  1. Oddly reminiscent of Al Gore’s two presidential campaigns, and possibly also predictive of his former boss’s wife’s current one.

  2. If I’m not mistaken, here’s a video of it getting unstuck.
Note they’ve dug out the front and had added engines.

There’s more, including a derailment, here:

  3. According to Power of a Train, from the Physics Factbook – tinyurl.com/33d4tp – “Most locomotives weigh between 100 and 200 tons, and provide about 6000 to 7000 horsepower (4500 to 5200 kilowatts).”
If that data is valid, they used about 40,000 horsepower, or about 30,000,000 watts, to pull that plow out, and that was after digging out the front end.
In other words, don’t try this at home kids 😉

  4. Maybe they should try rocking it out. That is pretty funny,Largs. They should always keep a bag of kitty litter with them. Works for Red Forman!

  5. And now we know why CP & CN own snowblowers that hitch on the front of locomotives.
Do that a couple of times (tieiong up 6 loco’s and messing up the line) and the price of having the right equipment for the job looks less steep

  6. I’m afraid I’ve been very bad…and I’ll apologize for ruining the planet in advance. At the advice of another poster on a previous thread, I obtained a rather large number of carbon credits (18 Quintillion, to be exact) from “FreeCarbonOffsets.com” this morning…and then it immediately started to snow!
I…I…I think I may have started the next Ice Age!
On the plus side, I think I have obtained enough Carbon Offsets for everyone on SDA for the rest of your (cold) lives. Your welcome! And sorry! Again!
Maybe if we all pray to the Sun God……..

  7. That’s what I keep tellin’ to ma wife: tis year global warming kicked in earlier than a man would expect. We’re gittin 10″ today.

  8. Why is that only the railroad tracks obscured with all this snow? From where the guy taking the video is standing you can see almost bare ground, and the trucks are having no problem. Seems to me that a snow fence on the upwind side of the tracks would have averted this problem.

  9. richard ball, they could not even get Canadian global warming weather predictions right for 2007. Same for England. Right now we’re experiencing the second major storm of the winter and winter does not even start for 6 more days.If we keep having this much wet weather around here there will be NO worries about the Great Lakes’ water levels going anywhere but UP.
    Keep dreaming.

  10. It’s going to the best possible sight to behold if all the Bali Hooters arrive back to Toronto or Ottawa anytime in the next 24 hours.
They’ll be greeted by what is known as winter here in Canada, which we get to varying degrees every six months and have as long as we all can remember.
It’s not a new phenomenon, this storm is possibly the worst in 60 years, so we had one sixty years ago when Global Flipping Warming would have been laughed off the stage!
If only we could manage to amass crowds at the
Airports and pelt the Assholes with snowballs, knock some sense into their pea brains.

  11. Right now, Toronto is receiving – what the Star and weather experts are predicting to be – the biggest snowfall in 50 years.
I have a feeling the little kids in Bali are going to be very confused on their return.

  12. eeyore…Not to worry. My wife and I just got 25 quntillion and the sun is just coming up to a beautiful, balmy -5 day here in Edmonchuck. No snow for at least at week. See? Carbon Offsets DO offset! Heh

  13. Please remember it has now been declared “Climate Change”. If it gets colder it’s The Wests fault and if it gets warmer it The West’s fault. No matter what, pay your money to the rest of the world and make Uncle Moe smile.

  14. Form a Sask farmer;to rock out of snow:reverse, brake, put in drive with foot on brake, release brake till stopped, put foot on brake at end of rock, put in reverse, release brake, apply brake at end of rock etc. This works with auto transmissions.

Dreaming? I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, man, but thanks to man-made global warming, that’s all it is; Canada faces a barren, snowless landscape, all the ski lifts will be closed and the winter sports equipment/clothing people will all be out of business.
Global warming is also apparently affecting people’s abilities to detect satirical posts.

Beg to differ, Richard. The ski hills are open in Alberta. Guess they’re not in PEI? : )

  17. Not a matter of not enough power…there’s plenty of weight and power to do the job…the problem is transferring the power and weight to usable power through traction…200 tons with 7K ponies sitting on about 2 sqauare feet of polished steel with a layer of compressed ice as a buffer isn’t going to see that entire power rating utilized…possibly 10%.
    Traction boys ..traction…the winter diver’s best friend…;-)

  18. Here in the most Southern part of Canada, everything is pretty much snowed in today. Granted, we don’t know what real winter weather is, unlike the rest of Canadians, but we’re the first day in and the snow is supposed to keep falling until tomorrow.
Time to shovel. Good day all.

  19. That’s an impressive video – I’m shoveling about two feet of global warming out of my driveway this afternoon, too.
The Bali delegation is getting a nice global warming welcome in the Capital region – if their flights haven’t been canceled, that is.

  20. They should also add a blade from a D11 Caterpillar dozer to the front to boot….maybe a few. Men live for this kind of stuff….they probably got it stuck on purpose.

  21. Funny when I worked for CPRail … we had sandboxes and torches along with the plow front…. must be cutbacks at SP….??
BTW looks like those ROW Maintenance guys got their plow off the tracks …. worth 50 or so Browne Points for each guy on the job.

  22. Global warming, my ass!
Right this very fecking moment, I’m stuck in a fierce blizzard… going to take me a loooong time to shovel the driveway in the morning. Looks like the bloody North Pole here in southern NB right now.
Nothing but cold, cold, cold and snow, snow, snow so far for the past few weeks!
Global warming? So, where is it? I’d loooove to have some of it right here!
I swear, before too long, the scam will be exposed and the Chicken Littles will finally shut the F… up and go home and leave us the bloody hell alone…
At least the climate has changed… no more warm falls and winters. No more bare ground. Back to the way it used to be! Cold!
The AGW nutcases are going to drive me nuts if they don’t soon STFU!

  23. Four and a half hours for the driveway and back patio. I dug out all of the spotlights and have the Christmas lights on now in defiance of winter.
Might as well use them now before the liberals try to ban them to save the planet from toasting.

  24. Well, I don’t know guys, its plenty warm down here….! Maybe the ‘global warming’ thing only works where its warm?
    (Suffering in the Cayman Islands)

  25. And even though its snowing in some areas their still blabbering this GLOBAL WARMING poppycock bull poo
