Having been in some really rough situations in my younger days I can assure you that people of character and strength tend to smile and joke a lot when under stress in a really bad situation with no way out. If that “official of the World Wide Fund for Nature” was really interested in stress among the poor he should see the ones who have crippling dental pain and can’t afford a dentist, or the ones taking apart ruined buildings by hand to recover rebar rods to sell as scrap. I could go on, but the stink of a hidden population reduction agenda makes it pointless.

When I was a boy in the 1960’s, I lived in Don Mills, a Toronto suburb. By Christmas, there were two outdoor rinks up in the park, and a couple of dads would get out there every night and flood them. The rinks would stay frozen until mid-March.
This simply isn’t possible now; it’s too warm in Don Mills to get an outdoor rink to stay skateable for more than two or three weeks in Jan-Feb. And it’s been that way since at least the late 80’s.
So congrats to the CBC for predicting the future occurrence of something that happened nearly 20 years ago. That’s what I call foresight.

Sadly, the left is no longer an intellectual or scientific or economic pursuit (if it ever was), it has become more like a religious conviction. Now…for most of the last 100 years, we have had no direct or indirect means of measuring temperature on Mars. Educated guesses, yes. Scientific theories, yes. Direct and indirect measurements, no.
Viking 1 and Viking 2 landed in 1976. Data from Viking 2 stopped communicating in 1980, Viking 1 in 1982. There was nothing until pathfinder landed in 1996.
So, how does 16 years of direct temperature measurement equate to “climate on Mars has been heating up for approximately 100 years”? Even if one adds in indirect methods using infrared sensors, it still add up to significantly less than 100 years (unless the word Approx equates to +-50 years).
How does less than 50 years of temperature readings equate to “Mars has been heating up for approximately 100 years”? Is it Crichton claiming this, or is it you claiming this? Either way, it looks like some one is pulling numbers out out thin air.
And even if the increased solar output hypothesis is true, we are still exacerbating the problem by throwing greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Higher solar ouput + more Greenhouse gasses holding it in = warmer atmosphere and all the predictions people on this thread seem intent on denigrating.

the referance was to the retreating ice pushes on Mars. every year as the southern icecap advances it leaves a mark. if it goes forward more than the previous year it erases the mark. then it retreats as the summer season comes. there are about 50 ice push ridgemarks on the ground around the southern ice cap. mars year is about 2 year so that is about 100 years of warming as the ice has not pushed over and erased the marks.
I dont need a thermometer here in Canada to tell me the temperature was colder 10000 years ago. Im surrounded here on the prairies by glacial remnants. these remmnants of the 5000 feet of ice here are way more telling than 100 years of temperature measurements started by the CPR with a net change of 1 degree and a standard deviation of plus minus 1 degree and a data spread of 80 degrees on one point.
the southern icecap on the earth has been getting larger too. the global warming boys never say that, but the evidence is there for those that want to observe. Ice only pushes outwards when its compressed down. If large glaciers calve off ( the correct term) its because the load increased in the middle of the continent and you have plastic flow. a glacier breaking off into the water and floating away will not raise the sealevel anymore than a melting icecube makes more drink. archimedes discovered the bouyancy/displacement principle , the ecolooneys forgot it.

As for cal2…why is it people why say we should “see the big picture” inevitably never actually see it. Human’s have been burning trees for a long time now, and are now burning huge swaths of trees in the Tropics. On top of that we’re burning large amounts of coal, oil and natural gas…putting Carbon into the atmosphere that has not been there for millions of years. More CO2 plus less trees soaking it up equals an imbalance from what we’re used to. More CO2 means more energy being held in the atmosphere. More energy (in the form of heat) causes other effects, from increased precip because more water is being evaporated to changed weather pattern.
