I disagree, we don’t just have two mounds of dirt where bridges should be, we now have a traffic problem. (and yes I am aware how ridiculous it sounds to have a traffic problem in the backwater that is Brandon)
when I voted,
the number changed…
how cool! how… unlike the old government of saskatchewan.
The mounds of dirt on either side of the river are most impressive, and indicate high quality road building skills.
Look on the bright side, and utilize the mounds as tourist viewpoints, they’re higher than the surrounding countryside, and the view IS pretty spectacular!
Maybe the Premier is waiting for the day he retires, so they can name the bridge after him. Manitobans, help him on his way, and enjoy the new Gary Doer Bridge, due to open in 2019.
Someone might like to update the day count. The end of 2009 is probably around 499 days away.
Gary “I’ll not” Doer.
manitoba has Bakken and Spearfish, but no oil boom. go figure.
Why build? … Pennsylvania has some for sale.

Amateurs!!! It takes a professional screw up to build an overpass and exit that goes nowhere for 5 years like we had here in NS.
On the positive side, they already have the nicely landscaped ramps. Hire some stunt drivers to jump the river every few days. Create a tourist trap out of it!
What? A socialist government that DOESN’T build a bridge? What is the world coming to?!
Well you could have knocked me over with a feather – a politician that doesn’t keep his promises.
Oh what is the world coming to?
It also seems that the first law of govt road building applies in this case.
Roads and bridges are only built when there is no where to go on them.
This useful bridge has obviously been disqualified.
There’s more than just bridges that are not being built in Manitoba.
“A socialist government that DOESN’T build a bridge?”
They specialize in fast ferries.
That’s hilarious. A name like “Do-er” who just won’t get it done. You Manitobans need a guy like Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guiness0 in the Movie, “The Bridge on the River Kwai.” Remember that tune,
“Cheer up, the skies are going to clear up,
Cheer up, …….
A comment from Canada’s last bastion of socialism. I drive over this uncompleted bridge every day to go to my office. The bridge obviousley won’t be complete in 2008 and I would be very surprised that it is done in 2009. To put it in context, it took 8 years to twin the last 15 miles of the Transcanada highway from Mb to Sask. Also I expect the 18th bridge to come in at least 50% over budget.
Garry Doer is building a “Brandon Bridge” alright, it is just that it is nowhere near Manitoba. Probably doesn’t look like a bridge either.
Check the Grand Caymans…
