At Angus Reid;
IS LORNE CALVERT DOING A GOOD JOB AS PREMIER OF SASKATCHEWAN?
Update – here’s another!
I was undecided, until I looked over to the host site’s blogroll and noticed the link to rabble*.
“Tommy Douglas, Not Dead Enough!”
So I voted for Grant Devine.

[deleted – off topic. ED]
Saskatchewan could be an economic powerhouse in the same league with Alberta, but Lorne and his merry band of talking head yes-men are the dead weight holding us back. This man is an embarassment to us to say the least.
Watching from Alberta I would say he is doing a crapy job. I think our Premier is fast headed in that direction.
Yup, I was in a rush and made an error. Thanks, I am less embarrased now. = TG
Saskatchewan, where have your children gone?
Anywhere else but here. That is the legacy to which the NDP must answer to.
Migration from that province to Alberta and B.C. is the true measuring stick of a (any) political party in power. Calvert and those who rate him must ask the question, why would children still prefer to immigrate to Alberta even when they do not have necessarily a job to immediately go to, to face homelessness, impoverishment, big city traffic and accompanying stress and much higher costs, loneliness and separation from family rather than stay in Saskatchewan where there are in fact jobs to be had?
The answer is really quite simple. Hope for a future. They get that in Alberta. Did the NDP do anything in the last 15 years in power to insure a stable and prosperous future? Apparently not, because the running shoes are doing the walking right on outta’ there.
I was looking for some cheap property to purchase, and in looking at Saskatchewan found it is indeed cheap. But the property taxes are 3 time’s as expensive as here in BC. Thank God we got rid of the NDP gov. here.
Kate, you’re supposed to vote for Gardiner! 😉
Lorne Calvert- never heard of him. (Not exactly sure where Saskatchebush is located, neither. What is your point?
“Kate, you’re supposed to vote for Gardiner! ;-)”
Or maybe Ross Thatcher! (I voted for Devine, too)
Tommy who?
Hope for a future. They get that in Alberta.
Yes, but housing costs are insane in many parts of Alberta. I can understand the demand/price phenomenon, but the only possible advantage to a 2 bedroom shack selling for, say, $750,000 is if someone cashes out (or is able to buy expensive, pretty stuff by borrowing against the perceived value).
In the end, unless one moves to a cheaper area real-estate-wise, the only people that win are the brokers/agents and the financing companies because sellers are still forced to pay inflated prices for their “upgrade” house.
The losers are those in the bottom end of the market (families starting out, for example) who want to purchase their first home but cannot afford a 3 or 4 thousand dollar per month mortgage.
A 3 or 4K monthly payment is just unreachable for most people.
Yeah well, the lefty losers rattle on endlessly on the internet how disgusting the suburbs are and how offensive it is that people want to have way more house than they really need, so expensive houses must be a very good thing to the political left, it will force most people to cram themselves into small apartments and there’s more social justice in that, plus it’s like really good for the environment and prevents tsunamis. Eh?
The best view of Sask. is in the rear view mirror! (After the dust clears, of course.)
(Its a damn good place to store the relatives also.)

Housing Alberta vs Saskatchewan – you decide as you drive the Yellowhead through Lloydminster. One the east side of the 4th Meridian housing looking slightly decrepit built in the late 50’s early 60’s fashion. West of the 4th new houses in new subdivisions each house with new vehicles parked in the driveway. Amazing the difference a political line makes.

Currently 83% to 5% in Grant’s favour versus Tommy. (Can you spell “SDAalanche”?)
Ah those equipped with a IQ are never happy with reality so they just love to freep those internet polls.
Yeah CRB, and I’m sure the consensus of SK AND your relatives is you look best heading over the horizon.
“Currently 83% to 5% in Grant’s favour versus Tommy. (Can you spell “SDAalanche”?)”
Quite indicative of the mentality here at SDA.
Shocker. Alert. SDA readers vote for a fiscal conservative over a commie pinko. And I thought all you SDA’ers were leftoids. Thanks for pointing it out Babs.
The same Grant Devine that lead the kickback Government?
Why am I not surprised . . . .
Question> Why do moonbats/leftards consider it an insult to point out that a conservative/libertarian type is NOT a wannabe commie/leftard/moonbat/idiot. It actually serves to reinforce how RIGHT we are.
(begin quote)
“Four candidates were on the slate for the nomination to run for the Conservatives in the riding of Souris-Moose Mountain. One of them was former provincial premier Grant Devine.
This morning it was announced that he would not be allowed to stand for nomination. Tom Jarmin was interviewed by telephone on John Gormley Live:
“This is a final process, there is no appeal to this decision”.
Despite heavy prodding by Gormley, there were no further explanations offered. Ken Sutherland, president of the local party board, indicated that he has not received an explanation either, and that the association had no input into the national committee decision. The local board has a special meeting called for tomorrow evening, and may consider setting aside the nomination meeting to await the Conservative’s selection of a new national leader.
That Devine oversaw a controversial administration is an understatement. They governed the province through some of the most devasting years of the 1980’s – deficits created mostly by low grain, oil and potash prices, drought and astronomical interest rates placed the province at the brink of bankruptcy. After their defeat, a scandal unfolded that involved the conviction of several provincial MLA’s for improper spending – some were egregious abuses of public funds, but some were blatantly political witchhunts by the NDP.
Some of the MLA’s charged were acquitted on the same evidence that others were convicted on. Some of the charges stemmed from the problems caused by lists of approved expenses that were vague and obsolete. Purchases of computer software for a constituency office could be considered a breach of the guidelines, for example.
But there is no question as to the continuing popularity and reputation of Grant Devine in his home riding of Souris-Moose Mountain. I grew up in the region and our family still farms there. In the extreme southeast of the province, the oil rich rural riding represents one of the most loyal small “c” conservative regions in the country.
No wrongdoing was ever alleged or charged against Devine himself. An eloquent and sincere advocate of provincial interests, he holds two Ph.D.s and is highly knowledgable about agriculture and the issues that concern the province. For this, he still receives widespread respect and support.” (end of quote)
An unimpeachable source; Small Dead Animals, February 19TH, 2004.
Devine got elected, by the way, mainly on a promise to subsidize any mortgage that had to be renewed by home owners at a rate HIGHER THAN 13.25%.
13.25 percent!!! Don’t foget double digit unemployment in Canada… oh yes, 12%, 13%, 14% annual inflation rates. Those times were just plain nuts.
The best break the New Democrats ever got was losing that election in April, 1982.
The funniest thing about the “SK Best Premier” poll is that Calvert isn’t even listed.
Is this like a Dallas episode and we’ll all wake up and realize that the Calvert Years were a bad dream?
(I keep double-checking so I don’t sound like an idiot but, no, he’s not on the list.)

Paul: A 3 or 4K monthly payment is just unreachable for most people.
Perhaps there’s a market solution available to remedy that market failure.
“SDA readers vote for a fiscal conservative over a commie pinko”
Well clearly they are not voting for a fiscal conservative if they are voting for Devine.
meeshir – you may want to actually read the link
“Calgarygrit is running Canada’s Greatest Premier contest, and this is where you vote for the Saskatchewan nominees. With the exclusion of the current premier, you can vote for any of Saskatchewan’s thirteen premiers.”
Yeah right.
Any other answer other than Tommy Douglas is a sin! Go see Sicko and realize how luck you are to live in Canada. And it all started with Tommy, who was voted only last year as the greatest Canadian ever! Can’t take that away from him, you unsophisticated right-wing nutters!
“And it all started with Tommy, who was voted only last year as the greatest Canadian ever!”
Behold the voting power of the SGEU.
Obviously you have a little trouble accepting Tommy’s place in history and instead, speak in riddles. I mean who the hell knows what “SGEU” stands for. Is that some kind of special nerd code name that only R.W.N. (Right Wing Nutters) understand? It is time to take your H.O.O.Y.A and give the man his due! That’s right — the greatest Canadian! Or do you pine for an American-style health care system which is essentially E.M.F.H (Every Man For Himself) and B.O.F.I.C. (Bend Over For Insurance Companies).
Slim…
A.Y.F.C.?
I’m investing in a “Rainy Day” fund. If my daughter, my wife, or myself have to head for Rochester, Mn. to get timely treatment (MRI, biopsy, etc… 6 weeks will NOT be an option) and then sue the Canadian health care system for recompense, as well as legal costs incurred through such a lawsuit.
Or, the Jacques Chaouli decision by the Supreme Court can just be recognized, officially, as an alternative. That’s eminently fair, don’t you think?
Careful; I’d say there is a correct answer to that last question, Slim. You don’t want to confirm that you are indeed F.C.
