The survey of 16,063 people in 17 nations found majorities in only nine countries believe al Qaeda was behind the attacks on New York and Washington that killed about 3,000 people in 2001.
Related: World wants Obama as president: poll
Better news – the Pentagon Memorial, not shaped like a crescent.

I hope everyone has taken note as to who put this poll out.
The BBC
I’m sure the CBC helped them with it.
The closest thing that I can think of to president of the world is Secretary General of the UN, and I think that that would be just a dandy job for Barack Obama. It would give him the spotlight that he desires and keep him from trying to do anything important, like, say, changing the oil in my car.
Note as well that the poll was conducted during July and August — before Sarah Palin’s nomination as VP candidate.
What would it look like now? Amongst Muslim-predominated nations, probably worse for the GOP; amongst European nations, quite possibly better (albeit only marginally so; most probably still think it’s racist not to elect a “black” man as President, but it’s not sexist to not elect the slate that has a woman as the VP candidate). Not that it matters, of course — Americans need to resist outside suasion in their choice of POTUS and VPOTUS just as much as any other sovereign nation needs to resist such suasion when it comes to their own domestic elections.
Garth
I’m contributing a long quote from Victor Davis Hanson (I find point 2 especially relevant: Europeans accuse Americans of racism when there is not a single “person of colour” leading any European nation).
“Why Do Europeans Love Obama?
Let us count the ways:
1) Obama’s tax code, support of big government programs and redistribution of income, and subservience to UN directives delight the European masses—especially at a time when their own governments are trying to cut taxes, government, seek closer relations with the US, and ask a petulant, pampered public to grow up.
2) He offers Euros a sort of cheap assuagement of guilt—in classic liberal style. When Obama says falsely that he does not look like other Americans who have addressed Germans (cf. Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice who have represented US foreign policy abroad the last 7 years), Europeans feel especially progressive—and therefore need not worry that no one of African ancestry would ever become a European Prime- or Foreign-Minister.
3) Europe is weak militarily and won’t invest in its own defense. But with Obama, they believe the US will subject its enormous military strength to international organizations—usually run by utopian Europeans. So they will play a thinking-man’s Athens to our muscular Rome. They especially lap up Obama’s historical revisionism in which he lectures about the world’s effort to feed Berlin or tear down the communist wall, never the solitary, lonely efforts of a Harry Truman or Ronald Reagan to confront the evils of communism when almost everyone else preferred not to.
4) Style, style, style. Remember socialist Europe is where we get our designer eyeglass frames, Gucci bags, and French fashions. Instead of a strutting, Bible-quoting Texan, replete with southern accent and ‘smoke-em’ out lingo, they get an athletic, young, JFK-ish metrosexual, whose rhetoric is as empty as it is soothing. The English-only Obama lectures America on its need to emulate polyglot Europe; while a Spanish-speaking George Bush is hopelessly cast as a Texas yokel.
5) Obama reassures Europeans that they, not American right-wingers, “won” the classical debates of the 1990s over economics, foreign policy, and government. He is a world citizen, who buys into human-created massive global warming, wind and solar over nuclear and clean coal, high taxes, and cradle-to-grave entitlements, and resentments of the rich. There is a certain European “We told you so” that comes with his election. In short, we elect a world citizen with a European view, and put behind us the embarrassments of a Texan or cowboy actor.
The final irony?
The hated George Bush is still around; Chirac, Schroeder, Villapin et al. are history. Iraq is secure. Iran is becoming isolated. North Korea supposedly is denuked. And America is reassuring a jittery Europe that we will stick by them in a world of bullying Russians and Chinese.
A Modest Prediction
In 5 years, Europeans will prefer George Bush to a “We are right behind you” Obama.”

Note when you see the poll it shows CPC38 Libs 27 Ndp 24…..?????But when you go to the Angus reid site It shows CPC 38 Libs 24 Ndp 21….Are we being duped ????
In the online survey of a representative national sample of 1,007 adults, 38 per cent of decided voters would support the Tories in the Oct. 14 federal election, up two points since late August and above the party’s share of the vote in the 2006 electoral process (36.3%).
The Liberal Party is a distant second with 24 per cent (-4), well below its 2006 total (30.2%).
The NDP has markedly improved over the past two weeks, reaching 21 per cent (+3) for the first time this year and clearly surpassing its 2006 showing (17.5%).
The Bloc Québécois remains stable at nine per cent, while the Green Party drops back to seven per cent (-1).
The above poll came out yesterday.
I’d have to answer “I don’t know” also.
I don’t believe the strident ravings of the kooks at Loose Change…
Neither do I believe the overly pat, soundbite answer of “19 Arab hijackers crashed planes into buildings because they hate America for her freedoms”.
Somewhere in between those two extremes lies the truth, but we may never know where exactly.
The vast majority of the people of this world are only marginally smarter than your common field potato.
How many people believe:
They’ve been abducted by aliens
That Elvis lives (and was abducted by aliens)
Nessie is real
etc.
Tin hat stupid is the norm.
Never Forget.

Amazingly MSNBC has been showing all morning in mirrored real time the events of 9/11. It’s as raw now as it was then. The left would like to push this horrific crime against humanity down the memory hole. I can only surmise that the dolts at MSNBC didn’t calculate that with their hours of coverage votes will be lost for Obama. You just can’t look at that day again and see Obama as Commander-in-Chief.
2,751 names will be read at the WTC today. I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around that number. One of the flight attendants on those WTC planes was from my daughter’s sorority at Penn State. Six degress of separation. I didn’t know her, but, I do know all of the good things, reflecting on my daughter’s life to date, that she was denied. Thinking about her personalizes the horror.
We haven’t killed enough scummy terrorists.
A guy at a BBQ I was at started loudly blaring off the “The was no plane at the Pentagon” tinfoil hat theory to a group of us.
I asked him repeatedly where he theorized the jetliner used for Flight 77 and the passengers on that flight had gone.
He not only failed to come up with an answer but never understood the question. Even when it was re-explained to him by a couple of other people.
There are a lot of stupid people in the world and it’s not going away. We have to live with it.
2 weeks ago in the post screening area picking up my stuff at the Victoria airport.
They wanted to review my wifes carryon again, racial profiling this definitely isnt as we are rather WASPy and travelling with our two young children…..anyway….this idiot behind me says, well I guess you can blame George Bush for this.
My wife and I looked at him not understanding.
He said, all this security stuff.
I said, thats funny, I thought it was the fault of the idiots who flew the planes into the twin towers.
he said after a pause, oh yeah, them too.
Sigh….
you do know that most people(without giving an actual percentage) are just plain stupid. they must be. just look at what is happening and being said around you.
Never occurred to you that the reason the world supports Obama is because the world historically has supported Dem candidates? Or that the world is 92% non-white and has centuries old grudges against white people, anglos like McCain in particular, due to colonialism? Or that the thought of a military man like McCain becoming president of a country that has invaded/bombed/stirred up violence in too many countries to count since WWII might not go over very well in some parts?
I have a tiger repellant rock you may be interested in purchasing. Act now, and you’ll receive this bonus PDF in which PNAC plainly states they need a new Pearl Harbour, an even which – magically – appeared within the first year of the PNAC infiltrated Bush Administration!
“Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings evolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.”
Lusitania. Pearl Harbor. Gulf of Tonkin. 9/11. It only happens once every generation because people would stop falling for it otherwise.
In each case, powerful forces acting on the US government desperately wanted war and the US public did not. Magically, conditions suddenly appeared for the US to go to war. The word idiot is far too kind for those who can’t see the pattern here.
tiger. i think killing them all would not be too strong a sentiment.
Oh god Kate,I can’t believe you get twoofers here as well, with their blind hatred of Bush, they see only what they want to see.I think Obama would make a great Newfoundland Premier.
We really do need a huge disaster to sweep the world. Something that people who live in reality could easily deal with and survive, but those who cling to fantasies would perish from.
I have noted that most things break down 80/20
There are many examples of the 80/20 thing, but the main consideration is the vast majority, about 80% are dumb shits and they vote.
Nothing good comes easy because of the stupid factor.
And it should be noted that there are a lot wealthy and influential dumb shits too. They don’t help.
“The survey of 16,063 people in 17 nations found majorities in only nine countries believe al Qaeda was behind the attacks on New York and Washington that killed about 3,000 people in 2001.”
Those in the MSM responsible for the dissemination of news in the other nine countries are gonna get fired.
Their lyings templates haven’t convinced those “hick countries” of the “truth” yet.
Osama Bin Ladin must be in cahoots with the war-mongering, create-their-own-Pearl-Harbour Bush administration, as O B L and his henchmen so proudly took credit for 9/11.
Funny how no one, absolutely no one prior to 9/11 noticed all the thousands of miles of wiring on the two towers that would have been needed to bring on the demolition of the buildings, or noticed all the workers that would have been needed to place the wiring during the weeks ahead of time. Also funny how none of the hundreds of people that would have had to have been in on the take-down of the towers have ever, ever confessed.
Yup. Fire can’t melt steel. 4 Planes and their passengers all magically disappear off the planet in order to bring about Bush’s Pearl Harbour.
Troofers are truly brain-dead.
Most of the world calls soccer football also but that doesn’t make it right. It just shows how ignorant the rest of the world really is.
Don’t tell me Osama was lying when he congratulated the ones who carried out the attacks in one of those videos.
How can that be?
Osama been lyin’?
I would bet that the WORLD would probably prefer Osama bin Laden to B. Hussein Obama for US President.
So much for world opinion.
Tiger the reason these events “magically” appear as you seem to think is because the ball was already in motion years ahead of the event.
Tiger Defender Inc. : “In each case, powerful forces acting on the US government desperately wanted war and the US public did not. Magically, conditions suddenly appeared for the US to go to war. The word idiot is far too kind for those who can’t see the pattern here.”
This statement only serves to validate the following:
Warwick: “The vast majority of the people of this world are only marginally smarter than your common field potato.”
“Lusitania. Pearl Harbor. Gulf of Tonkin. 9/11. It only happens once every generation because people would stop falling for it otherwise.”
While we’re on the subject of inane conspiracy theories, let’s throw in the Alamo and the USS Maine.
Here’s one American who doesn’t give a tinker’s dam that all the so-called “progressives” in the world want Obama to win the election.
A majority of the UN General Assembly cheered Robert Mugabe and booed Colin Powell back in 2003, so what does that tell us about the majority’s intellect and morality in this “progressive” “world body”?
tiger – I think your opinions are pretty thin.
The world isn’t divided into 92% are non-white and they all hate whites because of colonialism. Sorry, but peoples of all colours have been moving into other territories since our species began, 100,000 years ago, in Africa. That includes blacks vs blacks, Asians vs Asians and others …whites vs whites..and so on.
Colonialism was a specific economic expansion of the West, whose population grew exponentially beyond the carrying capacity of their agricultural economy. Colonialism was a mid-phase reaction to this, following disease and famines. Oh, by the way, the first colonialists were Muslims – in the Mediterranean.
After colonialism…came industrialism. The world has to deal with the rise in population.
Could you tell me which countries the US has invaded? And compare it with other invading countries (Russia, France, Iran etc).
Also, could you provide some evidence for your theory about ‘powerful forces’ …It sounds rather mythic and alien.
biff jr – why stop there, add Roswell, JFK’s assassination, and Big Foot. They all have their specialized troofers too.
There will always be a group that unable to process facts and evidence and paranoid by personality that are left bereft of any conclusion other than “they are lying to me”. I’m excluding the obvious grossly psychotic.
Paranoia is interesting. We do have a center for it in our brains, it saved our ancestors from being eaten. It isn’t always bad as long as reason is the override. Psychiatrists conclude that in some people that center is overdeveloped and malfunctioning with varying degrees of behavior maladaption.
And, then, there are people who know the conspiracy is stupid but feel so what!, it comforts my political anger and does damage to the object of my wrath.
By the same token, we shouldn’t be so naive as to believe that there aren’t people out there who are willing to try and put one over on us if they think they can get away with it!
It’s widely believed that politicians are crooked, dishonest, bordering on sociopathic…so why should anyone’s default position be anything OTHER than expecting that they are going to be trying to pull some sick, twisted shit? Don’t be fooled by the illusory edifices that they hide behind: “The Nation”, “The Flag”, “Patriotism”, “Our Government would NEVER…!” etc.
Iran/Contra was real. So was Watergate. Adscam or Operation Sidewinder, anyone?
“It’s widely believed that politicians are crooked, dishonest, bordering on sociopathic…so why should anyone’s default position be anything OTHER than expecting that they are going to be trying to pull some sick, twisted shit?”
Because they’re still human beings, born and raised in our societies, and elected by our populace. And because there are too many GOOD people serving under them, and too many checks and balances in place, to allow them to get away with much. About the only thing they can get away with is fleecing the public and spending money on their friends.
When it comes to massive conspiracies … well, you’ve pretty much got to be off your meds to believe that a system of government which couldn’t hide Watergate and a blowjob in the Whitehouse could somehow pull off 9/11.
“When it comes to massive conspiracies … well, you’ve pretty much got to be off your meds to believe that a system of government which couldn’t hide Watergate and a blowjob in the Whitehouse could somehow pull off 9/11.”
Alex nails it.
mexicans are split between the arabs and the U.S. guv as the cause of 911–(with a porous border down there for people but not info, i guess)
The article suggests that there is “no consensus on who was behind Sept 11.” The UN should immediately commission a panel of experts from throughout the world who will be able to study this for years in order to come up with a “consensus.” Only then will the truth be revealed and the world able to move forward. /sarc

Clearly you underestimate the genius of GWB, if he can cause global warming on Jupiter and steal elections he sure as h**l can orchestrate a little thing like 9/11.
“Consensus”…?
Public opinion can change history…wow…who knew?
Indiana Homez: Yeah, that Bush is an eeeevil genius. Like Dr. Evil, but better. It’s a good thing we’ve got all these Brave Twoofers to defend us from his devious machinations!
“a survey of 16,065 people in 17 countries”
Am I reading this thing wrong? How on earth can roughly 1,000 people per country be considered a good survey? That would be approximate to taking the poll from 10% of the population of my own (very small) city. You would hardly get a representative estimate of an entire country, much less come up with a majority figure.
I have to be reading it wrong.
Harsh, Warwick. It is Friday. North Americans are not stupid. They are actually willfully ignorant. It is so easy to survive in our countries, and even survive with a degree of style, that critical reasoning has become an intrusive non-necessity.
I will admit, reading all those really scathing comments from Aussies in Sydney is disheartening. Suspect they’re similar to denizens in the Bay Area. It is still painful.
Ann, good comments. One almost wishes BO would win so the Euros could become more careful of which they wish. BO could orate away as Putin shuts down their pipelines. Boo frickin’ hoo. Negotiate this, comrades.
