Did anyone see that MP from Manitoba on Duffy today (a woman)? She was completely irrational — “We’re going to lower gas prices by taking away the subsidies to the oil industry, and we are also going to meet our Kyoto commitments.” I find it distressing when any MP seems unable to intelligently come to grips with an issue. It was as though she did not know about APEC and mechanisms for setting global oil prices. A government should just step in and say “Sorry, that’s not our price.” and that would fix things. Unfortunately, I think her type of thinking is not uncommon (particularly among NDP’ers (of which she was one). Weirdly, it did not seem to occur to her that such things as carbon tax might in fact be passed on to consumers not only at the pump but in such things as food prices. Carbon tax is one of Dion’s policy plans — I cannot believe that reasonable people would continue to support this type of nonsense.
