Blog Notes

I’m back at the desk here, but still have work to do unloading and catching up after a two day drive home from Columbus, OH. Many thanks as usual to my busy guest bloggers who take time out of their own lives to fill in during my absence! I should be back to regular programming tomorrow, (depending on how long it takes to get the kinks out of the display issues affecting some users).

Thanks for your patience!

  1. Related to some of the blog issues of late: pretending, for a moment, that it’s a trivial task to migrate decades worth of posts and comments (which is where much of the gold is), are there any self-hostable open source blog apps left that aren’t a security dumpster fire? Blogging has largely moved to YouTube, fora to Discord, and the guy in charge of WordPress has lost his mind.

What’s out there? Everything but Umbraco and WriteFreely are written in dynamically-typed scripting languages.

    1. Well, for whatever reason it seems the problem corrected itself. Which may be a problem as well. Scans are coming up clean, though.

      1. yep. oddly enough sometimes ‘someone’ ‘somewhere’ need only do a restart to implement an update and voila, the mystery deepens by solving itself.

in my time when a wholesale upgrade involved incompatable formats, l would invariably recommend a one-time ‘conversion’ to bring old data into the new ‘house’ to maintain 100% archive.
never got a single client to agree alas.
