Age Of Obama

Michelle Malkin, from a lengthy post;

In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the [vice-presidential] debate. She would be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on January 20, 2009 – a date that just happens to coincide with the inauguration of the next president of the United States.
The title of Ifill’s book? “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” Nonpartisan my foot.

I’m with the many others who think Palin should open the debate by congratulating Ifill on her book.

VP Debate Moderator Pens Pro-Obama Book
WASHINGTON: Gwen Ifill, who is moderating Thursday’s vice-presidential debate, is releasing a book on Barack Obama and other young black politicians who are “forging a bold new path to political power.”
Best Comment to the FoxNews story:
“since gwen ifill is in the tank for obama, I think rush limbaugh should be her replacement. after all fair is fair.”
What a farce, as if people are not going to see through this transparent novella.
Money for nothing and cheques for free…

  2. I think the moderator should be Karl Rove. Could you imagine the shrieking of the moonbats if that were true?
While she’s at it, Palin should comment on Biden’s extensive knowledge of the history of the great depression and the invention of the televsion.

  3. Kate said: “I’m with the many others who think the first thing Palin should open the debate by congratulating Ifill on her book.”
Naw. She should open the debate with “Hi Gwenny, I’m Sarah Palin” followed by major head butt, followed by chasing good ol’ Joe Biden all around the stage and kicking him square in the whatsit.
That’d be my dream opening. Some of us just never grow up, eh? ~:D

  4. Journalism can’t be regarded as a profession.
Professions have standards, ethical codes, and most importantly consequences for breathing their obligations. Journalism has none of these things.

  5. Listening to the Dennis Miller radio show, they had the best advice yet;
Palin should ask Ifill if she will autograph a copy of her new book. Sign it to the future VP of the United States

  6. I see Ifill is upping the ante – last time around she was just an icompetent moderator. Now she’s going for complete bias.

  7. Hugh Hewitt had Sarah on briefly on his Monday’s show and asked her about her treatment by the media. Sarah commented that her degree was in journalism but she just figured media ethics had seriously changed since she was in school.

  8. Can’t wait to read the one line astroturf comment from the Obama campaign on this thread.

  9. Warwick in correct. Any professional would not allow themselves to be in this type of conflict of interest. A professional would have declined the role if only for the sake of preserving their own reputation.

  10. Isn’t it just like the impartial panels the CBC presents to the public. The programed questions and eye rolling when the “unchosen ones” give an opinion.
But the most accurate quote of the whole election, in my view,is, I would sooner trust a tax cutting x fighter pilot than a tax the rich x social worker.

  11. We all know the make up of a CBC discussion panel Western.
Someone from the left, someone from the far left and someone from the lunatic left, all moderated by some impartial soul like Avi Lewis or Carol MacNeil.

  12. When I watched Ifill on NBC the night of the Palin speech I assumed she was a Democrat spokeswoman. She was openly stumping for the Dems. I had no idea she was a journalist.
Now she’s going to moderate the VP debate? Wow.

  13. Perhaps Ms. Ifill could ask Mr. Biden why he agreed to run with a man who’s closest friends helped push the US economy to the brink.

Sorry if that link has been posted before, but I hadn’t noticed it on this site (though I haven’t been reading as closely as usual due to illness).

  14. Indiana Homez, good point, why didn’t Ifill excuse herself with her glaring conflict of interest? Oh, I forgot, she missed the three minutes devoted to ethics in her journo school years ago.

  15. there has not been an actual debate in any political form in my entire life. why the hell bother. shoot the sound bites and let the idiots vote based on them. they will anyway.

  16. Correction: If she’s so toxic, why did the Republicans agree to her, again?
She moderated the Cheney-Edwards debate in 2004 so she has some experience in this. No surprise the Palin supporters don’t think experience matters.

  17. I couldn’t care less who wins the US election; either Obama will begin rehabilitation of the good parts of America, or McCain will put the final nail in the coffin of the bad.
BUT I sure do love me some dumb-ass Palin moments. Nothing goes better together than a rocket fuel coffee with a full day’s work, and back-to-back commentary on the latest moronic ramblings playing in the background. Now that’s entertainment! The last time I had this much fun watching someone make an idiot of themselves was Miss South Carolina, and she only lasted a minute! This one goes on, and on, and on!

  18. Sure seems anon you’ve quite the fixation for the dis Palin tirade.
You do realize that this is a Canadian blog right?
Day after day post after post…what’s up with that?
Always serving it up with a little chuckle ’bout it all, as if to make it appear lighthearted but yet you persist with anything related to her in a rather demeaning and personal way.
    A tad obsessive are we?
Humors me nonetheless that you do.

  19. “No surprise the Palin supporters don’t think experience matters.”
I saw an interesting comparison this weekend between Brett Favre and Aaron Rogers. It was comical, no offense to Rogers but Favre’s accomplishments we’re staggering compared to Rogers. The comparison looked a little like this:
    Consecutive starts: Rogers(4) Favre(257)
    TD’s: Rogers(7) Favre(454)
    Wins: Rogers(2) Favre(160)
Relevance? Let substitute Obama for Rogers and McCain for Favre, the list may look something like this:
    Economics:
    Obama
voted for tax increases 40 times while a Senator, and promises to raise taxes as POTUS.
    McCain
voted for the Bush tax cuts which increased revenues and promises to make these cuts permanent. Promises to FREEZE new spending.
    Leadership:
    Obama
Community organizer, voted “present” 160 times in the Senate.
    McCain
Officer in the Navy, 20+ yrs in Congress/Senate, supported Iraq surge against popular opinion.
    Commander in Chief Qualifications:
    Obama
Associates with known terrorists and racists. This inside knowledge may give Obama intimate knowledge of terror tactics.
    McCain
American War vet, part of government and decision making role in foreign policy for 20+ yrs.
    Trust:
    Obama
People in Obama’s personal circle are on record as loathing the United States(wife, J.Wright, Ayers).
    McCain
American Hero, there is no question wrt loyalty here.
This comparison between Favre and Rogers is analogous to that of J.McCain and B.Obama. WRT S.Palin if we were talking about % she would be infinitely more qualified than any of the candidates for POTUS considering executive experience.
I’m sure you know this already Ted, but you spew your nonsense strategically because you understand this tactic works on those you hope will vote for O, the intellectually lazy.
This race is close, even Democrats understand that O must have a 5-7pt lead going into election day. Hidden racism in the Democratic party will cost O about that many pts. behind the curtain. I wonder how many closet GOP chauvinists will flip-flop on election day and vote for the O :-p

  20. Oh please oh please oh please vote in McCain/Palin. The schadenfreude is bordering on orgasmic.

  21. Michelle Malkin – Republican blog Nazi?
She is a well-known Conservative blogger. I just didn’t realize how fanatical she has become.I would have assumed in today’s world, people would welcome comments; engage in debate but alas this female “blog Nazi”(reference to “soup Nazi” from Seinfeld) restricts all free thought.
Did you read Michelle Malkin’s Terms of Use agreement on her blog.
What is wrong with you fanatical right-wingers? Can’t handle a reasonable debate. At least I can post on Small Dead Animals.
Talk about Hidden Racism in the REPUBLICAN campaign. Noticed that they return campaign funds from people with Islamic names. Check it out on campaign financing.
I wouldn’t care less if Michelle Maklin was moderator. VP candidates have to answer questions, hard questions. They can’t hide in some little state like Alaska and look across the Strait, wave hello to the Russians and claim foreign experience. Frick, do you guys have a hearing problem?
What do you want out of a moderator? Someone to ask Palin how she would bake an American Apple Pie? At least she might not screw up that question.

  22. anon,
I can’t wait to watch Biden kick that drooling retard Palin’s ass in the debate tomorrow. That will be something. I understand that her IQ is so low that sometimes when she has to do her times tables, her heart stops. Trig? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  23. Well, I wouldn’t have gone as far as to make fun of her newest born.
Not really sure I get the heart stopping when she does her times tables, either.
Maybe leave the funny stuff up to the experts next time.

  24. Ted: “If she’s so toxic, why did the Republicans agree to her?”
    What do you think, Ted?
I suspect if the Republicans objected they’d be accused of being against her because she’s a woman (remember Ellie May?) or because they’re racist.
The GOP would have been between a rock and a hard place–where they still are with Ifill “moderating” (sic) this debate. But at least they won’t be tarred and feathered with being sexist or racist or both.

  25. Au contraire!
I’d like this moderator to be as blatantly biased as possible. Look at it this way:
The MSM are overwhelmingly in the tank for the Dems in the US and the Libs in Canada.
The only weapon they have is the information they dump into peoples brains on an ongoing basis. But powerful as it is, information is a two-way street; it’s only good if the recipient believes it. More and more regular folks give less and less credibility to anything the MSM says.
The more vile spew and blatant bias that comes out, the more the only weapon the left has is blunted.
Let them hoist on their own petard.
The adults will see through the crap and know Sarah Palin for the credible person she is, while becoming even more disgusted with the left and their media allies.
The lefts’ ignorance is exceeded only by their arrogance. Let them prove it to as many people as possible!

  26. “Talk about Hidden Racism in the REPUBLICAN campaign.”
    FFD
I think you are missing MY point. I didn’t follow your link because it is irrelevant to my point, my point was that negative views on blacks held by 30% of Dem voters will cost O votes on election day. I will accept your premise(for conversations sake) that there is racism in the GOP; but, I don’t see how that will affect Republican voters in November.
The affect of racism in typical Democratic voters will effect how they vote, the proof is in the pudding (see the Bradley effect)and the Democrats acknowledge this themselves.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_effect

  27. Amazing that a non-biased woman of colour (fill in appropriate PC description) will have a book written and ready for publication by inauguration day, not having started it yet. How does she find the time to moderate the debate (non-biased, natch)?

  28. Tim aren’t you a nasty bigot. Unless you’re kidding, then your a not funny and nasty bigot.

  29. Gwen Ifill did not prove during the Republican National Convention that she was able to be non-partisan. Whenever she reported about Sarah Palin from the floor to Jim Lehrer in the NewsHour booth, she had the Gwen Grimace on her face. Her expression said it all, and it was full of contempt–this from, supposedly, a seasoned “professional.”
I wasn’t the only one who noticed it. There were many comments on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer Online Web site, expressing disappointment in Ifill’s obvious partisan bias.
The next day, and for the rest of the RNC, Gwen Ifill did not appear. It’s pretty clear that she was pulled–something that never happens at the CBC.
Ifill has made it abundantly clear what her feelings are about Governor Palin which makes it all the more puzzling why she has been chosen to be the moderator for the VP candidates’ debate. I mean, it’s not as though there aren’t countless other more competent, less partisan members of the American MSM on which to call.

  30. Anyone hear remember the SCTV episode from the early 80’s where Earl Camombert moderated an election debate between Johnny Larue and two other candidates, even though he was running Larue’s campaign? After Earl gushes over Larue’s casino/bird sanctuary idea, the Dave Thomas character loses it, calling the whole debate a farce. And now, in 2008, we have this!!! Wow!!!

  31. Indiana Homez
**** , my point was that negative views on blacks held by 30% of Dem ******
yah, but, if you factor out the “blacks” the % of white democraps rises to about the same level as the GOP numbers in this area:-))))
I know it won’t change the voting day effect, just that it’s interesting in that the “white dems” are usually the ones screaming RACIST

  32. Palin is being held back by being a good soldier.
McCain can’t have helped but have been a little puckish over the fact the election circus main light shifted from him to Palin. Some even calling for her to be President. McCain is trying to regain a High powered profile again. While this goes on Palin has been regulated to parroting the party line. Be as non controversial as possible & don‘t rock the boat.
Saul has slain his hundreds, David has slain his thousands. Get the picture?

  33. Though normally I write from my home in Vancouver, this week I’m down in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve had the opportunity to talk with LOTS of Americans, visiting from all over.
What’s perhaps most surprising is that a majority of those I’ve spoken with believe that their MSM is right down the center, with no bias whatsoever. In every case I did a double-take and said “Huh?!?”
Talking with these folks was much like talking with many Canadians back home who are convinced that CBC News offers up “the truth” every day.
It’s not difficult to envision how propaganda underneath of Hitler and Stalin was so incredibly effective.

  34. Sorry if anybody took offense, but I have just decided that I should believe everything I read in the MSM. This seems to be the general impression, I was just repeating it.
My former self used to believe that being governor qualified one for the VP position. That successfully running a state with an incredibly high approval rating that crossed party lines was a recomendation, and that taking on a corrupt old boy’s network and getting a natural gas pipeline that the US really needs built, through international negotiations counted for something. But I was wrong. Now I see the light. I see that 140 days in the Senate, after a short stint as a state legistlature where ones records have been destroyed is the superior qualification.

  35. “Not really sure I get the heart stopping when she does her times tables, either.”
Since I don’t get paid for my jokes, I am not required to make sure that even the slow of wit get them.

  36. anon,
One more thing, if you don’t like smears of Palin’s newborn son, I suggest you start with your side, instead of criticising posts whose irony flies over your head. maybe you didn’t get it because you didn’t know that the smears against Trig come from your side. Here is Michael Moore on the subject of Palin’s baby:
    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2072395/posts
You will excuse the link to free republic, but Michael Moore took the link down once even he realized how disgusting it was. Kind of like when he wrote his crie de cour after 9-11 about how New York and Boston were Democrats, “Why did bin Laden attack them, when it was Republicans who deserved to die?”
So spare me the commentary on beneath the belt rhetoric.

  37. It’s not Palin’s fault she spouts gibberish, evil people insist on asking her such hard questions.

  38. “evil people insist on asking her such hard questions” – Jose the astroturfer.
Name three hard questions asked of Obama.
Name one actual, tangible accomplishment aside from winning the nomination.
Give a complete, in context “gibberish” reply by Palin to any question asked of her.
You can’t do any of the above.

  39. you people really are retarded?
She was chosen as moderator because McCain and politicians from both parties like and respect her. They were aware of her book for months now and politicians from both parties will tell you that PBS Newshour is the most serious, intelligent and respectful news program in the US. Malkin and Druge started this crap to try and preemptively defend and distract from a possible bad performance by Palin.

  40. There is clinical evidence as to which side is retarded.

an associate professor of moral psychology at the University of Virginia, argues in an essay this month, “What Makes People Vote Republican?”, that it’s liberals, in fact, who are dangerously blind.
Haidt has conducted research in which liberals and conservatives were asked to project themselves into the minds of their opponents and answer questions about their moral reasoning. Conservatives, he said, prove quite adept at thinking like liberals, but liberals are consistently incapable of understanding the conservative point of view. “Liberals feel contempt for the conservative moral view, and that is very, very angering. Republicans are good at exploiting that anger,” he told me in a phone interview.

    http://warner.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/11/no-laughing-matter/
The above applies to Ifill as well. Just be careful before you go calling people “retarded” because you can’t understand their point of view.
