A Question Of Loyalty

Statement by Stéphane Dion, Leader of the Official Opposition, on the resignation from Caucus of Wajid Khan, MP for Mississauga-Streetsville

January 5, 2007
“It is with regret that I have received word of Mr. Khan’s decision to leave the Liberal Caucus and join the Conservative Party.
“As a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, I was never comfortable with Mr. Khan serving as an advisor to a Conservative Prime Minister, as Mr. Khan has done since August of last year.
“As Leader of the Party, I felt it imperative that he decide to which party he would ultimately be loyal. Mr. Khan has now made that decision.”

  1. Here is Citoyen Dion’s response to Canadians:
Moi am a socialist, a Red-Green socialist. Mao Stlong is my Saviour; my loyalty is to Mao Stlong.
Mao’s message and mine is: Sclew Canada.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper should scrap the next GST cut in favour of new tax incentives for Canadians to go green, says new Liberal Leader Stephane Dion.

  2. Jason is editing/revising:
“That is why I started a petition to demand Khan’s resignation.[The following portion is italicized.]However, the Tories created so many fake signatures so quickly that it is now meaningless. Glad to know that they are so scared of seeing what people really think.”
Message from 77 year-old Mao Stlong now included:
    192. Maurice Strong Beijing, China Further evidence of the degeneration of Canada. I urge all my Canadian friends to join me in China, where such switches are out of the question.

  3. Based on his comment,
What is Dion’s view about Liberals working in the now “conservative” civil service.
It appears all liberals should quit their government jobs.
Is Dion capable of making a single utterance that isn’t a radical overstatement?

  4. Dions quest is to create a carbon tax imposed on all hard working canadians.
This will mean less takehome pay for canadians only to see the money sent out of country to support the kyoto money laundering scheme.
This is what Canadians Want & need, will be the spin.

  5. jason the poll taker and king maker checks up on the web site and is horrified at the havoc visited upon his dear project so quickly by the right wing cabal.
    LOL !!!
THATS WHUT YA GETS FER PITCHIN YER TENT IN THE LIEBERAL CAMP SIRRAH.

  6. Does anyone believe Dion’ “he left because I made him”-line?
He seems very out of touch…I’ll wager this was Khan’s move, and Dion is trying to save face, and that he didn’t have a clue what Khan was up to.(note the denial stage as reported faithfully by CBC up to a few hours before the Khan-Harper announcement.)

  7. Hey Ryan, and others accusing us of hypocrisy:
Sure we objected to Scotty and Belinda. But you Liberals defended their actions loud and long, stating that it is fair play. Belinda’s case in particualr was iffy because it seemed like she bargained her defection and the propping up of the Martin government for a cabinet post. But hey, apparently as long as no one could uncover a signed contract to that effect, it was okay in a nudge nudge wink wink sor of way.
The Liberals established the rules to this game. We are playing by them.
If the ref puts the whistle in his pocket, only a fool avoids cross checking on principle, especially when the other team is doing it.
So you are correct. Nothing to see here. Harper is playing by the rules established by the Liberals.

  8. It is now obvious that Stephen Dion is no different than his mentor(s) in the Liberal Party. Kahn was given a choice……the Liberal Party of Canada, or the Country of Canada. He wisely chose to serve his country before his political party. A lesson obviously lost on the Liberals.

  9. Dion tries to sound like he is sooo in control. Does anyone believe he initiated this? He seems so out of touch…I’ll wager Khan brought his decision to Dion and as usual the so-called Lib leader had to spin out a statement.Hoping someone will give us more details soon.

  10. Message to Jason Cherniak re his ridiculous statement about the petition he launched to unseat Wajid Khan, “Glad to know that they are so scared of seeing what people really think.”:
Where was the support for the Liberals in your petition? If Lib-laydowns had weighed in, they could have outnumbered the (hilarious) signaTories, but they didn’t, did they?
Doesn’t this tell you something about Liberal supporters? Either they’re too lazy to sign your petition or there aren’t enough of them to tip the scales.
All’s fair in love and war, Jason. Quit your belly-aching.

  11. Jason, clearly floor crossings will invite different responses based on party. That is expected. What is not acceptable is for the press to engage in a double standard (Stronach-evidence of Harper’s bad leadership; Khan-Harper is a very bad man). That’s the objection here.

  12. Any examples of “Khan-Harper is a very bad man”? I haven’t seen any. However, here’s some Coservative party spin from cbc.ca:
“Harper said Dion had pushed Khan to make the decision.
“Khan ‘wasn’t asking the Conservative Party [to join], but in the end the choice was made by Mr. Dion,’ Harper said. ‘Mr. Dion said Mr. Khan … couldn’t be a true Liberal and participate positively in the government of Canada.'”
Stronach left because of Harper and Khan left because of Dion, blah, blah, blah…Who cares? Why can’t these people just admit that it was their own decision?
Ultimately, the people in his riding will decide in the next election if it was a good decision.

  13. I did. Surprisingly neutral reporting. You are the one saying that the media is accusing Harper and Khan of being bad, so it’s up to you to prove it. I’m not going to do your research for you.

  14. At 2:05 PM, rabbit said…
In December 2005, Bill C-251 was put to a vote in parliament. This bill would force MPs who cross the floor to stand for re-election.
The bill was defeated, with 93 out of 94 Liberals voting against. Dion was absent or abstained. The NDP were soldily for, the Bloc were solidly against, and the tories were divided (40 for, 44 against).
Jason, your insistence that Khan stand for re-election seems completely out of sync with the position of the Liberal party for which you so faithfully labour. Can you comment on this? …-

  15. Recipe for Dion surprise:
1 tablespoon of Paul Martin’s blubbering and poor judgment (my vision is different from Harper’s vision because I have the true vision for Canada’s vision blah blah blah)
2 tablespoons Chrétien corruption and poor English
1 cup of Liberal arrogance and hypocrisy
    1/2 cup of French citizenship
    A dash of socialism
And the voice of Kermit the frog
Mix together and bake on very low media heat. Otherwise the thing will explode and create a big mess 🙂

  16. Garth Turner left his seat in Tory caucus unoccupied and Khan took it! Good on him. Khan learned during 2004-06 that it is better to be in the government caucus than the oppostion caucus, or no caucus at all, as Turner will learn to his cost.
This is not impulsive. Martin brought Khan into the Liberals and Martin jumped ship on election night. Khan was then a political free-agent. He took on the gig as PM Harpers mid-east advisor to kick the tires and do a test drive, and he obviously liked what he saw. As Dion was a Chretien creature, not a Martin creature, Khan felt no loyalty to him. And comparison shopping between Dion and Harper as leaders, he saw clearly who the best leader was. So he decided to follow that leader and closed the deal. I call that political entrepreneurship. …-

  17. Iberia. Hmm, let’s see. Stronach defects. Next day, entire womens’ caucus, covered all day long by CTV, indignantly flails about the poor treatment of Belinda, and, by extension, women. Criticism of Harper abounds for days. Khan defects (notwithstanding the hysteria around Emerson). Jeffrey Simpson reports Khan is a loser anyway and will lose bad anyway. The argument that he won the riding by 7000 votes ignored (they apparently didn’t really like him, except he was a Liberal).
Story fades away quick, consigned to google and blogs. Re: MSM thinks Harper bad man. Notice no italics around. This represents my belief that the MSM has been hostile to Mr Harper from the get go. It’s my belief, that is your citation.
This is a but small example of, what I believe, is media bias against what they perceive as non-progressive. Notice I didn’t say conservative, because I do not believe the press is ideological. If they were, there’s no way they would have turned on Martin as they did in the last election. Overall, though, they are not balanced. Maybe I wonder why George Strombopoulis (sic) goes to Poland to ask the citizenry if they know Stephen Harper. Maybe it’s CBC’s “Reality Check” where Conservative promises only are audited and criticized. Maybe it’s Jane Taber being sure to give the Liberal the last word in “Question Period.”
That’s my perspective. I know many people of the left persuasion who think the press is corporate and right wing in orientation. This is not a provable argument, so there you go.

  18. Stronach was called a “whore” by people in the Conservative party for switching, and other nasty things. Khan did not receive treatment anywhere near as hateful.
The MSM IS corporate, thus by extension right-wing. Here’s a good litmus test for you: find something in the MSM that deals with organized labour in a positive manner. Good luck. Even the so called left-wing CBC locked out it’s employees a couple of years ago.
BTW, Liberals (party) are not left-wing. They support the corporate elite. (Sometimes they steal ideas from the NDP if it can get them elected.) It’s just a slightly different elite than the one the Cons support.

  19. Stronach and whoring. She was paid to cross.
    Khan was not.
That being said, I dont like anyone crossing though bigger politicians than anyone we have in Canaduh have before. Winston comes to mind.

  20. I have searched in vain for a photo of Kwahns shoes, were they nice. Maybe landslide annie knows.

  21. Hey, Canada is becoming just like India! Here, we call it horse trading.Accompanied by lots of money too.To the average Indian, what Khan did is nothing to get upset about.Come to India to see how parliamentary ‘democracy’ works!Canadian polticians are still amateurs in comparison to their Indian counterparts.

  22. Iberia, If you look up the definition of whore in wikipedia…”Cultural usage varies widely, and the use of the term as a pejorative means that it is used to indicate many acts that do not classify in any way as prostitution (e.g. a women that has passionate sex outside her marriage, or an unmarried woman that had “a good time” with multiple men in a relatively short time frame, as in both cases either “lust” or, though less likely, “love” are the motivation). ”
I don’t think that Belinderella falls too far outside the definition.

  23. Jason, aka The Voice of the Liberal Party of Canada, smells a dog named Kyoto, aka Citoyen Dion.
Weston smells sleaze, corruption, crime, criminal charges = AdScam.
Jason: “The fact of the matter is that the Tories have begun a campaign to assassinate the good character of Stéphane Dion. Some of their attempts will work better than others. They will make fun of just about everything he says and does in an attempt to make it seem like he is off balance. As a person who finds things funny when he shouldn’t, I don’t find this surprising. I recognize that just about anything can be turned into a mockery – just watch The Aristocrats for evidence. However, it is important for people reading blogs to recognize that this is a concerted campaign. Don’t fall for the spin.”
Weston smells an AdScammer, aka the Librano$, aka Citoyen Dion:
    ADSCAM REARS ITS UGLY HEAD
Mounties’ call to Sun Media shows scandal is far from dead — if anything, it could return with a vengeance on Grits
We recently received an unusual call from a member of the RCMP commercial crime squad in Montreal, seeking our assistance in the feds’ ongoing criminal investigations of the sponsorship scandal.
    […]
And, unfair or not, like Martin, Dion will be vulnerable to the obvious political attack: As a Quebec minister throughout the Adscam years — and the minister responsible for the Quebec unity file, no less — if he didn’t know anything was amiss, he certainly should have.
    ‘Sleaze’ tag
Whether Dion’s image as Mr. Clean can erase his party’s tarnish remains to be seen, but it won’t be easy.
A special SES Research-Sun Media poll at the end of last summer found a large number of Canadian voters still thought of the Liberal party in terms such as “sleaze and corruption.” ..-

Well, looks like Cherniak’s little hissy fit is over. Now he’s gone back to his Harper lied about talking to Dion on the nation motion.Problem is Cherniak won’t post the link showing Dion was the one who misled the media. Here’s my post to Jason.See if he puts it up.
Jason.i would be happy to post the article where Dion stated during a radio interview Harper called him and wanted his advice.
I’ve tried posting this several times on your blog but for some reason you won’t allow your readers to see it.
So once again, allow the post or stop with this blatant lie.
    Sorry,i know it’s off topic,but,here it is:
    Thursday, 23 November 2006
NATIONAL NEWSWATCH – During an interview Thursday afternoon with New Brunswick talk radio show host Tom Young, Liberal Leadership candidate Stephane Dion took partial credit for Prime Minister Harper’s stand asking the House of Commons to declare that Quebec is a nation — “within a united Canada.” ….
Describing himself as a “trouble fixer,” Dion told host Tom Young that the prime minister called him for advice on how to solve the Quebec Nation issue. Dion indicated he advised the PM on how to fix the problem. He also indicated that he will be supporting the government motion because it’s very close to the solution he freely gave the prime minister.
“All future references to Dion will include “Trouble Fixer.” On a side note, and in addition to the above account of Dion’s interview. Dion said Harper sought his advice on the situation because he was the “Unity Minister” in a former Liberal government.”
    (calgary grit)

  25. “It all stated in a traditional way. Ezra Levant wrote a column questioning Dion’s automatic French citizenship that comes from his mother being a French citizen [UPDATE i.e., his mother applied for it when he was born in the same way that she applied for his Canadian birth certificate].” (cherniak)…-
The UPDATE inserted by Jason is recent, within the last few hours.
Now we have an admission: Citoyen Dion, at birth, was not, ipso facto, a Frenchman. Dion’s maman applied for his French citizenship; it was granted by France.
Thus, for some time from birth Dion held only Canadian citizenship. Mon dieu. But, Jason says, maman Dion applied at the same time for a Canadian birth certificate? Really? There is no such thing as a Canadian birth certificate. What is Cherniak doing here?
Could it be that Dion is preparing to ask for his French citizenship to be revoked? Will Dion chuck his French citizenship? Zounds. Possible, non?
Jason knows; Cherniak was the Stéphane Dion Blog Campaign Co-Chair. Jason has the inside skinny on Dion.
    Tell us more.

  26. Is this the same dion that issued Khan an ultimatum re being in the caucus of one party and aiding and abetting the government. Isn’t this what he is saying he himself did. That man should just shut up. His memory is very poor if he can’t remember that he is the trouble fixer. Maybe that is what Khan was/is. And, the media let that slide. dion should know by now that every thing he says and does is under the microscope in the blogerspere. He can’t get away with anything. Poor Jason, he must be having a nervous breakdown, from all those liberals pretending to be conservatives that signed his petition.
