doctrine” forward. Waaaaaay over the top, no JLC?

  9. CS – At Kate’s place, I didn’t think I’d need to state that I was being sarcaustic.
MY point was that I expect no less (or no more) from the MSM.

  11. Talk about selling your soul. However, does this suprise anyone? Newspapers are stooping to the same low common denominator as TV ‘newscasts’ which devote airtime to who got voted off the latest reality show. News is entertainment and entertainment is news. Edward R. Murrow must be whirling around like a drill bit.
