1. Very nice post. As someone who’s currently in the same kind of relationship Jim was (or, for that matter — still is) in, I can relate to every sentiment.

2. Well, many would read the story, possibly get a tad misty eyed… maybe even mutter, “nice guy.”
   But Jim represents something much more profound, and far deeper than contemporary veneers and loud paint.
   Jim is a glimpse of the man whose reach lies beyond his grasp, who knows the melodies and fragrances of a red, red rose, and who is willing to die so that others might live.
   Jim knows about freedom.

3. Great post.
   Been to many a VFW in Montana and the people are great.
   I know where he’s coming from to some degree. 32 years and counting in the marriage dept.

4. A tip of the glass to those of a great and, sadly, bygone era. We need more ‘Jims’ in this day and age…

5. Jim would be a friend I could respect. I know a few Jim’s out there — but they’re not all too easy to find these days…

6. After the passing of his wife some years ago, my wife’s grandfather was asked if he would get married again.
   No disrespect intended of Jim, but Gramps’ response may be more honest than anything assumed above – “I tried that once. Why would I do it again?”

7. To Rick in B.C. I surely hope you missed the tongue in his cheek when he said that. I am living a similar thing to Jim and after 38 year of some tough times and a whole lot of pure bliss I can`t imagine staying with someone that long if they felt that way.

8. I would like to think that I would respond the same as Jim.
   That being said on the show Curb You Enthusiasm Larry and his wife were renewing their vows. Larry’s wife wrote her own vows where she mentions their spirits being together for eternity. Larry being the man of principle he is put on the brake lights and said that he only agreed to “until death do us part”, unfortunately for Larry his wife didn’t see the distinction. I’ll just say I wouldn’t recommend mentioning this little fact if these same circumstances happen.
