  1. Yes it is better in Britain, they allow private health care to run parallel. Unlike Canada that has only a universal death care system.

  2. This article is not about Canada vs most of the civilized world health care but rather how government can blow taxpayer’s money. Government management has a tendency to be very inefficient when those administrating do not have to worry about job security. Can you say: gun registry? I thought you could.

  3. Can you say
“it’s no better in Britain than it is here.”
This does not mean the rest of the civilised world, just a comprison between Britain and Canada’s commie system as in N Korea and Cuba.

  4. This reminded me of the hilarius episode of the T.V. series “Yes, Minister”. The minister wanted to shut down a public hospital to save money, but his civil service adviser told him that would be extremely bad press since that particular hospital had won many awards for being the most eficient in England and was a favorite with the unions. Through the subsequent dialogue, it became aparent that over the previous two years it had a zero percent patient occupancy. Priceless!

  5. Replacing private health care with a socialized system is trading a situation where some cannot get care unless they can afford it for a situation where some cannot get care even if they can afford it.
    That’s not exactly an improvement.

  6. Actually…its a lot worse there than it is here. The taxes are ridiculously high as is the general cost of living.
al-lea, I remember that episode. It was brilliant.

an excellent comment, it seems that in general term, this is the way the burocracy rules the will of the electorate (elected “representatives”).
An extract from the ‘Yes Minister’ website:
    THE COMPASSIONATE SOCIETY
“Why should we close a hospital because it has no patients? We don’t disband the Army just because there isn’t a war.”
