The fundamental problem with the left is that all movements are driven by two cognitions: the Vision and the Grievance. The Vision is a future ideal scenario (for conservatives, this is full democracy, an unimpeded economy, and opportunity for all; for Islamists, it is the society as it was with Mohammed). The Grievance is a present-time, frustrating impediment to The Vision (For conservatives, this might be the Georgian 17 yr old boy and 15 yr old girl who enjoyed oral sex, but he got 10 yrs. For Islamists, it might be the recent Dubai Film festival, with Muslim women wearing beautiful, revealing dresses). This Vision-Grievance template works for every movement from neo-nazis to boy scouts. The catastrophe for the left has been the death of their Vision, the socialist paradise. They still have many grievances (Big Corporations, economic inequities, inadequate welfare, etc), but without the Vision, they are defensive and hostile. The Cindy Sheehans, NDP, etc., are angry because their life-long Vision is dead. Socialism failed, wherever it was implemented. The moral turpitude, the wobbly high-grounding, the aimless reasoning, the constant whining, betray the permanent lack of direction, the frustrated malaise of a dying political philosophy.

– By comparison, most others are immature
But most importantly, sda fills a pent-up demand that has been boiling for decades. Millions of Canadians have been starved for years. The MSM has been blatant in their doctoring of the news for decades with bias, slant, selective repetition, selective omission, political propaganda. And the silent Majority could do nothing about it. Until now.

personal independence and self reliance doesnt happen in an atmosphere of entitlement and government nannyism. we dont need great monolithic social programs with all the waste, duplication, heavy handedness and corruption. government needs to get back to exclusively those things which it is best at, defense, road maintenance, water supply and sewer treatment, product safety standards and building codes. things which themselves are at a great societal scale. NOT day care for instance which is very very personal. and even if it is a government offering it should be OPTIONAL.

Because I can always depend on a number of links to stories that are relevant to the underlying currents driving the *systems* that effect our world today. And, instead of a lot of verbose analysis of said information, SDA usually just supplies a short, succinct comment that puts it into proper perspective. Very close to a “we report, you decide” presentation… 😉
