    WASHINGTON — An accused enemy combatant held at Guantanamo Bay told a military hearing he was physically as well as mentally tortured there by having to read a newsletter full of ‘crap,’ being forced to use unscented deodorant and shampoo and having to play sports with a ball that would not bounce.
    Majid Khan of Pakistan denied any connection to Al Qaeda and said he was tortured and his family hounded by U.S. authorities, according to a redacted transcript released Tuesday by the Pentagon.
    Khan told an April 15 hearing called to determine whether he was rightly classified as an “enemy combatant” that he also had his baby pictures taken from him, that cleaners left marks on his cell walls and that detainees have no DVD players or other entertainment.
    At one point, Kan said he wrote on his walls, “stop torturing me, I need my mails, newspaper and my lawyer.”
    Khan was captured in Pakistan in 2003. The military says he has provided support to Al Qaeda and has expressed a desire to assassinate Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharaff. U.S. government authorities have said that Khan was also involved in plots to blow up American gas stations and poison U.S. reservoirs. The April 15 hearing is the first step in possible war crimes charges against him.

    Dion has no clue about defense policy and doesn’t want to know. He has yet to apologize for smearing Cdn soldiers with allegations of complicity in torture (since disproven), and has shown he will use any group, the military, the mounties, anyone, as pawns and scapegoats in his quest for power.
    Good luck, Dionsky. It is clear he doesn’t want election now, or maybe ever. He would rather use negativism and attempt to control parliament from his opposition office. He must be aware that his party is broke, has no ideas, and his misgivings about his leadership, and prospects for power, in the party are being borne out.
    How the Liberals can stomach this guy as their caretaker leader until 2009 is beyond me. Then again, he will be creamed by his betters in an election anyway, so what the heck.

  19. This past week I tried to post a couple of messages over at climatedenial.org, they were wondering why “otherwise intelligent people” can’t just believe that AGW is a fact and stop nay saying.
    Like I said, I posted a couple of times, one on AIT’s short comings, they were crying about The Great Global Warming Swindle like it was produced by Lucifer himself. Someone there actually asked if there were any minor error in AIT that anyone could take exception to.
    The other post was about Fred Singer, lightning rod for alramists.

    The reason for the sale???:
    Ontario taxes brewers at a higher rate as they make more beer, and higher taxes held down company profits last year.
    Brick will lose its small-brewer tax reduction entirely this year, so profits are unlikely to pick up again until next year, chief executive officer Doug Berchtold said last month.
    Taxed into oblivion.

    Just another craft brewer that outgrew their roots! It may well be that the business environment in Comtario is poison but that’s not the reason they are taken over!
    When they went public and embarked on the growth trajectory and higher production targets with too many brands to sustain quality it was the end. Everything else is just the natural course of events.
    Canadian independents?
    We have three in Winnipeg alone that will continue to grow and prosper based on their product quality. Western Canada has at least a half dozen more.
