Just a conduit, eh?

Gloria Galloway does her best to impersonate a piece of PVC pipe. I’m not buying it:

So to Gloria Galloway, I say this: stop hiding behind the myth of journalistic objectivity, and start taking responsibility for the choices you make as a journalist – for what you choose to report, for what you choose not to, and for how you go about it. The soldiers will respect you a lot more when you take accountability for your choices.

This seems to be Spank A Journalist Week at The Torch.

  1. “The defence I have offered, and I am not sure that it has been entirely accepted, is that we report in this way because theses stories are news.”
Wow, how Freudian of her. Admitting liberal theses are news…

  2. Journalists live for details. They are our stock in trade. And, as long as we know them to be fact, we throw them into our work without giving a lot of thought about who might be reading on the other end –
That is unless you have an agenda to promote — than objectivity goes out the window.

  3. Even if Galloway was one of the best journalists in Canada (wow, that was painful even to type), you’ll note that Damian didn’t truncate or ‘chop up her blog post’ in any way, thus the ‘integrity’ of her argument remained intact.

  4. It’s a war zone, not a Lion’s playground. People, including kids, old women and innocent bystanders die. That’s the game called war.
We have to take the “Yankee” stance and realize that’s it’s for “the good of the whole,” or for “the big picture.” I’m a news buff–I hadn’t even heard about the accident. In any event, I beleive that the average Canuck is smart, and he or she will see what happened here.

  5. Jaysus….its only news because we try not do these things….by that logic the Armed Forces should operate in bloodthirsty fashion so that nobody reports on their SOP…only their acts of kindness and mercy would be news.

  6. Expat Texan, the Comments to the article aren’t closed. Go to the article via the Torch homepage, at http://toyoufromfailinghands.blogspot.com/ Then click on the Comment link below the article. Voila, you’re at the page to make and enter a comment.
Also, as Gen. Lee Wright noted above, the Torch article author didn’t truncate or misrepresent Galloway’s post.
I’ve been a regular surfer at The Torch for some time and I know the blog owners don’t play that way. They know what they write about and always present it accurately, fairly and objectively. Moreover, they welcome and encourage intelligent commentary from the public, whether or not it agrees with their writings. The quality of the blog owners’ writing, their standards of fairness and objectivity put a large percentage of North American print journalists to shame.

  7. If biased reporting makes one among the best journalists in Canada we really are in big trouble and on our way to becoming a banana republic.
Why the hell is she over there anyway if not on an agenda boosting trek for the Slop and Pail?
Our men and women in the war zone deserve better.

  8. Ms. Galloway is a Liberal twit with a public forum. More advertising the Liberals do not have to pay with out of their own pockets.

  9. Dave in PA – 100% accurate assessment of The Torch.
The boys play fair and work very hard to provide balance to our very anti-military media.
They are always on my daily read list.

  10. From the Torch:
“Journalistic objectivity is a fairy tale told to children and developmentally challenged adults.”
And this “One of the best journalists in Canada” is covered in faery dust.
Detail indeed ….what of the hundreds of stories that have been parsed and found to be willfully absent of many known and pertinent facts?
Hundreds if not thousands pulled apart on this blog and many others and demonstrated to be highly selective in what “details” were included or which facts were to be emphasized and which to be relegated to brief mention in summary!
The MSM and it’s minions are being examined daily by people with the ability to get beyond what these so called impartial journalists are offering and the MSMers are found wanting in many critical examples.

  11. I have no respect for Gloria Galloway, I am sure she is over there ,so her husband can travel along to represent the Liberal Party on the Globe and Mail dime.
All Canadians should be very afraid of the Globe and Mail!!!!!

  12. In case anyone doesn’t know . . Galloway’s husband is Mark Dunn, Steffi Dion’s Director of Communications

  13. The Torch’s writer chopped up her blog post to distort her argument.
Care to back that accusation up with anything, Mark?

  14. Journalistic objectivity from Gloria Galloway? LOL
Isn’t she the one who cheerfully admitted that the Press Gallery was writing negative stories about the Conservatives as payback for Harper’s supposed mistreatment of the journalists?

  15. Galloway who?
Never read her stuff, don’t get the Globe (too Toronto centric and thats the “national” version – piece of crap.)

  16. How can we expect her to be objective when she’s sleeping with Stephane Dion’s director of communications?
What kind of communications will we be getting from this kind of setup? Objectivity my butt.
Do they have the condescending audacity to think we all fell off a turnip wagon?

  17. “Isn’t she the one who cheerfully admitted that the Press Gallery was writing negative stories about the Conservatives as payback for Harper’s supposed mistreatment of the journalists?”
    That was Susan Delacourt

  18. lucky Borat Dion isnt the government , a sleeping partner communications director linked with a journalist would be alot scarier than sleeping around with an ex biker chick. at least the bikers are predictable.

  19. “The Torch’s writer chopped up her blog post to distort her argument.
Care to back that accusation up with anything, Mark?”
He can’t do that Mark because Bourrie has had so many new assholes ripped in his derriere over the years that he is “backsideless”.
He coulda been a blogsphere contender Back in the Day, but then he went all wobbly and became a punching bag for just about everyone, but especially Warren Kinsella. You know you have hit rock bottom with a full twisting two and half back flip dead cat bounce when Kinsella sues you.

  20. I know it’s off topic, but you gotta read Paul Wells ‘live-blogging’ the Dion press conf.today.We have a new Lib.campaign slogan, that Paul crafted from the ‘richer, greener, fairer’ line. It’s now just Richard Peregrino.
    I thot it was funny!

  21. The MSM’s Gloria “Galloway’s husband is Mark Dunn, Steffi Dion’s Director of Communications”
How can you tell the players without a program?
Does anybody have a list of which liberal is schtuping which “fair and balanced” hack?
PS. Kindly leave out any information you may have on Craig Oliver.

  22. Dave in PA, i believe it is the comments on the original blog piece that are closed, with no comments to be seen..
I guess Gloria does not want the other side of the story told…

  23. She should be home ironing her husband’s shirts and cooking him a good dinner. What’s up with these uppity women anyway?

  24. Malcom, you’re too clever by half..the issue with Gloria Galoway is that she is a partisan hack and schill for the Liberal party of Canada.
Don’t try to change the channel to ‘the right doesn’t like the voices of strong women’..after all, we do like the Blatch!..

  25. john g, what’s the difference, Delacourt sleeps with a Liberal hire of some sort as well. Media guys and gals, all intertwined with the Liberals, one way or another they’re in it together. Hope they have a long spell to cry in their beer.

  26. Sorry for the confusion. I admire the work of the Torch authors a lot. I was talking about the comments at the original Globe and Mail article being closed. One suspects the closure happened after Galloway’s thesis met with less than stellar approval.

  27. “Isn’t she [Galloway] the one who cheerfully admitted that the Press Gallery was writing negative stories about the Conservatives as payback for Harper’s supposed mistreatment of the journalists?”
    “That was Susan Delacourt”…
…whose brother, John, apparently, was Sukh Dhaliwal’s executive assistant, after being Joe Volpe’s press secretary.
‘Way too many PPG members whose family members work for/with, or did work for/with, the Librano$ for any appearance of non-partisanship to be credible.
    Gloria Galloway is no exception.

  28. Cowan’s
“There are multiple causes for the remarkable dumbing-down of the media in Canada over the past 40 years.”
struck a nerve because the truth hurts.
    Tabloidism, pure and simple.

  29. richfisher; Crag Oliver is the result of Peeair Turdeaus affair with a big owl during a walk in the snow after boinking Deborah Coyne for coin. Oh the life of a lieberal.
