Andrew Nikiforuk’s review of “THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE WAR ON CANCER” for the Globe and Mail gets off to a rollicking start,
…the cancer establishment has retreated from the truth faster than Canada’s commitment to a greener country … propaganda hit men … persistently foul pattern of deceit … I often wanted to throw it against a wall and scream … lingering, Disney-like fantasies … She shines, in short, with a burning indignation…
If not an altogether coherent one.
Her angry history of the way free and open discourse on cancers in the workplace has become as elusive as meaningful political debates reveals the rot with the bluntness of a chemo treatment.
There are many damning studies, and many shameful villains…
Damning studies on the health of asbestos workers couldn’t find a home in the 1930s, and to this day, Canada shamefully remains an exporter of the lung destroyer.
A mistake we were determined not to make with our water, in the knowledge that innocent people are drowning the world over.
Many of Davis’s findings simply stunned me.
Andrew attempts a valiant recovery, but the forces of stun are too powerful.
Now ponder this stunner: “Modern America’s annual exposure to radiation from diagnostic machines is equal to that released by a nuclear accident that spewed the equivalent of hundreds of Hiroshimas across much of Russia and Eastern Europe.”
And inversely proportional to the critical thinking skills on display.
And oh! Oh! Here come visits from old friends!
… Donald Rumsfeld
And…
… Nazis
The real tragedy is that none of us are likely to live long enough to read it, what with the…
… hidden hydrocarbon holocaust
We’re told how the author “celebrates tough, rural, blue-collar mothers” and advises that “Ritalin rearranges chromosomes”. Rearranged how? I suppose you have to read the book. Though, you really don’t need to – Mr. Nikiforuk has managed to provide the Hysterics’ Digest Abridged Version, courtesy of the Globe and Mail.
But I’ve saved the very best for last…
While China now leads a global economic boom, it’s also exploring new opportunities for cancer. Even its secretive, Ottawa-like government now concedes that the country’s industries use the nation’s rivers as industrial urinals.
Give the man his due. “Moonbat” just isn’t done any better than this.
(h/t to sharp-eyed reader Michel !)

Who the hell seriously reads anything in the Globe and Mail?
The pandemonium appears to have settled in old Niki’s brain.
File under Unbelievable.
Maybe Nikiforuk is filling the void left by Heather Mallick when she abandoned the Globe and moved over to the
Chinese
Broadcasting
Corporation
Andrea Martin isn’t dead from cancer, although her career isn’t doing do well.
Isn’t is strange that people throughout the western world are now living longer than ever.
How did this happen?
Okay, that does it, I am moving back into a cave.
probably majored in tinfoil origami hat folding with a minor in journalistic propaganda.
Or he is seriously trying to outdo the climate hysterics and get a liplock on some government funding
This report is very similar to employment statics. They never say something like … the employment rate in Canada is 95%. It’ far scarier and more accommodating to the scare merchants to say “the unemployment rate is nearing 6%”
How about instead of stating that 99.999% of Canadians have a home. Rather they would state that hundreds of families face homelessness.
How about “oceans will rise by 20 feet within 10 years and it’s our fault so buy carbon credits now (for whatever reason for whatever that will do other than enrich the seller). When there isn’t enough water to cover the planet to that degree if only because it’s too cold in many places to have that much melting.
How about there are millions of smokers, some will die … there are tens of millions of car drivers, some will die.
The fact is, that life leads to death. There are many ways to die, take your pick.
CT scanners save lives and work better than the crystal ball we used to use. But what do I know, I’m just a doctor.
This says it all for me:
Andrew Nikiforuk … is the author of Pandemonium, about how global trade and climate change threaten food security.
More journalists need to realize they aren’t scientists.
Oh, and cancer treatments are toxic because they are designed to kill cancer cells, which are almost exactly the same as normal human cells.
“Andrew Nikiforuk … is the author of Pandemonium, about how global trade and climate change threaten food security”
I don’t know why he’s worried about the food supply, most westerners eat a died of s**t nowadays. Perhaps he should mention how many people are dying of overeating grease and starch while sitting on the arse full time.
I love this guy’s take on medical imaging. Like there’s no difference between an x-ray and inhaling a pinch of Strontium 90.
Not to mention, the predicted avalanche of cancer in Eastern Europe has so far failed to materialize. Maybe its hanging fire until Russia joins the European Union?
I guess Canadians are safe from CT radiation as it takes 6 months to get one at the best of times.
As a person who works in the radiation part of cancer treatment, I find this bunch of chicken little/conspiracy crap to be… well, crap.
The Chinese Capitalist Communists run the Empire with an “Ottawa like ” government?
Does this mean Bush runs China too?
@ texas canuck,
Yeah one thing I have noticed is that a lot of lefties in the medical field (and outside of it) have this low opinion of CT scanners. They are quick to dump on Americans for using too many and deny any benefit to using CT scanning to screen for early lung carcinomas.
I think the real reason is because the lack of CT scanners in this country depicts the problems with public only health care. Something lefties don’t want to admit at any costs – even if it means people have to die.
Why didn’t he mention anything about UFOs?
Methinks Niki and Davis have both been using their cell phones and drinking CR13 KoolAid. Although how either usage found a brain cell to turn cancerous is the real mystery.
Sigh. What is WITH these people? Their ex cathedra verbal bludgeonings appear to have degenerated into a collage of topically related anecdotes tarted up by promiscuous statements of uncertain antecedents.
The problem is not just the journalist too many epidemiologists think they are scientists as well.
They’re not.
A great book called “The Epidemiologists” with the sub title “Have they got scares for you” by John Brignell explains this in great detail.
Funny how it never got a review in the globe.
“Modern America’s annual exposure to radiation from diagnostic machines is equal to that released by a nuclear accident that spewed the equivalent of hundreds of Hiroshimas across much of Russia and Eastern Europe”
Wow. Just wow. For the record, the radiation one gets from a diagnostic machine in one sitting (say, a chest x-ray) is less than or about equivalent to the amount of radiation one is exposed to on an airplane flight. Hardly comparable to the author’s dubious assertion.
Ritalin re-arranging chromosomes? hah….spreaking from my B.Sc I can safely say that’s a load of horse…manure….
But what do I know, I’m just a doctor.

Thanks, doc. I have a rash on my leg. Should I visit the emergency department of my local hospital? I mean it’s free, right?
More journalists need to realize they aren’t scientists.
They *could* be, though by installing bullsh*t-detecting software and having an independent, inquisitive mind.
What often passes for news these days, however, leads me to believe that neither of these qualities are desirable nor profitable for those involved in the whole system.
Recently I saw “could of” in actual print from a major publisher. Fer chrissakes, I checked this post three times for errors to ensure that I’d not be insulting those of you who’d think less of me because of my spelling/grammatical errors! Can’t the MSM even do that when they’re paid to write?

They probabily could of but they wont.
@ PiperPaul:
Nothing is free. Otherwise I don’t know what other point you are trying to make as we’re talking about junk ignorant reporting here.
langmann,
I’m the type to not visit the doctor unless I’m near drop-down dead and understand that there are people with more serious health concerns than mine.
Does “junk reporting” include supposed waiting times for patients? I moved to Calgary 1.5 years ago and had no trouble finding a doctor. The only people I hear about having trouble finding a doctor in this city are on TV, so who’s wrong here?
These scribblings are just another conspiracy ploy designed to prove that the world must move to the U.N. One Language Model, and the sooner, the better. When Nikiforuk translates from his obvious slavic multicultural roots, the translation doesn’t take.
Articles are written specifically to show the failure of multiculturalism in the New Order, being seen as gibberish (a form of tongue thought to be the precursor of the One Language Model). Since the UN has long moved past pesky regional self-determination, its begun to subtly re-engineer states world-wide through language re-implementation, known euphemistically as “re-languaging”. The goal is slowly force everyone to move to the One Language Model in order for any communication to occur at all.
The UNNWOO (United Nations New World Order Organization) mandarins put the moonbat curriculum in place decades ago, recognizing that pot-smoking hippies were particularly susceptible to auto-suggestion. Had it not been for the rise of the right, the plan would have almost certainly worked. This is clearly evidenced by the number of moonbats bubbling to the surface in recent times.
Presently, nations are grappling with the need to build sufficient institutions to house them all, and they are expected to become a major drain on domestic GNP worldwide, as they are not self-sufficient and require constant supervision and intervention. Economists are guarded in their predictions for correction of this particular problem, as the inherent flakiness of moonbats makes it difficult to construct durable programs that ensure success over time.
The matter is sufficiently vexing that agencies tasked with the responsibility to develop these remedial programs have had to subcontract the International Association of Cat Herders Inc. to assist in their development.
who is to blame for this?
Yet more indications that the implications of epidemiological studies are vastly overstated more often than not. As to conspiracies, people are just not competent enough to sustain them. Rather, mostly we see trial and error and good faith desire to not spend money fruitlessly or not lightly abandon what appears to work until convincing evidence is generated. Nikiforuk has embarrassed himself, showing total lack of capacity from critical analysis–in short, he is a journalist.
PiperPaul Said: Does “junk reporting” include supposed waiting times for patients? I moved to Calgary 1.5 years ago and had no trouble finding a doctor. The only people I hear about having trouble finding a doctor in this city are on TV, so who’s wrong here?
@ PiperPaul: What’s wrong here is that you obviously don’t know what its really like out there. Finding a family doctor is very difficult for people in my experience.
It seems like you’re trolling for a flame-war so unless you’re next question is relevant to the topic I’m off.
The Lefties like to take credit for Medicare, complete care for one and all, FREE.
Well, it isn’t free and Doctors are well aware of that fact. Our emergency rooms are crowed daily with many petty things that used to be cared for in Doctor’s Offices when it wasn’t FREE and Doctors had time to care for their slate of clients.
Keep in mind, clinics and medical labs are all over our cities, aren’t these part of the Lefties dreaded two tier health care?
We’ll survive in spite of our wacky governments and other experts, we’ll find a way.
It’s tiresome to keep hearing the Leftoids rant, no two tier health care, when it exists all around them. Some practitioners have already got their own insurance schemes going, their patients pay an annual fee to cover all the little things like filling out forms and prescription renewals, telephone advice etc.

We know our medical community always has our best interests at heart? X-ray machines in Canada are outdated and dangerous. Maybe that is the upside to our wait times?
Another wise guy declares that world is coming to an end. The earth is full of chemicals and dirt, to some the notion seems to escape.
Now if we could pack all the bad chemicals and put them into a gigantic space ship and ship them off to never, never land. Would not that be just wonderful?
That does not mean that the neighborhood should be necessarily polluted to death. Though you won’t be able to eat off the sidewalk regardless.
Nikiforuk is also the author of the book “Saboteurs” the hagiography of the murderous Wiebo Ludwig clan.
The ENVIROMENTAL DEFENSE FUND is making false and misleading advertising with their TV ads about GLOBAL WARMING why dont the FCC bring up charges of FALSE AND MISLEADING ADVERTISING against them?
It’s unfortunate that a professional assessment isn’t conducted on his mental health by way of his writing. He obviously needs shock therapy, rather than allowing him his attempt at doing likewise to a largely ignorant audience.
Oh well, they say drinking six cups of coffee a day cuts down on skin cancer risk by 30%.
langmann, was I starting a flamewar by asking a question and providing my experience? If so, I apologize to you and have my fire-proof underwear on. I respect MDs, not many of us can do what they can do.
I love this guy’s take on Chine…hey bud…if China is making new research inrode into cancer its only to discover how thay can build a better anti population weapon.
Do you really think the Chinese want to save lives?
They have the most advanced population control systems in the planet.
@ PiperPaul: No problem, I’m probably just tired and have my back up for no reason. Cheers.
I was going to say he is totally insane but the man can not be completely insane if he can recognize that …
While China now leads a global economic boom, it’s also exploring new opportunities for cancer. Even its secretive, Ottawa-like government now concedes that the country’s industries use the nation’s rivers as industrial urinals.
Although with the conservatives in charge there might be hope for us…
I wondered generally why there wasn’t as much ‘Fisking’ as was popular a couple years back. I think it’s because most of this crap is self ‘Fisking’. Here is another example I pulled off National Newswatch. This moron actually thinks the Mulroney events are a Harper/Rove plot to distract the liberals from the impending doom we face from glow ball worming, poverty etc http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/columnists/story.html?id=7fa2b23b-a2a6-4b36-8508-494f57afb125
Damn it, Kate. Don’t force me to read the G & M????!!
John West, over the next century over 6 billion people will die! The horrorr and shame and guilt. Government must do something!
Nikiforuk wrote a pretty good book about modern education several years ago, one that I think many readers of this blog would find congenial: If I’m So Smart, What Am I doing In School?
Go figure.
You people ever wonder how billions of donated dollars to cancer research produces sweet bugger all. How come blacks in Africa rarely get skin cancer, when Americans who use products with SPF do? Ever wondered about the fluoride put into our public drinking water? Does anyone here even know what fluoride does or is?
The only doctors and dentists I respect are those who speak up and tell the truth…..I don’t know too many of them…most are cowards and are self-serving, not to mention egotistical idiots.
The review in the Washington Post’s Book World section was closer to the mark:
