This Marks The Moment That Harper Should Start Campaigning Against The NDP

Just to give the rope a final twist. Stephane Dion launches a whine offensive;

Asked about the polls, Dion lashed out at Harper for a campaign of character-assassination against him that has misrepresented him and his policies.
“Never has a government spent so much to destroy a person and his policies as Harper has towards me,” Dion said during a campaign event in Stoney Creek, Ont., just outside Hamilton.
He said the leaders’ debates Wednesday and Thursday will allow him to reach out to voters and illustrate that neither he nor his policies bear any resemblance to the picture painted by Harper and his party’s aggressive attack ads.
“I think Canadians are dying to vote Liberal,” he said.

Update! – I was actually joking about this with a friend a few moments before the story came up on the Star, in a “Dion goes Lizzy May” angle… Liberals urge strategic voting to stop Conservatives”.
Bwaaahaaahaaa!

  2. When I read these comments I play a little mind game with myself. Within the first sentence or two it is usually quite easy to spot “news” post. I then scroll to the end to see if I am right, which I always am. It is a little annoying though but then my mouse works quite well.
    Horny Toad

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha – stop, my stomach hurts. Keep posting the incomprehensible, idiotic drivel. Please note, if it’s more than 10 lines, I’ll skip it. But the short ones really make me laugh.

  4. I was going to offer a free, large, all-in pizza to the first person that can decipher one of ‘Newt’s’ opuses (opera) but then I thought “that’s just silly; then I’D have to read it to see if the answer was correct…no f’ing way!”

  5. New, please come clean and tell us who you really are and what your damage is.It will be very cathartic.
We don’t buy your act, and as a former Intel officer, i can tell a few things about you, my friend.
Would you like to guess what i know about you, and why you do what you do?
Would you like to guess how long it would be before authorities could find you if you posted one iota of dangerous drivel?
    try me, baby, try!!!

  6. I agree with a couple of the lads here (ex forces..)that New is a plant, and we all be best aware that he could be HRC, or at the very least leftist inspired or sponsored.
    Just for giggles New..
    A) English is your first language.
B)You have at least a high school education , when comparing the syntax and prosaic style of the comprehensible language you use..
    C) You have an above average comprehension of the English language that somehow does not translate into to the sentence structure you use.
You sometimes forget to spell the words you use the same way..we watch..
Keep playing though, we know what your game is, and we will soon know who you are.Don’t bullshit a bull shit decipher New, you will lose every time.

  7. There is a lot of talk of the Liberals slipping into third place in this election.
On seat count they could easily end up 4th.

  8. Agreed. Layton has been unable to capitalize on the Liberal’s weaknesses as deeply as Harper has; Harper would lend Layton a strong hand against a mutual foe to start treating Jack as Opposition.

  9. I think Canadians are dying to vote Liberal.”
As usual, Dion screwed up the English. He meant to say, “Canadians would rather die than vote Liberal.”

  10. Dion, the whiny wiener who can’t handle the Big League.
Would someone inform him he’s in the game of politics, the other parties will critique his policies.
Yes, Harper needs to move on to the NDP. God help us if ever that insanity plank ever gets close to influencing policy in this Country.
Only a good Majority for Harper will save this country from ruin within.

  11. Should the tipping point be crossed and the tories win a strong majority, greater than 175 seats, some scenarios show 200+ seats (dont laugh the Liberal collapse is THAT bad), then one hopes Haprer isnt afraid to use his majority.
Mulroney won 200+ seats, but allowed himself, his party and his government to be shoved off message and strategy. Mulroney was also trying to build a long term Con coalition and this hampered his efforts.
This does not mean burining the house down, this does not mean bullying the opposition with closure, but it does mean moving forward with relentless pressure on key items to ensure things have been done two years to 2.5 years into mandate. You need the time so effects can be seen.
A little premature but please please dont let a new Rat Pack blow you off course, cut my INCOME taxes (without raising other taxes), reorder government spending to get rid of the teat suckers, roundhouse Danny Williams at least twice (sell Nfld to Cuba) ensure the Cdn military is beefed up further for the fights you know are coming, ditch the HRC’s, clean out the CBC if not ditch it, get rid of payroll taxes (why tax jobs), change the tax structure to radically reward productivity and capital investment, change the immigration system to the Australian model (putting numerous Liberal immigration lawyers out of work)…and if you really are working on an EU Free trade agreement get it done, great idea.
Oh and if the AMericans really do want changes then please ensure there is labour mobility in Nafta, real labour mobility…concession is between citizens not just residents.
Oh, this wont get you any votes but it is needed, try to get the Civik Service de wormed and not restuffed with Conservative hacks but with true professinals, the judiciary as well. I have to say I would love to see the 2 SC appointments during your next term that might shift to a less activist line.
Aand dont go into deficit, no matter what the temptation.
Don’t blow the opportuntity, if you are going to be kicked out the next time, let it be because you did what makes sense rather than than try to cement the cons into something they arent. Trust me, Canadians will vote respect over love every time.

  12. Whereas collapsing Liberal support does hold some promise for a Conservative majority, I will remain cautious until about a week before Election Day. The debates still need to happen; these will be followed by analysis and digestion of the results. Then we will need a few more days before new polls come out that measure the post-debate mood of the nation’s voters. This caution does have the benefit of making surprises somewhat pleasant.
A second point that needs to be considered is the following. Let us suppose that we are seeing a meltdown in Liberal support and that it translates into a seat count in Parliament that is less than, say, 50. Is the meltdown Chretien/Dion-led or is it Liberal Party-led? I will ask those two questions in another manner.
The first question follows. Are we witnessing the (late) turfing of the Chretien government that should have happened in either 2004 or 2006 (but is happening now) and is similar to the 1984 Liberal thrashing that the voters aimed at Trudeau but hit John Turner? If 2008 is 1984, then is Chretien/Martin actually Trudeau and is Dion actually Turner?
The second question follows. Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of the Liberal Party in a similar exercise that did in the Progressive Conservatives? If 2008 is 1993, then is Dion/LPC Leader(2009)/LPC Leader(2013??) actually Kim Campbell/Charest/Clark ?
It is too early to determine which of the two paths we are witnessing. However, as I mentioned at the beginning, we must first determine if the LPC meltdown will be reflected on Election Day. This question is actually the most interesting question (for me) in the current election.

  13. Your all wrong, News problem is that he is a graduate of Dions class at Dions university, that is scary! Used to be we had mostly slimy lawyers running for politics now it is moronic professors.

  14. Excellent post Stephen at September 28, 2008 9:04 AM. I will disagree on SC comment. I think Canada doesn’t need anymore Senators screwing up the system. We pay them an outstanding income and they are not worth it. I think PMSH if getting the majority should introduce and get law threw parliament that there is no more appointed senator’s and no more income raises for these people.
When this law hits the senate committee then we might actually see what and who we are paying for. Just a thought.
New; Kate doesn’t want us to feed trolls but I have read in recent posts that you are disgusted with “Loblaws”. Why don’t you and your Muslim friends stage protests at all “Loblaws” and affiliate companies that are owned by “Loblaws” or who ever owns for not selling you the Muslim food you want. Just a suggestion.

  15. I think all the coverage, post results Oct 14, will be shock and awe. Layton will have to explain why he is not PM, and May will be telling us that cdns don’t care about climate catastrophe, Craig will say good bye to his senate seat, Dion will be in a fetal position saying, it’s not fair, cdns don’t love me, and will resign as leader in a fit of passion. Who he appoints as interm leader will start the fight between Iggy and Rae, and the whole game will start all over. He could appoint someone like a liberal from AB (lol) as interm leader. Duceppe will cry that he warned he was the only one to stop a majority, and failed. Mercer will apologize for not having a petition to change Dion’s name to Celine.
The good news is we will no longer be paying for Belinda and Paul Martin to not show up for work.
Garth will be blogging on how he screwed up by going against his leader and crossing the floor and there will be no green MPs in the HofC.
Lots of crow to be eaten by the media and defeated leaders and candidates.
If we do get a big majority, and cbcers see the writing on the wall there might be many of them heading to Al-J tv.

  16. Let’s not forget Mary Walsh’s characterization of Mr Harper: arse licking satan. yeah satan. sheesh?
And so we have cityoen Dijon bemoanig his lot:
    ” izz not fair!”
    Hahahaha, what a maroon….

  17. Awwwhh!! Tough love for you Stephanie!! Maybe you can join the former PM, PM on his LOVE boat and disappear forever!!!!!

  18. Stephen at 9:04AM. Good Post. I agree with everything stated. After election Cdns should ensure Harper steers the ship of state in right direction.

  19. Merle Underwood @ 9:57AM. I believe the SC reference was in regards to the Supreme Court not the Senate. However I agree the Senate should be abolished as well.

  20. Good comments overall. I would disagree, however, that strategic voting in Quebec, will benefit NDP. That could only happen in Montreal, with rest of Quebec going to Harper.
Anyway, the power of strategic voting is way overblown; it did not stop Tory majority in 2006 IMO, a full court press by Grtis weekend before election got back some of their vote, which stopped Harper majority.
Harper can safely ignore Layton, especially with his lamebrained increase of Child Benefit to maximum of $400 per month. NDP will scupper itself, just wait for their platform.
Layton is shoring up the left part of his vote, instead of attracting left part of the Liberal vote. That is a major strategic error on his part, but, like Dion, he seems unwilling to take good advice.

  21. “Never has a government spent so much to destroy a person and his policies as Harper has towards me,”
It may seem like nitpicking to some, but it is not the government that is spending the money he refers to, it is a political party. An important distinction lost on him.

  22. Date and time 28 Sep 2008, 20:40 NDT
Looking at the home page of the Globe and Mail, at the picture of Jack Layton against the Maple Leaf, it is evident that the Blubb is now campaigning for the NDP not the Liberals.

  23. Kursk
who “new” is I don’t know, but I’m pretty damn sure he/she is trolling for some one specific!!!!

  24. Is he talking about the same scary Stephen Harper, who has that hidden agenda, and wants to put soldiers – with guns – on our city streets? The same Stephen Harper who is ruining Canada, and wants to convert Canada into the next U.S. state for his good buddy George W. Bush? Is this the same Stephen Harper that Dion declared was the “worst Prime Minister ever?” The same Stephen Harper who wants to force all women back into the kitchen and keep them pregnant?
    Oh, I thought so.

  25. “kennedy is fighting for a seat in High Park, Toronto, against the incumbent, Peggy Nash, NDP. It’s an extremely tight race. There are a zillion lawn signs – and it’s hard to know who is ahead.”

FoodBank Kennedy against Piggy Gnash eh?
As Henry Kissinger famously said of the Iran-Iraq war: “It’s too bad they can’t both lose.”
