I am guessing that the USA will never take him off the watch list unless he appears at the Embassy in person and applies for a waiver or a visa of some sort. And that application would involve interviews and submitting proof regarding his residencies, whereabouts and employment, as well as providing personal references who will verify and criminal background checks. Also the following two paragraphs from the Stars report directly contradict each other.

In reading the comments on Prime Minister Harper’s Newsmaker of the Year, I am amazed at the venomous comments by the ‘progressives’. Similar tone is set over at Fark on the same story. It seems left-wing types tend to resort to name calling and personal attacks. Their definition of debate and discussion must be different than mine.
Good to see Ezra keeping the ‘Citoyen Dion’ story alive. I can’t wait to see what he digs up re Dion’s Parti Quebecois past. Too bad for the Liberals that they took so much glee in bringing up Harper’s ‘firewall’ letter, also from another past life. Geez, I wonder if the Conservative war room is saving up a real juicy Dion quote to spring on him at an awkward time ? Say in a media scrum in the last days of the next election campaign ?
Regarding “The View”‘s views–I can hardly believe these brain dead women have a job on television and are allowed to express their uninformed opinions on a daily basis. I know..it’s a coffee talk show but it’s an insult to intelligent people everywhere. At least Star Jones is gone–she was the most nauseating of the bunch.

Before the next election I think the liberals, especially those in the west, are going to wish they had picked someone else. Ken D as minister of sports would be ok. How about Scott B as minister of finance. And people are complaining about Ed Stelmach putting all losers and supporters in his cabinet.
Or maybe Joe will be appointed to the elections canada board, in charge of voting lists for the deceased. Then, maybe he will call on Hedy Fry to be minister of culture, with an emphasis on burning crosses. Please, voters in toronto, montreal and vancouver, have pity on our country. Just had to tell everyone that a just released report by the Fraser Institute has compared Canada’s heath care with the rest of the world and it isn’t that hot. What a surprise! Also the CBC story on it starts out with 3 paragraphs of counter-points by Friends of Medicare before even getting to the meat of the actual report.
First of all, can’t anyone see that the status quo just won’t cut it anymore (and hasn’t for a long time)? Secondly, anyone dare to say that the CBC didn’t put a negative spin on the story?

Night Watch: MADRID – AKI reports that the Spanish daily El Pais has said that based on an intelligence dossier compiled by European intelligence services, there are 200 terror suspects that are “potentially dangerous” in Europe.
The article is based on the investigations of the intelligence services of Spain, France, Great Britain and Germany. It even states some of the extremists have fought in Iraq against the occupation and were trained in camps there. [AKI]
Twenty of the suspects are known to be in Spain and are being investigated. The El Pais said Spain is regarded as a “hothouse” for terrorist recruitment. The suspects are all from North Africa, Morocco and Algeria. The extremists are seen as the al-Qaeda’s – Tehran’s Trojan Horse in Europe.

An interesting interview with a documentary film maker, who just completed a film on the mentality of the Muslim suicide killer and their family. Definitely worth reading, maybe even imperative.

What insights did you gain from making this film? What do you know that other experts do not know?
I came to the conclusion that we are facing a neurosis at the level of an entire civilization. Most neuroses have in common a dramatic event, generally linked to an unacceptable sexual behavior. In this case, we are talking of kids living all their lives in pure frustration, with no opportunity to experience sex, love, tenderness or even understanding from the opposite sex. The separation between men and women in Islam is absolute. So is contempt toward women, who are totally dominated by men. This leads to a situation of pure anxiety, in which normal behavior is not possible. It is no coincidence that suicide killers are mostly young men dominated subconsciously by an overwhelming libido that they not only cannot satisfy but are afraid of, as if it is the work of the devil. Since Islam describes heaven as a place where everything on earth will finally be allowed, and promises 72 virgins to those frustrated kids, killing others and killing themselves to reach this redemption becomes their only solution.
What was it like to interview would-be suicide bombers, their families and survivors of suicide bombings?
It was a fascinating and a terrifying experience. You are dealing with seemingly normal people with very nice manners who have their own logic, which to a certain extent can make sense since they are so convinced that what they say is true. It is like dealing with pure craziness, like interviewing people in an asylum, since what they say, is for them, the absolute truth. I hear a mother saying “Thank God, my son is dead.” Her son had became a shaheed, a martyr, which for her was a greater source of pride than if he had became an engineer, a doctor or a winner of the Nobel Prize. This system of values works completely backwards since their interpretation of Islam worships death much more than life. You are facing people whose only dream, only achievement is to fulfill what they believe to be their destiny, namely to be a shaheed or the family of a shaheed. They don’t see the innocent being killed, they only see the impure that they have to destroy.
How can we put an end to the madness of suicide bombings and terrorism in general?
Stop being politically correct and stop believing that this culture is a victim of ours. Radical Islamism today is nothing but a new form of Nazism. Nobody was trying to justify or excuse Hitler in the 1930s. We had to defeat him in order to make peace one day with the German people.
I think this comment by Dion is indicative of Dion’s narcissism. In referring to Ignatieff, he said:
“The race is over. Now I will work with him, but I’m the leader at the end of the day,” Dion said.”
I’m claiming that Dion, like Chretien, is narcissistic in a dysfunctional way; he showed that in his reaction to questions about his dual citizenship, when he immediately moved himself into the role of victim, for being a ‘dutiful son’. This ignored that having his mother’s citizenship had nothing to do with any duty to her, but, his aspirations to leadership of Canada required him to clarify his duty to Canada.
And I repeat, his abrogation of three themes; namely, the economy, the environment and social justice to himself and the Liberal Party, are the height of arrogance. Why? Because they are universal themes of all governments. Is he implying that Harper has no involvement in these areas?
A comment to Irwin Daisy – I don’t think that the Islamic separation of men and women is the ‘root cause’ of their fascism and suicidal crisis. After all, if that were true, this behaviour would have been endemic centuries ago. And, the separation of men and women, with men privileged and women kept in the household, has been a basic social format in all pastoral nomadic economies, in all agricultural economies, and in early industrialism – in Europe and all over the world.
I think what we are seeing is indeed a dysfunctional society, and I think that the root cause is that their ideology, Islam, which is primarily a sociopolitical system rather than a religion, set itself up as ‘fixed’, as immune to critique and change. And, that ideology is functional only, only, in a tribal socioeconomic and political system. It works in such a no-change, no-growth system.
But, the economies of the ME have moved out of the old tribal pastoral nomadic and peasant agriculture, into industrialism. BUT, the sociopolitical ideology has been unable to change. As a tribal system, it set up one tribe as dominant and rendered powerless the peoples of the other tribes. The economy, fueled by oil, enabled this tribal dominance to operate as a military dictatorship, and that meant that the people could not rebel.
What ought to have happened, is the collapse of tribalism and the mov’t into a civic political mode, that treats all citizens as equal. Instead, what was retained, was a one-tribe dominance, with the majority of the population kept out of any political, economic, authoritative roles. This is the root cause of Islamic fascism – a population completely trapped within tribalism, with ‘no place to go’. No power over the economy, no power over the gov’t.
And, an awareness, via modern communication, that this wasn’t a productive mode of life.
And, a massive move’t off the land and into the cities – to meaningless and powerless jobs.
This dysfunctionality enabled the focus on Islam as a death cult. Islam, in itself, glorifies death rather than life. It glorifies the group and the non-existence of the individual. It glorifies fighting the infidel. It also has attributes of peace and self-analysis – but, in a dysfunctional socioeconomic realm – these are abandoned and the population moves into a psychotic fascism.
The solution can only be to enable them to move out of tribalism and into a civic democratic lifestyle.

The opinions I posted are the filmmakers’. From reading the entire interview, I don’t get the idea that he is entirely blaming it on a dysfunctional male/female relationship. But you’d have to read the interview. I found it enlightening.
The modern day suicide bomber is enabled as the result of explosives. They, of course, didn’t have bombs several centuries ago. But they did have suicide troops called the hashashiyyin, which I’m sure you’ve heard of. These assassins were motivated similarily (separation from women, 72 black eyed virgins) with the addition of hashish. In an attempt to give them a taste of what they will receive in heaven for their martyrdom, they were knocked out and woke up drugged in a veritable paradise, surrounded by virgins. Once they passed out from wine, the vision was removed.
I believe this is just part of an overall mind controlling ideology, which is Islam.

I’d like to be as optimistic as you are about democracy as the solution. I’d agree, that this has worked many times before, ie Japan. However, with Islam, history has proven something else entirely. This is an ideology, where adherents are convinced they are doing the bidding of a diety. And the unforgiveable sin is disbelief.

Islam is artificially propped up by oil. Socialism as practiced in Quebec is artificially propped up by “equalization payments”. Without the propping up, Islam and socialism would just die out.
But Liberals have used “equalization” to bribe both Quebec and the ROC. Bribing Quebec is easy to understand but that the ROC has fallen for perpetual regional equalization is harder to understand. I guess the ROC was convinced if the bribes stopped then something bad would happen to them. Like the Islamofascists, the Liberals and their MSM propaganda machine created “immunity for us to criticize and change” anything, if we did, we were deemed to be “un-Canadian” a form of aposty to the Liberal religion. But now even McGuinty, a Liberal in Ontario no less, is saying ..enough, Ontario needs money for its own needs and infrastructure. So does the other propper-upper … Alberta.
This all comes back to Dion and his duel citizenship which is symbolic of the socialists’ transnational movement. That all cultures are equal. If Dion gives up on that idea, he is then on a slippery slope with equalization payments. It’s not a big leap to then say that if all cultures aren’t equal , then all regions aren’t.
Regions aren’t equal in an ecological sense so how and why would they be equal in an economic sense? That is impossible .
I think what scares the utopian Liberals is that we may be seeing the end of regional “welfare as we know it”. If regions in Canada had to stand on their own then Quebecers and Newfies would start to move to Fort McMurray … heh .. isn’t that what they’re starting to do? Could it be that the “victims” of equalization see the bribes for the tribes are coming to an end?

Unfortunately, as Macluhan pointed out, that civic democratic lifestyle is based on years of a printing press culture that the Muslim world largely ignored. They have moved from one oral/aural culture (the tribe) to another (TV culture) that is infinitely more intense. The Al-Jazeera’s of the world reinforce their hatred of the West by juxtaposing images of Western humiliation (e.g. World Trade Center) with images of Muslim jubilation, in a manner eerily reminiscent of Orwell’s “Two Minute Hate”.
Literate Western man types out emotionless prose in papers and blogs, and a thousand opinions fly; aural Muslim man chants and prays en masse, where no deviation from the litany can be permitted. In the madrassas in which young Muslims are schooled, much of the school day is spent chanting and memorizing the Koran. This creates a crushing conformity, with none of the diversity or clash of ideas we accept in the West as vital to a culture’s progress. Yes, the West is chaotic, but we accept that as the price paid for our movement forward.
Now, when a young Muslim, with Islam so deeply implanted through daily repetition (there is, from Islam’s point of view, a pragmatic reason for demanding five prayers a day) sees a Western world of wealth and splendour, led by Christian and Jewish “infidels”, compared to the relative poverty of all but a few Muslims, the easiest way to rationalize the dichotomy is to think the evil West stole Islam’s birthright (oil), and the West will continue to oppress Islam to keep oil cheap. (This, of course, ignores the fact that the West was more advanced than Islamic countries in the early 1800’s, years before the internal combustion engine was developed.)
This naturally develops into a hatred of Western ways, and as always been the case with young men who have no useful employment, that develops into violence. This will be no easy cycle to break, and certainly it won’t happen in the short time frame that Western democracies demand.

I agree with a lot of what you say, KevinB.
The ‘Magnificent 19″, the Toronto 17 and the London bombers, grew up in the west, or at least spent a great deal of time in the west. They had the full benefit of western education, democracy, liberty and luxury. To no avail.
The 9/11 crew drank, did drugs, went to see strippers and experienced every type of decadence, right up to getting on the planes. However, all sins were forgiven once they performed the greatest task that Allah commands of the faithful. In giving their lives to kill infidels, they obtained a free pass to heaven for themselves and their families.
Obviously, education, liberty and democracy didn’t change a thing.
The filmmaker (that I cited before), believes that the difference between a fanatic and a moderate is that the fanatic believes that the world will be dar el Islam in his lifetime. The moderate believes the same, but not in his lifetime. That’s why they are more accepting of others, more or less – or ‘moderate.’ However, he goes on to say that every successful terrorist attack converts another 20 million moderates into fanatics.

The depths of stupidity that those women find for themselves is insulting and makes a person wonder who is watching that show enough to keep them in advertisers and on the air.

Very nice, nomdenet. I think it’s a matter of responsibility for one’s choices.
For example, Quebec’s socialist lifestyle, which includes really cheap daycare for all, low university tuition, unionized workplaces, etc cannot be supported by its own tax base. It requires substantial financial input from the ROC, such as Ontario and Alberta. My question is – why should the taxpayers fund the choices, the expensive choices, made by one province -when those same choices are deemed too expensive for their own home provinces?
Again – Why should the Ontario and Alberta taxpayer fund the socialist lifestyle chosen by Quebec – when Quebecers themselves cannot afford to support this lifestyle and when it is also not available to the Ontario and Alberta taxpayers???
The regions in Canada have to economically stand on their own. Yes, basic services can be provided to all by all. BUT, to support a lifestyle that is only available on ONE region – and expect the other taxpayers to pay for that lifestyle – heck -talk about screwing the taxpayer…That is what we have set up in Canada. That’s unfair. It’s undemocratic too.
If a region doesn’t have the ecological base and the demographic base to support a large population, then it is wrong to artificially prop up the economy by inserting externally funded makework projects – as is done in the Maritimes and Quebec. Allow the regions to develop and self-organize their own economic base, and develop and maintain a population level that is not artificial.
kevinb – very nice comparison between the literate and oral cultures. I’m not a fan of McLuhan; can’t stand him, actually, but the oral/literate theme was studied long before McLuhan (Walter Ong).
Yes, and no. In some oral cultures, the oral text is open to variation and change because it depends on the ‘singer of tales’ for its varied interpretation. In other oral cultures – especially when the text becomes sealed as ‘religious dogma’ – then it is almost impossible to change the text. In some literate cultures, the text is also impossible to change.
But I don’t think that the problem is merely the dependency on maintaining an oral ideology. I think the problem is political authority. Who has the authority to define and control the wealth of the economy? All the people? Or just one small tribe? The refusal to move to a socioeconomic and political mode that enriched and empowered all the people of the country, is, I think, the source of Islamic fascism.

Quebecers can’t comprehend even if they know about their $120 billion in provincial debt. Debt which is de facto a deferred tax on future generations. As soon a young mobile educated people in Quebec figure that out they’ll leave, why wait around and pay enormous taxes for previous generations’ greed and stupidity.
This also leads into Flaherty’s call for “net” fiscal debt of zero by 2020. The incompetent MSM can’t get their utopian minds around this but what it will do is flush out all the debt of the 3 levels of government. That’s’ bad news for those who think the Chrétien /Martin Liberals saved us fiscally. What it did was hide the items at the Provincial levels and at the municipalities. Toronto is now running a $200 million deficit. Approximately $ 6 billion a year leaves the Toronto taxpayers pocket and does not come back to the City. Where does it go? As soon as Torortonians figure that out, no more defaulting to Liberals at the Ballot box.
BTW there is good news with Flaherty’s “net zero” campaign ; it will show Canada’s assets in pension funds are in relatively good shape compared to socialist Europe ( read Mark Steyn for those demographics) and also compared to aging populations like Japan. This will be a good advertisement for Canada to be a good place to invest . . . once we get the “equalization” regional welfare addiction dealt with.
Overall, I’m optimistic as long as we de-centralize into what makes sense ecologically and regionally and historically and culturally. For example we should have very different CO2 targets for the ecology of hydro in Quebec versus Alberta’s fossil fuels .
It’s interesting what is going on with Dion and the Liberals.
I think the Liberal Backroom Boys are faced with a dilemma – unexpected. No-one expected Dion to win – and his win was engineered by himself and Kennedy. Not by the Liberal Boys.
But, there are problems. Dion can barely speak English, the language of over 80% of our country. Only Canadians could be made to feel that it is ‘bigoted’ to reject someone who cannot speak their language – but – his English is so bad, that enough Canadians might, just might, get up the backbone to reject him.
His French citizenship is a problem, and his attempt to turn that reality into irrelevance by painting himself as a victim of people who reject multiculturalism, and further, into a victim of people who want him to reject his mother – was manipulative but not that ineffective.
And, he’s barely known outside of Quebec.
The answer, I think, via the BackRoom Boys, has been to submerge Dion within a Team – who are known to Canadians and who, heh heh, speak English. So, Dion is talking about his Dream Team (???) and giving everyone who lost the Liberal nomination, some key role in, not the government, but the election campaign.
Interesting. This team is not part of the government but the election campaign. They are there for the upfront Images and Propaganda. The BackRoom Boys must realize that Dion cannot win the election only ‘as himself’. He has to be submerged within a Group that is presentable and marketable. Because he isn’t.
Part of their problem, might emerge with Dion’s ego – which is large and prickly. He can’t put up with any hint, any whisper that He is not The Boss. He keeps reminding us that he is just that.
And, I wonder what the BackRoom Boys will do with the debates? Can Dion survive an English language debate? Will they try to cancel the debates? Heh.
And so far, we see, as usual, no policies from the Liberals. Part of this problem is that they have been in power so long, they have moved out of making or thinking about policies; their only focus was on that Power. And, their tactics were not to provide policies, but to bribe and manipulate their way to power. Effectively, they are doing the exact same thing now – they are having to repaint Dion by merging him with a group of which he is not a member. He is NOT an anglophone – and merging him with such a group – well, that’s interesting.
It’s also interesting to see that they are having to redefine the nature of leadership. Rather than its being located within one individual (Chretien, Martin, Harper), it’s being located within a Team. The Dream Team. Again, the problem is Dion’s ego. And, the fact that neither the delegates nor the electorate voted for this Dream Team.

I think, nomdenet, that it is vital to educate the Canadian public who still assume that Chretien and Martin ‘managed the debt’ and ‘balanced the budget’. We don’t realize that they balanced the budget by, as you say, sloughing off responsibilities on to the taxpayer’s municipal and provincial taxes.
Toronto is massively in debt and yet, 6 billion a year of Toronto taxes goes out to Ottawa. To pay for what – Quebec’s socialist lifestyle?
As you say, most Quebecers don’t realize this as well; they’ve been brainwashed to believe that the only reason they need financial input from Ottawa is because they must pay federal taxes. They feel that if they kept all their federal taxes, then, ‘all would be well’. They simply don’t realize that all their provincial and federal tax base, together, don’t fund their chosen high-cost socialist lifestyle. And – why should the taxpayers of Ontario and Alberta fund Quebec’s choices? Why?
And yes- we must acknowledge the different realities of this vast country. Alberta’s CO2 and pollution requirements should be different from Quebec’s.
Back to my musings about How the BackRoom Liberals are Marketing Dion. They are having Others define him on CTV, CBC. Not Dion, but Others who are telling us ‘ Oh, he’s a great guy; he really knows his stuff; he’s really smart; he’s really definite; he’s blah blah”. Why?
Because none of this is self-evident from any interactions with Dion himself? In fact, direct interactions with Dion are rather disastrous.
So, we are being manipulated by propaganda – which is telling us what to think about Dion – telling us that what we ourselves see and hear from Dion himself- must be rejected. Because, these others, speaking in clear English – are the ones to inform us of What He’s Really Like.
They first tell us that they know him; have known him for years. And..then..comes all the praise and glowing accolades. They can’t let us find that out from Dion himself. Because it isn’t there.
Fascinating to see how one can colour code and paint a fake portrait of someone; how one can take clay and make a puppet – and tell us that this puppet is the reality.

To be technically correct, much of the school day is spent memorizing the Koran phonetically. As Robert Spencer writes, the Koran is written in an ancient form of Arabic. Just back from Christmas shopping and surprise: I went into Chapters, in Lethbridge, AB, and 3 feet from the door, on a table, in plain sight, Mark Steyn’s book, America Alone. I had to look for Godless, by Anne Coulter, but they had it, in hard cover. It was on the floor, mixed in with several other books. A clerk found it for me, and put seveal copies on the shelf, beside the other Coulter books. Because of that, I purchased gift certificates for all 11 grandchildren. They are easier to mail than pkgs. One stop shopping, and not a dollar on a credit card.
