Audiences gathered around tables in a local pub Monday night to make a long overdue point about St.John’s actor Mary Walsh.
Volunteers dressed as Princess Warrior Marg Delahunty took turns on stage to denounce conservatives of varying political persuasions, in recognition of Walsh’s recent attention seeking behaviour.
Participants at the event were invited to “change the channel” on supplied TV remotes — like they do at home when witnessing the real life version of a saggy, bitter taxpayer subsidized never-was drag her worn schtick through the political weeds on their dime.“I thought, ‘Well, there’s not very much anyone can do, I suppose, but I could go down and sit on my hands until she goes away,’ ” an audience participant told a CBC reporter in attendance.

Maybe Dion will toss her in as a last minute replacement for Leslie Hughes!
Maybe Hughes will now appear on CBC as a “comedy” act?
Maybe … since Stephie and Bessy May seem to be working strategically …. Walsh will become the candidate for Central Nova ??
Or maybe this sad sack of skin will just disappear forever…..
“This Candian thunder thighs is about as funny as someone sticking a broom handle into a rolling wheel chair.”
I didn’t find her funny at all! I don’t get your comment, surely you find “sticking a broom handle into a rolling wheel chair.” funny.
I don’t understand why the CBC is responsible for (or ashamed of) Mary Walsh. She has her opinion and she expressed it. You may not agree with it, or the way she expressed it, but in a democracy that will happen. Nor does someone disagreeing with you make them a hack, sick, sad or misinformed.
Secondly, it is clear that too many people don’t have the vaguest idea of Arts Funding in Canada or how the CBC works. As a nationally funded broadcaster with a mandate for Canadian content it is likely to be the biggest employer of people in the broadcasting–that is likely why so many journalists and actors end up on or cycle through the CBC. It is also why so many carpenters, electricians, technicians, etc, have jobs.
If you feel that the CBC is truly is favouring the Liberals too much, contact the CRTC and file a complaint. I think you’re wrong of course. Conservatives have a remarkable ability to focus on things they disagree with and forget what they do agree with.
Oh, btw, Canadians pay about $33 per capita on the CBC. In my books that’s really good value.
Isn’t “Delahunty” misspelled? Seems to be a surplus an H and lacking a C.
Haven’t watched CBC for years and I am missing nothing.
aaron,
if you’re such a big fan why don’t you send me $33.00 – that’s my hard-earned contribution that i don’t have a say in.
i still won’t be watching.
much appreciated.
Indiana Homez..please re-read the statement that you commented on again, you may find it more clear the second time.
Do you lefties want to know why we Conservatives have a ‘take no prisoners’ attitude when it comes to your insults?
It is because they always come dressed as a thinly veiled screed, meant to hurt and embarrass.
From Robert Stanfield to Preston Manning to Stockwell Day, to now Stephen Harper, this has been the modus operandi for Liberals.
When it comes to vicious attacks, there is no one more capable and practiced than a leftist. When there is no policy to call home, vile rhetoric becomes the only refuge for those devoid of original thought.
Liberals (and the left in general..) are dangerous for this country. It does my heart glad that there are those who wish to bankrupt the Liberals financially and spiritually. It may take some time, but the liberals will one day be treading in political backwaters.
Will the last Liberal party member remember to shut the lights off before you go over to kneel at the foot of your new leftist political masters, the NDP?
Having to think of Mary Walsh always brings up the vile image of J. Edgar Hoover in his pink too too, belly dancing. They look so similar.
Arron(head)…the CBC is a national broadcaster..blah..blah..blah…Would be fine, if as the VP pointed out, they had diversity of opinion…
Once the CPC wins, and two tectonic shit plates collide, there is gonna be a shitquake at CBC…
I heard there were crabs not only on the beach but also in the saggy warrior princess suit…hope they don’t migrate to the moustache, she’ll really lose it…
I was just watching Dancing with the Stars…question..who would you rather?
Cloris Leachmann or Mary Walsh?
Mos,,you cant pick both
The problem in this country is a no talent, nobody like Walsh get’s our money and get’s to spew her garbage nation wide because she’s a leftard media whore and the CBC is her pimp.
Glenn: “Most people grasp this instinctively, without any need to have it explained, because they are capable of empathizing.” Empathizing with WHAT? I think there is a logical disconnect here. I mean — call me a sociopath if you like, but if I disagree with the basic characterization of Harper in this “humor” piece, then I just ain’t going to find it funny. It has very little to do with a lack of empathy for other people. Actually, I never found Mary Walsh funny even in my lefty days (before I was a sociopath). I think she must be an acquired taste — then again, maybe not so much.
it would take a bottle of Screech to make this trollop remotely funny……and that’s to laugh AT her, not with her………
It’s called the “comedy of shared assumptions”. It’s why Jon Stewart is so painfully unfunny, unless you happen to hate Republicans as much as he does.
“My question is where was the burning cross bearer – Heddy the Hag – fryer of Prince George – during this ‘fun fest?’ It sounds like her kind of party!

Jema, she’s driving a taxi, looking for burning crosses, dontcha know!
Mary Walsh is the crash test dummy of Canadian comedy. They just keep strappin’ her back in.
Atlantic Canada’s favorite gargoyle.
Whoever said that Mary Walsh is Canada’s answer to rosie O’Donnell was spot on. A comedienne that was once funny but after riding her one trick pony into the ground, becomes a bitter old biatch and resident expert on everything she knows diddly squat about.
The problem with Canadian satire comedy is that while it was once funny, it has stuck around long past it’s “Best Before” date only to fill a CRTC requirement. I used to love Air Farce on the radio way back when. It was irreverent and fresh at the time but now the humour seems to be lacking and replaced with slightly disguised ad homen attacks.
Glenn -get with the program and pay attention, we don’t find it funny because this kind of thing is always taxpayer funded and its never dished out equally to the left.
“Oh, btw, Canadians pay about $33 per capita on the CBC. In my books that’s really good value.”
How much does that work out to per taxpayer?
Hi, this is Glenn. To the simple minded, it may seem that what Mary Walsh did was an act, a comedy act if you will, an artistic display of art imitating life.
In the article, the CBC interviewed Greg Byrne who is running for the NL First party, a bunch of disgruntled, holier than thou PC’ers who have acquired HDS.
Greg states: “[Conservative supporters] follow the leader and they don’t think critically. They’re just taking this sweater-vest thing, like Mary is saying, [and] he’s biting his tongue now, because he wants to get a majority government,” Byrne said.
So what started out as a comedic event event has turned political outside of the art imitating life and when “conservatives” become critical of the charade we are called humourless. It is to laugh.
The original Glenn.
Funny enough Johnny online, there was an executive at the CBC who used to send personal cheques to people who complained about a show they didn’t like their tax money funding. It usually amounted to little more than pocket change. In this case, I’ll have to call us even though. I have little interest in hockey coverage and I’m sure you enjoy it. Johnny, you pay for the sports and I’ll pay for all the “lefty” programing you hate. If you still feel that you don’t have any say in the CBC, it should be pointed out that market forces DO play a role in programing at the CBC. Why do you think this is the last season of Air Farce? And even some of us Liberals think that’s a good thing. (My grandma likes it so maybe it is more of an age than political bent thing)
That $33 per capita pays for CBC Radio and CBC Television in both French and English. It is difficult to give a per tax payer figure.
Speaking of CBC Radio, in a radio interview with Rick Mercer, he says that Liberals accuse him of favouring the right as often as Conservatives accuse him of favouring the left. (He has been quite merciless with Dion.)
It makes sense that a political satire show would focus of the foibles of the party in power–if you’re going to mock politicians you mock the ones in power that your audience is aware of.
Diversity of opinion is present at the CBC. Perhaps it is because I watch the CBC I actually see it.
As for the poster who said that there is nothing more viscous than a lefty, I would like to point out that you rarely hear of a Liberal or NDP candidate being dropped because of some hate filled rant. I can’t say the same for the Tories. And as for the left being devoid of original thought–well, it wasn’t a lefty who was accused of plagiarism when it came to foreign policy was it?
Every time she burns a picture of Stephen Harper a polar bear dies!
David Suzuki, call your office.
“That $33 per capita pays for CBC Radio and CBC Television in both French and English. It is difficult to give a per tax payer figure.”
The $33 per capita figure is utterly useless. It means nothing. Quite obviously, for those that pay no taxes, for whatever reason, the CBC costs nothing. For the average taxpayer … quite a different story.
Actually, the $33 per capita figure is used more as a comparison with other countries. It would have been better for me to say that public broadcasting in Canada costs $33 per person. CBC television is about $9. The US only spends about $5 per capita on public broadcasting while Switzerland spends $154 and Britain spends $124.
The argument that, because some people don’t pay taxes, the average Canadian therefore spends more than $33 is, well, too simple. Taxes increase incrementally based on income. Yes, some people spend more than the per capita figure, but many people also spend less.
