From Hansard, Mar. 19 2007;
Hon. Wayne Easter (Malpeque, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, in an earlier answer, the minister failed to net out the $600 million he will take from farmers annually by his attack on the Canadian Wheat Board. A friend of the Minister of Agriculture, the Market Choice Alliance has, by letter attached to a Conservative member’s parliamentary mail-out, called upon farmers to inform other neighbours on who is and who is not a Wheat Board supporter.
The establishment of an enemies list in Canada is wrong. Will the Minister of Agriculture condemn the establishment of this enemies list by neighbour informing on neighbour today?
Hon. Chuck Strahl (Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, CPC): Mr. Speaker, it reminds me of that old Chilliwack song, She talks crazy talk. I am not actually sure what he is talking about, but I know this, we want to listen to western Canadian farmers and we want to hear what they say about marketing choice. We think they want to move to more marketing choice.

Do we the AG reports on the CWB and Foundations in April ?
Wayne Easter = Ernest T. Bass
Have no comment on the wheat board because of circumstance and location. But damn I miss Chilliwack.
Hopefully this issue for the farmers will be be settled and it will be:
“gone gone gone”
Will Chuck Strahl now be accused of being a bully for calling Wayne Easter a she?
Easter needs new meds, really, really badly.
I’m hoping to get the audio clip. It has to be heard to be appreciated.
The CWB will never disappear in Canada. Why? Simple. Socialism has taken to big a hold on this country. We are fubared,to put it mildly.
Hope you get the clip Kate, it’s priceless!
Old Wayner yells loud enough to pop a vein, Elmer Gantry comes to mind. He’s trying to make a BIG impression, his seat isn’t certain next time around.
Reminds me of another old song: “deep in my heart I do believe, that we shall overcome some day.”
Chilliwack the group, not the place:
And if you fall for her lies
In a while you will find
You can dance, you can sing
Like a puppet on a string
But you ain’t in control
Of a single thing
She talks crazy talk
She talks crazy talk
She’ll tell you anything
She can make a man go mad
Is it only me or is it rather suspicous that Easter-n politicians and Easter-n farmers are in “support” of western farmers and the CWB? Might it be because the artificially low “subsidies” that western farmers get is only for subsistance living while giving less productive eastern farmers a monopoly in reciving a livable income through sales of crops on the free market. BTW follow the money of the potato farmer and you’ll find more than spuds.
Theatrics are interesting but diversionary, wake me when western producers have dual desk marketing
If we in the West are forced to stay under the CWB please expand it to cover all of Canada. That way all farmers can share in its benefit…
Fergy:
Chilliwack performed here in Whitehorse a little over a year ago.
Let’s just say not in top form. If you search the Rick Mercer archives around Feb March 06 you might get a listen. Anyhow after listening to them on the radio for a month straight I had to start apologizing for living in the ’80s.
I had my fill for another 2 decades.
An even better comment from the Hansard that day.
“Mr. Speaker, it used to be just the New Democratic Party that participated in the conspiracy business, but now they have developed a clairvoyancy over on the Liberal benches. They know what is going to be done with this stuff.
I simply put it to the House that it is a difficult and challenging thing to keep up with the changing positions of the Liberal leader. This is now his fifth position on the environment. We need to have somebody there to watch what those positions are so we can answer the questions properly from him.”
I watched the shown down between Easter and Chuck Strahl, it was priceless. Easter is such a little pompous ass. It was good to see him put “down” in his place!
Justthinkin, you are right. 60% of voters will vote for some form of socialism in Canada. There will never be a true conservative right in this country. Just look at the results from previous elections.
Blackroc said: “If we in the West are forced to stay under the CWB please expand it to cover all of Canada. That way all farmers can share in its benefit…”
You’re onto something there, if we can’t seem to budge the CWB monopoly from western shoulders let’s share it with eastern producers. I’m sure its easier to expand a state monopoly in Canada than it is to remove it….might as well share the misery and graft.
Yeah, the gun registry and other great programs cover all of Canada so why not the CWB?
Expanding the CWB to the East would defeat the prime purpose of the CWB, and that is to transfer the agricultural wealth from Western Canada to other more needy (ie voter rich) parts of the country.
No CWB is needed in Ontario and Quebec because their agricultural wealth is already there.
And anyone who tried to transfer it out of their region would probably be dead meat in 30 seconds or less.
What is truly amazing is that the present Premiers of Manitoba and Sask still do understand this simple fact.
They need to be run off the job immediately,if not sooner.
Saskatchewan’s and Manitoba’s NDP government’s don’t want it removed because there as socialist as it get’s, there’s a reason Saskatchewan hasn’t boomed like Alberta, becasue we keep electing Socialist’s!
