  1. after the wall came down and tourism opened up into the former USSR the number one rule for visitors to follow was to never ever ever EVER fly on a russian airline.

  2. It’s funny that the pro-multicultural voices are nowhere to be heard when it comes to the physics of flying a plane.
(Shouldn’t the Congolese have the right to fly planes according to their views of the laws of physics?)
Now apply this principle to economies, governments, etc.

  3. African Airlines: Family members have personal experience 1980’s: aside from goats, chickens, and “other wildlife” dubious load procedures, and passengers lighting fires to keep warm (You think I’m kidding?) How about local africans refusing to get on a plane piloted by other (black) Africans and basically striking until a still obviously drunk Russian pilot was rousted out of bed and made to fly the plane….on an airport where the end of the runway literally had a dozen plane carcasses of previous flights that had either failed to stop at landing, or failed to complete, takeoff.
And no, these weren’t “backwoods” fields either.

  4. Regarding the Brits who are leaving, the ones I’ve met here in Manitoba are all soft socialists. Their opinion seems to be that British policies were not wrong, but not implemented properly.

  5. This might be old news but I noticed in yesterday’s TO Sun:
The story of Kim Robinson , the trapper/hunter/woodsman that found the father of the 3 murdered kids in Merritt, BC has been ‘politically corrected’ in the print version. He is no longer a trapper…he is now a ‘tracker’.Those sensitive Toronto minds that experience so many assaults and murders couldn’t handle the thought of a man ‘trapping and hunting’ I guess.
Calgary Sun still calls him a hunter(on line)

  6. The “Humane Society of the US with 113 million USD in assets: How misleading! HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesn’t’t operate a single one anywhere.
Instead, HSUS spends millions on programs that seek to economically cripple meat and dairy producers; eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research labs; phase out pet breeding, zoos, and circus animal acts; and demonize hunters as crazed lunatics. HSUS spends $2 million each year on travel expenses alone, just keeping its multi-national agenda going.

  10. Kenneth P. Green, The New Dissidents
But there’s one hot-button issue on which virtually no dissent is allowed: climate change. In a style reminiscent of the old Soviet Union, people disagreeing with any element of the agenda pursued by Al Gore and his climate catastrophists have been derided as “deniers,” a term clearly intended to equate dissent with mental illness, if not post hoc complicity in atrocities (as in “Holocaust denier”). “Fifteen per cent of the people believe the moon landing was staged on some movie lot and a somewhat smaller number still believe the Earth is flat,” Gore says. “They all get together on a Saturday night and party with the global-warming deniers.”…
Fortunately, not all journalists have bowed to the politically correct climate crusade. Lawrence Solomon, a columnist for Canada’s National Post—and the victim of an earlier smear campaign—decided to ask who these “deniers” really are and what they really believe… In other words, Solomon found that the “deniers” are, in fact, not in denial at all. They are merely dissidents from the political orthodoxy of climate catastrophism.

This animal rights organization is well known in the pet and farm industry, due to their ongoing sponsorship and lobbying for anti-breeding legislation, etc. They have appropriated the “Humane Society” name to sow confusion, and it’s worked.

  17. An excellent, fairly lengthy appraisal of the Afghan situation:
James Phillips and Lisa Curtis, The War in Afghanistan: More Help Needed
[National caveats have] put more of a burden on U.S., Australian, British, Canadian, and Dutch forces, which have undertaken most of the combat operations in southern Afghanistan. Danish, Estonian, Polish, and Romanian forces have been actively engaged in the fighting in other areas. The de facto segregation of coalition forces into frontline and “stand aside” units has undermined NATO’s effectiveness, flexibility, and unity of purpose. This is no way to fight or win a war.
Canada, which has admirably taken the lead and made a vital contribution to bolstering the security of southern Afghanistan, has become increasingly frustrated with the lack of support from other NATO allies. The Canadian government has threatened to pull out its 2,500 troops when their parliamentary mandate expires in 2009 unless it receives reinforcements from other allies.
The French pledge to send an additional 800 troops to eastern Afghanistan will free some U.S. forces to move south to help the Canadians in Kandahar province. However, other NATO nations still need to fulfill their commitments and provide additional military forces and economic development funds to wage a more effective counterinsurgency campaign in the Taliban’s heartland…

That’s been the Libs tactic in the House with their tempest in a teapot series of ‘scandals.’
The real meat of the Adscam will start coming out now and the Libs need some moral equivalence (see, they’ve done more bad things than we have) to deflect from their own theft of taxpayers money.
Libs need to get back into power so they can grease their coffers with our money. Conservatives are being singled out by Elections Canada for spending freely-donated money from their supporters.
Loved the way Merlene Jennings’ question was shoved right back down her throat in Question Period yesterday.
Parliament is breaking for 10 days now, so the only scandal the MSM will be able to follow is Adscam. Be not surprised, though, about the moral equivalence game.

However, Mr. Corbeil was a power-broker in Quebec for the Liberals, and was seen to be a member of the Chrétien wing of the party.] G&M

  25. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. I went to my son’s high school ‘end of year’ talent show and was unable to stay through the whole show because of the inability of the audience to stop talking throughout the show.
I am not speaking of comments from time to time or enthusiastic shouts, but conversations shouted across aisles, running commentaries about the show and general inability to sit in a seat and watch the show.
The students had worked hard to come up with sketches, introductions by the M.C.’s and recitals of brief poems. There were of course songs and dances as well.
Despite my complaints to those around me and my request at intermission that a general announcement be made to respect the performers by someone in authority, nothing was done.
I have to say some of this can be blamed on the modern tendency to have people in the audience join in on certain songs and of course the rock concert habit of waving arms back and forth during songs. There is a blurring of lines that does not encourage people to listen during other parts of the show.
Nevertheless I felt I was trapped in a zoo. Some of the audience were community thugs who came to see members of their family or community and didn’t respect anyone else. I had to wonder if they had ever been to a real show in their lives.
I asked my son if this is how things are in his classroom and he said no, but I am seriously wondering about this school, despite the hard work and talent of those on stage.

Rocky the problem is there have been Too many years of Liberal Dominance which allowed the liberals to Stack the Playing Feild in every dept going( Remember,The arrogance of they are Entitled to their Entitlements). The fact they think a judgment was given when the OHRC sent out their political suicide note, condemning MacLean’s is a good indicator of how ignorant these folks are in the security of a society that has closed it self off from the main meta- culture, to keep themselves pure of Kaffir attitudes or knowledge.
    Human rights ruling was appropriate

    RE:Right to Free Speech — April 14
A recent Record editorial criticized the Ontario Human Rights Commission for exercising its mandate to advance human rights in Ontario by expressing “serious concerns about the content of a number of articles concerning Muslims that have been published by Maclean’s magazine and other media outlets.”
Your dismissal of the commission’s concerns ignores the scurrilous content of these articles — particularly that of Mark Steyn’s The Future Belongs to Islam, which alleges that “enough” Muslims share the goals of terrorists and that Muslims wish to impose Islamic law on entire Western societies through a “bloody” takeover.
The commission properly recognized that these articles, and others like them, raise “important human rights issues for the affected communities and those concerned with an appropriate balance of freedom of expression and equality.”
In this context, the commission ruled that: “Freedom of expression should be exercised through responsible reporting and not be used as a guise to target vulnerable groups and to further increase their marginalization or stigmatization in society.”
The commission’s statement is appropriate in light of the lack of avenues available to redress racism in media. In our case, a short letter to the editor could not address the content of the 4,800-word Maclean’s essay. Therefore, we proposed a mutually acceptable response of adequate length — an offer rebuffed by Maclean’s senior editors.
While Canada has criminal hate speech laws, when the source of hate speech is our own mass media, they provide little protection to vulnerable minorities. All hate speech prosecutions require the attorney general’s consent — an unlikely event if the potential defendant is a large media organization. Although provincial press councils provide an avenue for reader complaints, membership is voluntary and many media organizations like Maclean’s do not subscribe.
By taking a brave stance against the systemic Islamophobia of Maclean’s, the commission has provided hope to minorities who are on the receiving end of the media stick, far too often.

  35. From Steve Janke’s archives, from the days of the Gomery Inquiry, to refresh memories about Benoit Corbeil’s role, freshly arrested and charged, in The Liberal Party:
    http://stevejanke.com/archives/081598.php
“From back on April 29, a detail that I don’t think was reported in the English language press. With regards to the appointment of lawyers to the bench in Quebec, Benoit Corbeil had alleged in a press interview that such appointments were made as a reward to Liberal party workers. From the Globe and Mail:
Mr. Corbeil said the people who received the cash payments were part of a larger group of party supporters who worked at the Liberal Party’s headquarters in Montreal during the election campaign. He said most of that larger group were lawyers, engineers or accountants from major firms, which he said hoped to reap federal contracts after the election.
“They don’t want to get paid right away, they want to get paid later,” he said, noting that many of the lawyers have since been named to the bench.
But what wasn’t reported was the process by which these lawyers were selected, and the role Corbeil played in it:
Benoit Corbeil, former general manager of the Liberal Party of Canada in Quebec, affirms that a member of the selection committee of the judges telephoned to him with some questions to know if a lawyer had militated well for the party.
“He asked to me whether such or such lawyer had devoted much time to the party,” Mr. Corbeil during a discussion with la Presse indicated, this week. “When it was the case, I answered by the affirmative. A few weeks later, I noted that the lawyer in question had been appointed judge.”
Mr. Corbeil must testify the next week at the Gomery commission.
This is an automated translation of the French article with some corrections by me. I know Justice Gomery is focusing on a narrow interpretation of his mandate, but if Corbeil has names, including of one or more people on the selection committee, he needs to be interviewed under oath in a public venue.”
