  1. Most telling comment thus far has been from Gormley himself. He is unable to read the questionable scenes from “The Wars” on the radio because it is too graphic and against the law.
BUT YOUR CHILD CAN READ THIS IN CLASS!

  2. “Child”? We are talking about 17 and 18 year-olds here. I hope you have sold your television because the stuff in that book doesn’t even come close to what I bet you would let your “kids” watch.

  3. Homosexual porn might be nice and kosher from the Turdeau’s Charter point of view, but the real tough question Canadian society should ask itself is whether we as a country are interested in the increasing numbers of SSM/homo couples/homosexuals. Preaching from the porn books in schools guaranteed to increase those numbers. Right now what I see is a closet homosexual recruiting at school.

The Wars is not on the recommended list of resources to be used in English Classes for Grade 12.
If you want to know the curriculum your child is being taught, you can get the curriculum from your school, or online.
I don’t know what the teacher’s “agenda” was in this case, but it wasn’t a very smart move to use this book, without thinking of the implications the quoted passage would have on students, parents, and community.
As for the argument that students are exposed to “this stuff anyway”, that’s not what schools are in the business of. The mandate of a school is to teach, not go along with pop culture.
And…not all students fall into the category of them being exposed to “this stuff anyway.” Where do the rights of those students and their parents come in?
It’s a good thing that this was brought out into the open, so that teachers who might take liberties with the material they are choosing to teach from, are brought back into line that they have a curriculum to teach, and not their own agenda.
It’s also good because parents can now know that they can empower themselves by reading up on the curriculum being taught.

  5. Seems as if this is a is a strategy in North America? No mention if the sub teacher in this case is a lesbian.

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal portray cowboys who fall in love with each other in ‘Brokeback Mountain’
A 12-year-old girl who says she was traumatized when her teacher showed the film “Brokeback Mountain” featuring love scenes with homosexual cowboys is suing the Chicago Board of Education for $500,000.
“What happens in Ms. Buford’s class stays in Ms. Buford’s class,” is what the substitute teacher told eighth-grade students at Ashburn Community Elementary School after showing the R-rated movie, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court.
According to reports, the student, Jessica Turner, claims she suffered psychological distress after watching the movie, which stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as two cowboys who fall in love and includes love scenes between the two men and between the men and their wives.
“It is very important to me that my children not be exposed to this,” Turner’s grandfather and guardian, Kenneth Richardson, told the Chicago Tribune. “The teacher knew she was not supposed to do this. … It’s like I told the principal, she should have better control over her teachers.”

    Principal Jewel Diaz
The suit names Ashburn Principal Jewel Diaz and the substitute teacher, known only in the complaint as Ms. Buford, as well as the board, and alleges negligence, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
It states Buford showed the video without permission from parents and guardians.
Richardson told the Tribune his granddaughter was traumatized after watching the movie and told him, “They made me watch this bad movie.”
In the fall of 2005, he says he complained to Diaz about reading material that included curse words.
“This was the last straw,” Richardson said of “Brokeback.”
“I feel the lawsuit was necessary because of the warning I had already given them on the literature they were giving out to children to read. I told them it was against our faith.”
In May 2006, an English teacher in Kentucky was under investigation for showing her students a clip from the controversial film.
The school district later settled a lawsuit that resulted in anti-harassment training for all staff and students.
In March 2006, a high-school student in Oregon produced a film based on “Brokeback Moutain” for a class assignment that included two boys in bed together. He showed his film to his Marine Biology class then was called into a meeting with three vice principals and told he was being transferred to a local community college to finish out his senior year. He later was allowed to return, however.

  6. Sorry about being completely off topic Kate but just heard that Jerry Falwell has died. Lefties the world over are celebrating.

  7. We have a fundimental culture and belief system of freedom of choice and majority rules in North America… so why is it when it comes to things like this, where in North America, censorship is now starting to be the montra of the left or concidered as discrimination when applied to any special interest group that might swing that way???
Let’s say 5% of the North American Population of Canada and the USA or even go extreme and be really crazy and say 10% are “alternative life style” people… so that means that 10% get to dictate to the other 90% of us straight people that 100% of high school students need to read this crap in highschool now that’s totally unrepresentative of 90% of the population???? … how the FU%^ does that justify itself or our tax dollars being spent??? In the middle east this simply wouldn’t happen…you know why?? They’d line them all up and shoot them… hmmmm… To each there own but to the special interest groups I have just one simple thing to say… don’t push your belief structures or political correctness on me or my family because you feel the political need to justify your existance unless you’re prepared to face the fall out when you push things a step too far.

  8. A lawsuit is better than carbques and murder in the street. I hope he wins the big bucks and those teachers are fired, never to teach again. For too long we have allowed this crap to go on for fear of being called a bigot, homophope, racist or worse. Well, let the name calling begin. Political Correctness has been nothing but censorship and stopping the truth from being told.

  9. I agree Aaron, god damn homo’s have infiltrated our schools! And in some master plan to eventually wipe the human race are attempting to brain wash our children into becoming like them! It’s genius really, by simply exposing kids to this they know that the kids will automatically turn gay. We are in deep, deep, trouble my friend. It’s a dark future ahead for those us who believe WASPS are the only beings fit enought to inhabit this earth.

  10. “…so that means that 10% get to dictate to the other 90% of us straight people that 100% of high school students need to read this crap in highschool now that’s totally unrepresentative of 90% of the population????”
Mr Ed, have you ever considered the possibility that, in modern-day Canada, your highly puritanical social conservatism is itself a 10 percent (or less) minority stance?
